Dazmondo77 reacted to EmT in Drag and drop to place pics from finder, holding down alt not working
Thanks @Dazmondo77
I've passed this along to the devs for investigation.

Dazmondo77 reacted to R C-R in Vector/pattern fill
I just wonder if the developer of VS gets it. It is one thing to load up an app with a zillion useful features, but quite another to do that while keeping the UI intuitive & user friendly enough to make it worth investing a lot of time in learning how to use all that stuff.
The Affinity apps are far from perfect but way better than VS in that respect.

Dazmondo77 reacted to walt.farrell in Greyscale and no FX view mode options added
Perhaps work in Publisher, which gives you very quick access to many Photo functions via StudioLink?

True, but:
If you have Photo, you don't need the Pixel Persona from Designer. While working on your design, you probably don't need the Export Persona very often. That usually (at least for me) comes in more toward the end of the work. -
Dazmondo77 reacted to Bryan Rieger in Unexpected Feature: Vectorize a Bitmap Image Directly in Publisher
I think this thread perfectly illustrates how one person's bug is another person's feature. Personally, I cringe every time I have to use the text wrap alpha feature in Publisher as I always end up having to go and delete 99% of the nodes and then redraw the shape (incl. curves) with a more reasonable node count which then allows me to tweak the shape to get the wrapping to work better. I'm always amazed at @loukash's ability to find endless (and ingenious) workarounds in the Affinity suite.
Hopefully we see improvements to both auto-trace tool and node/geometry clean-up tools in the not-too-distant future. 🤞

I find Affinity really good for this kind of thing, as anything can be a mask (see screen grab example) go if you make a mask group (or multi mask as I call em) you can add multiple layers of whatever you want that add to the mask

Dazmondo77 reacted to Roger Schaerer in More then 2 facing pages
Im an Architect and I have to layout several A0 Plansheets side by side. In InDesign i could place more then two pages side by side as facing pages.
Chat GPT suggested a workaround with making one big Page of the size of 3 A0 Sheets and export not a page but the chosen selection of the Page. That works, but is very inconvinient. Would be great if you can bring that in the next update.
The Screenshot shows 6 A0 Sheets on 2 oversize Pages which should be published for Printing to 6 A0 Pages...

Dazmondo77 reacted to _Th in 2.1 Offer? nope, still not interested...
Hmm. Similar chops here, but no longer with a Fortune 500 company. (And quite happy about that!) The Affinity suite functions very differently than the Adobe suite, though there are obvious similarities. When anyone who's accustomed to Adobe tries Affinity software, the differences are clear hurdles to productivity. Admittedly, some of the differences aren't completely logical, certainly not at first. However, the fact that there are many professional creatives making their living with Affinity software, deeming it unusable is an obvious overstatement.
It seems that many detractors ignore that Affinity does not claim parity with Adobe, or any other, software. The clear attraction to Affinity—and likely why many stick around vs. just leaving and not commenting regularly about Affinity's shortcomings—is that it's a company determined to deliver a viable alternative to the software rental model that is consuming the market via Adobe and others.
Most everyone here detests, with a passion, the idea of renting software. It's on par with renting a house for thirty years vs. buying. At the end, you've got nothing. Nothing current, nothing outdated ... nothing. This is why (most of us) fervently support this little company and its software.
Are there issues yet to be overcome? Undoubtedly. Are there UI/UX choices that are frustrating? Clearly. But is the software functional, usable? Absolutely. If it weren't, Serif wouldn't exist. That said, the progress lately has been very encouraging. Not perfect, just encouraging.
And encouraging is what I intend to be while I'm here. Developing software that challenges the 800 pound gorilla and their endless treasure chest is hard enough without me bashing the team at every turn. If I ever get to the point where I find something better for my needs, that's it, I'm out of here. But that hasn't happened yet, and as long as that remains true, I'll praise every positive thing I can, and offer only constructive and hopefully helpful critiques along the way.
Cheers.

Dazmondo77 reacted to Dr Ian in Page spread limitations
well, I'm having the same issue. I want to do a 6 page concertina fold x A6 spread, and I want the level of typographic precision that I get in publisher.
a lot of my work is on multi page spreads. I'd love to leave InDesign behind, but it's a bit of a deal breaker that publisher doesn't seem to do this.

Hi Patrick
I’m not sure I follow you as you said you envisaged adding tri-fold, Quad- fold and Z-Fold etc and you add ( I.e menu). I assume you mean then that you intend to add a few more presets (templates) to the existing drop down menu when choosing new. That’s not at all going to help creatives who like to decide on the the layout dimensional process. It would appear that Serif are, at least for the time being, going to concentrate on no more than bog standard design work. What you have illustrated if I have read you post correctly is a standard gate fold. I have said that creatives need freedom of expression when designing and that means being able to choose the layout to suit there vision. InDesign provides this and has done for some while.
Why would any designer push to one side an established piece of software which has given them flexibility and has worked well for them for some years suddenly choose a new software which takes them back in time and restricts their creativity. From your post Patrick it comes across that Serif does not recognise or even accept that there is a need to expand the page layout tab I.e being able to shuffle pages and choose different dimensions etc (see post by Mark Oehlschlager and the illustration).
In my time as a designer, I have worked on brochures, leaflets, exhibition stands, building wraps, vehicle graphics, packaging, In store displays and merchandising. I believe I am qualified to raise this issue as a genuine concern and can only hope that Serif looks again at its approach to page layout as there are a number of other posts here echoing the same thing and I’m sure there are others in the design community that will be looking closely at whether Apub is a serious option for them or not going forward into the future. Can you just confirm Patrick, is it just you that sees these posts or are they generally viewed for comment and consideration by more senior staff.
I apologise if my post is a little tiresome as I know you are often all hammered from all sides but the layout tab itself needs looking at sooner rather than later, not expanding the new page layout menu. Fortunately I have CS6 so I don’t have a subscription to worry about so I can carry on with that perfectly well for the time being but I had high hopes for Apub as It is potentially a good program and it is very fast and efficient.

Dazmondo77 got a reaction from LetterBank in Vinyl Cutter integration with Affinity Designer
The vinyl cutters / plotters I've used in the past need to receive vector line information via a PS rip. I've been trying to trick Designer to print Vectors and even CMYK for seven years with no luck - the official Affinity response of "just make a PDF and print via Acrobat" is a total "can't be arsed" cop out

Dazmondo77 reacted to PaoloT in we need backward compatibility
Something to be considered is that sales of Macs have been dropping by some 30-40%. It is very likely that many people purchasing Macs not as a luxury toy, but as a work/hobby machine, are remaining with an older OS for long.

Dazmondo77 reacted to shoeller in Publisher / set more than 2 pages in a row
We use the publisher to lay out final presentations, in this specific case there are 5 DIN A0 boards side by side. The only way up to now is to create a large page with the width of 5x DIN A0 and divide it into 5. When exporting, however, the content must be copied to a single DIN A0 format. In InDesign any number of pages can also be arranged side by side and not just one below the other.
I hope Affinity will soon fix this problem.
For Architects it is necessary to arrange several pages in a row!

Turned out quite well so thought I may as well post it as it was all done in PUB

Yes, it does.
You're right that it doesn't have all the functions of Photo or Designer, but for many purposes it's a great environment.
