Dazmondo77 reacted to Patrick Connor in Envelope warping, object-distort, perspective tool or fisheye tool?
I see why this could be thought, but there is no shared code, no shared tools, no shared architecture, so it all needs writing from first principles. The team are some of the same people but it needs doing from scratch in a way that fits with the new architecture while maintaining draw speed, and with a view to all the exported vector formats.

Dazmondo77 got a reaction from Robert Wahl in Vector Omega Watch illustration
A lady across the road asked me to help her produce an omega watch face which is to be printed onto edible paper for a birthday cake, and seeing as I have no work on, I thought I'd have a go at illustrating one from scratch so I can add it to my online portfolio http://www.bingercreative.co.uk , Im pretty happy with how it's turned out so thought I'd post it

Dazmondo77 got a reaction from Markio in Is Affinity Designer even developed anymore?
Looks like an essential purchase to plug the gaps til Designer catches up - only thing is the more you use it the more you may want to just switch to VS even though the interface is not a patch one Designer - it's got all the basics, it even has a printable slug area and prints CMYK to postscript printers - damn - I'd even say theres too many features - I just wish I didn't have to buy it - if the the Designer roadmap had have moved at a fairly reasonable pace we'd not be having to look elsewhere - that's £85 that I'd prefer to give to Serif

Dazmondo77 got a reaction from Boldlinedesign in Envelope warping, object-distort, perspective tool or fisheye tool?
I'm now using VectorStyler as a kind of plug-in to cover vector distortions and a few other things missing from Designer - Tried doing a job in Big Sur (after OpenCoreing my 2009 Mac Pro) and Affinity and VS work great together, once the affinity clipboard gets fixed, it will be a really productive (non-Adobe) workaround, until we get the real deal in Affinity - also used Packzview to view colour separations, which works great in Big Sur (always bombs in Mojave).... Almost feeling positive

Dazmondo77 reacted to uneMule in AP, best way to convert from rgb to cmyk?

Hello everyone,
The debate cmjn rvb is old.
There may be a reason that tends towards rvb, it is to have a homogeneity of blacks in the images. The conversion is done at the end and all images undergo the same treatment in the stream (application of profiles, anyway).
That said, and often, clients/persons have very precise demands in terms of color reproduction and it is then essential to work very early in cmjn (in fact from the start). And, indeed, many colors are not reproducible in cmjn (oranges, pastels, saturated colors...) and the conversion rvb/cmjn can be... difficult.
Today, on professional streams, we have device link profiles that ensure a better consistency between rvb and cmjn.
But beyond all that, what is very important is also the support on which you will print, which will have its own dynamics and which is to be taken into account, in particular for the density of color.
In fact the parameters are important and the answer can not be closed.
ECI profiles provide a good answer.
ECI rvb V2 as input.
And ECI iso coated V2 and iso coated V2 300 which limits the inking to 300 %. Fogra 39 also works. They are in the standard 12647.

No one in this thread knows what they are talking about. If the project is intended for professional printing you should make everything CMYK from the start so you can see the representation as you work. Don't wait to the end export stage unless you like unexpected surprises.

Dazmondo77 reacted to ThirtyFiveThousand in Envelope warping, object-distort, perspective tool or fisheye tool?
Fine. More metaphorical clarification....
As it stands, Affinity Designer is the Margarita in the unsalted glass, the load of clothes from the dryer without the Febreeze, the video game boss fight to which you’ve brought the +9 Sword (to be fair, there are those of us who would take on the boss using the +2 Dagger just to make a point! *pun*). Designer stands poised to be a serious challenger to the Adobe empire, even more so with the release of the iOS version, when (if) that happens. All it would take, in my opinion, would be the fulfillment of the four year old promise that would allow us to shape text instead of having to carve closed shapes by hand. For us faithful few who pray everyday to be able to reproduce the Lucasfilm Logo without taking an extra 3 hours to do so, an ‘envelope distortion’ function would be the answer to those prayers. The ability to curve, arch, bend, or wave text, or even converted text shapes, instead of simply handing in text-on-a-curve to unimpressed clients and co-workers, would make at least one of us out here ecstatic enough to hand over cash or PayPal transactions (or iOS App Store 5-star reviews *HINT*) for granting us the ability. Until then, Affinity Designer will continue to be reviewed by everyone I’ve found on YouTube as the application that is ALMOST good enough to be the greatest.

Dazmondo77 reacted to MEB in Envelope warping, object-distort, perspective tool or fisheye tool?
Hi @TomFulery,
They are already on our roadmap.
We are aware there's still some basic features missing but Affinity Designer is still also very recent. It's not possible to implement everything at once. Please bear with us while we work on it.

Dazmondo77 reacted to Poptoogi in Envelope warping, object-distort, perspective tool or fisheye tool?
I was just about to post this suggestion as well about the envelope warp and the warp filters in general. I use these features a lot with vector artwork. I see this post was posted well over a year ago though so I'm wondering if there are plans for any vector warping tools in Affinity Designer. I could only find the mesh warp tool for rasterdized images in Affinity Photo. While it's a nice tool, it is really limited and doesn't really help with vector designing. Warping with text in particular is a HUGE part of designing, not just a mesh warps but preset warps like archs and bulging are extremley important as well so I'm wondering if you guys/gals at Serif are working on anything like that!

Hi Poptoogi,
There's a Mesh warp/distort tool in Designer's roadmap, it just wasn't implemented yet (the roadmap covers all 1.x versions).
It will come in a future update/version.

Cool! I would have to say, I've been using AD for awhile now and I have to say than any little things I miss from Illustrator are minor. There are work arounds to completing those tasks, but not having the ability to warp vector images is hands down THE BIGGEST shortcoming I've come across when working with Affinity designer. I'm happy this is in the Designer's roadmap and I'm hoping that it is as versatile as Illustrators capabilities. I'm always trying to upsell AD and AP to other people but the missing function of warp tools in particular, is a sore spot that is hard to defend. Especially since they have been a part of Illustrator for over 5 years or so. I think since CS5!
I know, I know, I'm sure you guys hate it when some random forum person starts lecturing or making suggestions when we don't know how hard you're working on the programs and how much time and talent it takes to make it happen! Believe me, I understand. I'm just sick of Adobe and I want so badly for another company to succeed where they fail and you guys are the ones to do it. If I come across as less than appreciative I assure you I'm praising you guys every day! I just want AD to be the best it can! AD 4 Life! :)

I know, I'm harping on this warping thing guys but I'm really just asking questions. Again, I know it's extremely hard work getting all the functions everybody is asking for so I'm very sorry if it seems as if I'm nagging. I really just had a couple of questions and thought it would be better to just make a video to explain. No worries though, I was just working on something and thought of the questions.

Thats fair enough Walt - It would be great if it comes to version 1, but another 3 months and it will be seven years since release, and my optimism has waned. just glad that VectorStyler is around (although not ideal and buggy at times), now I can hold off with the rants for a while👍

Dazmondo77 got a reaction from Michel Saguiar in Distort Shape Perséctive
This was one of the abilities you just expect when firing up Designer for the first time, and lots of users have voiced this over the years. it was a feature planned within the 1 version cycle, but may hopefully be included in version 2?
VectorStyler is a worthy purchase just for this feature alone (I use it a lot) and really quick and fluent, even with complex vector distortions that Illustrator would struggle with - it copy and pastes great back and fourth between Affinity, although the Affinity clipboard has a recent bug where it messes up your colours when pasting in any other (non Affinity) app - once this is fixed and back to normal (hopefully before 1.10 release) it works flawlessly

We are still within version 1, and we have no idea when version 2 is coming. It could still be several years off, as we now know the next release after 1.9.2 (or 1.9.3) should be 1.10.0.

The lack of these resources end up disrupting our daily lives as a designer. And with that it is necessary to install another application to make up for the lack of resources. I really think it's past time for these features to be added to Affinity.
Unfortunately I will have to appeal to inkscape or another.
Thanks for the personal support!

Dazmondo77 reacted to tom d in Pdf bleed problem.
I have sorted it. If you're interested, I had a vignette that I applied with af photo. It had to be rasterised with the layers it was affecting. Now the bleed is included.
It may be an idea for serif to have af photo live filters include the bleed that designer files may have. Or have the live filters in af designer

Dazmondo77 reacted to thomaso in Overprinting black for text - Not working
How do you mean this? In the 2 screenshots above both PDF are exported with "U.S.WebCoated" and both have it selected as simulation profile in Acrobat. While the upper PDF, exported with preset for print, does not show overprint for black text (in what cases has black text a profile, in what not?) the PDF below, exported as PDF/X-4 does show overprint for the same items (black text).
So I don't quite understand whether you want to point out an issue of Acrobat or an issue of Affinity appearing in Acrobat or no issue but a matter of settings when viewing the PDF in Acrobat. Please, can you try to explain once more? … (or maybe someone else who understood Gabe's hints?)

Should work in Consolidated mode too. The active document (or selected tab) has its file name in the window's frame. Plus File > Reveal in Finder shows that file.

I agree with this. I am of the opinion that an app should respect the conventions of the OS when it is possible and reasonable. This is one feature of macOS that I occasionally try to use in Affinity apps only to find it does not work.

It would be a feature similar to how Word and most other apps do it (see attached image).
