Dazmondo77 reacted to loukash in [Real] Vector Brush / for Paint in Vector!
If only there were a 30-days fully functional trial version where one could try if the product really fulfills one's need before buying, huh?
Oh!
Wait!

Wonders happen!
I must have been blind but now I can see!

Hi,
I'd like to write this suggestion for the upcoming features for Affinity Designer.
What I miss for since I started in Affinity in 2018, is the ability to Paint and use the Vector Brushes as Real vector,
Or, a tool to Paint in Vector (Like Blob Brush from Illustrator) without the need to draw a shape with the pencil / pen tool.
as an Example, I'm making many illustrations that need a flat painting style,
and if we could make Paint in Vector and also Erase like we do in Raster, it would be awesome.

Dazmondo77 reacted to Ash in Ability to lock insertion target
Hi All,
The latest build (2.4.0.2240) which should be available shortly on auto update does now include the ability to lock "insert inside" in addition to the other insertion targets. We have also added the ability for you to use long press on iPad to lock insertion targets...
Other fixes in this build are listed in Patrick's post here.
Thanks,
Ash

Thanks Affinity Team to make this possible. I hope that in the future, more user suggestions that can enhance Affinity's capabilities will be realized.

I've just tested it and it works great ! Really making a huge change when clipping multiple images into multiple shapes, this is now real smooth.
Thanks for listening to user feedback and the great work done in each release

Dazmondo77 reacted to Hangman in Layer states added to Designer and Publisher plus changes to functionality
Three Additional Feature Requests
The option to duplicate Queries... Quite often you may have an almost identical set of Query criteria where you only need to change one or two settings so rather than recreate from scratch each time it would be great to be able to duplicate an existing Query, rename it and just change the relevant setting/s...
The ability to reorder Queries similarly to reordering Asset categories in the Assets Panel via drag and drop...
The ability to select multiple Queries together using Shift or Cmd (Ctrl) Click so they can be deleted (or dragged) to a new location in the stack... Currently, Queries can only be deleted one at a time... -

Is there a need for both the show and hide icons, would one togglable icon not suffice in the same way it does for Password Protection in the PDF Export settings to either show or hide the password? This would make it much easier to determine the state of any Query especially as currently there is no visual feedback in the States Panel to indicate when a Query is shown or hidden (other than looking at the canvas itself)...
Perhaps white icons in dark mode and dark grey in light move for consistency and simple ease of viewing...
A definite need, again as mentioned earlier in the thread, to be able to rename Queries...

Need some practice, but a useful addition. Great.

Apps: All
Platforms: Windows, macOS and iPad
While transforming any object with the move tool (whether resizing, rotating, skewing or moving) you can now hold space to temporarily toggle Lock Children on or off (to achieve the opposite behaviour of what you currently have set in the context toolbar).

A very handy and clever solution to reach a checkbox that sometimes is hidden on the far right end of the toolbar. Even without touching this checkbox. Thanks!

Oh, great! I was looking forward to "Lock Children" command appearing in the menu, so I could assign a hotkey to it, but you did even much better!!! THANKS!

If you just start the drag & then hold down the spacebar, it works fine, & you can even toggle between the two behaviors in real time by releasing & repressing it.

Dazmondo77 reacted to rparmar in Version 2. Still no spread management ?
I am teaching this subject in 40 minutes, so came here to see if Publisher 2 had finally implemented multi-page spreads. This is one of the most essential features, along with global layers and foot/end note support. I guess we got one out of three?

Dazmondo77 reacted to loukash in Strange PDF transparency effect with PDFs created by v2.2.1
At first I was rejected with "This is an invalid website. The website URL and e-mail address should be from an existing labels/packaging company."
22 months later I tried again, and all of a sudden my puny self was considered "worthy". Halleluja praise the Gawdz of Packz!

Dazmondo77 got a reaction from spinko in Layout with more than 2 spreads
This as been a requested feature going back to the publisher betas.
This was number one on my wish list for Pub2 as makes doing book jackets, multifold leaflets, capacity brochures even large format display boards a total breeze

Dazmondo77 reacted to Luca H in Multi-Page Tables
Hello everyone,
today I created a table that is longer than my layout and would span over several pages.
So I had to split it.
It is simply very inconvenient to have to split the table, especially if you insert or edit rows later and want to re-sort the table.
Therefore here's my +1 for multi-page tables.

Dazmondo77 reacted to Ash in Move data entry improvements
Actually wonder if this should in fact be a transform panel thing and that if you have "transform objects separately" checked and type in an absolute value into the transform panel (e.g H=100px) then all the objects in your selection should adopt that height rather than it working proportionally based on the key object size?
Also we'll get round to adding a "Size to Same" function at some point!

Dazmondo77 reacted to loukash in I need a Lightroom replacement, what are you guys using?
Hehe, my dad was a hoarder, both physically as well as digitally. It took me 4 weeks – amidst the 2020 lockdown abroad where he used to live, so I had to do everything almost alone because I barely knew anyone there – to find all the things I wanted to keep and to clean up his flat.
And to stay on topic:
NeoFinder was/is an immense help here. My dad hoarded about 60 or so external and internal hard drives, totaling almost 100 TB worth of data. So as the first step, while I was still there in his place, I cataloged them all with NeoFinder to get an overview and the ability to search for anything needed. Those NeoFinder catalogs alone are 10 GB in total. He had neither a backup strategy nor any cataloging tools, although I've told him a few times to do so. So his drives are a total mess, and his "catalogs" were plain RTF documents. Duh. It's still a work in progress, sorting it out and everything. He was a passionate photographer and also did some digital art, so there's stuff worth to keep, somewhere. But like in his "physical" life there are piles and piles of digital junk all over.
Additionally, he was a "Windows devotee" and so his drives are all in the NTFS format that is read-only on Mac. So to be able to actually work with them in a reliable MacOS environment, first I have to copy each to a HFS+ drive which alone can take hours.
And yes, there is a lot of benefit in having separate catalogs within the Neofinder library, be it drives, servers, CDRs, DVDRs, local or remote folders:
you can easily limit search or smart folders to specific catalogs if you accidentally mess up a catalog by some means (can happen), all other catalogs are unaffected And back to your previous question:
Some of my NeoFinder catalogs are over 1GB each like those of my dad's drives where I also cataloged image thumbnails, other catalogs are just a few KB like those of my old backup CDRs or even *gasp* my antique floppy and Zip discs. All catalogs together are now over 15GB. I definitely wouldn't want it to be a monolithic monster file.

Warp Group > Mesh would be the best way to go here as you've mentioned. 🙂
Hopefully we'll see simplify paths/curves added in a future update (No news to share though, sorry!).

Dazmondo77 reacted to Hangman in Overprint missing features @ Affinity Design
Hi @MarioMello,
You can set up any colour with Overprint, it doesn't need to be a Spot Colour... I agree that it would be a really great addition to have an Overprint Preview as part of the Affinity Suite...
-
Dazmondo77 reacted to woefi in Overprint missing features @ Affinity Design
Absolutely!
Normally I would have completely ignored these overprinting colours and would have instead requested adding the missing feature "set object-based overprinting to fill or outline" but... I see the long list of things I want to be added to the Affinity apps (just for feature parity with Adobe CS5 in terms of print production) and then I restrain myself and accept that it will take them a little bit more time to get there...
(I am very confident, though, as the Affinity team is at least very transparent what they are currently doing.)
