I appreciate all the things Affinity is adding in to Designer/Photo/Publisher - I love that it's not just like other vector apps - things are well thought out, efficient and streamlined.
Loving the new 1.9 features so far.
I have no issue with a mesh fill tool/feature, but I agree with the others, it's a lower priority to me than other vital features that would allow me to switch fully to Affinity full time.

Everyone has their own biased list of "most important"  features - but there seems to be a strong consensus that we need vector-based distortion tools for objects and text, pure 100% vector brushes, cleaner boolean operations - (each time I add several expanded overlapped strokes together it leaves a mess of unattached nodes, sometimes the pieces i am adding together disappear entirely)
Maybe less important to others but certainly vital to me - a vector eraser tool, smooth tool and blob brush equivalent (vector work can be more "artistic" this way) and a more professional print setup

Down the line adding a 3D effect or the mesh fill tool/feature once the most universally needed tools are added that allow us to let go of Adobe and Corel and other fully.

    Just my thoughts

Boldlinedesign --- you nailed it as far as I'm concerned - all the above would give us the bare basics to complete work solely using Affinity - vector-based distortion tools would also be my most needed "NEED" - Mesh fill would be a nice addition for version 2 or 3 as there are really easy workarounds to achieve the same result now - simplify path tool would also be handy

  2. Just finishing up a trifold dl leaflet and noticed a screen redraw problem when zooming in and out, which kind of makes it really hard to make text changes as all you can see when zoomed in is either a load of pixels or blurred text characters. see attached screen clip:

I have noticed that if I switch off the montage on the left in the grab, that the screen redraw seems to improve - is this a known issue?

Is it possible build press-ready documents in the Affinity Suite apps where one can control the inks used (CMYK and spot inks), and where one can both proof the color separation, and be able to output black & white color separation files complete with registration and printer's marks?

    Yes please -

Only current options is ADOBE or Callas pdftoolbox(£500) - I use acrobat pro 9 which is ten years old and 32 bit but it still does the job to preview separations and check PDF compliance and all the stuff you NEEEED to check before sending off to your print service provider - you can also output proper vector CMYK proofs from Acrobat (and acrobat reader) which is something you can't do in Affinity apps (WHAT!) this really needs to change, five years is a long time to wait for basics

Speaking of sticky settings, one aspect that I hope the new Studio Presets will eventually address is saving your sticky settings along with the rest of the workspace.

Great Idea - must include the ability to tick 'scale with object' for strokes and FX which would save loads of bother when the vast majority of your works needs to be scalable

Ah yes. Now I remember, illustrator required it at some point when it stagnated and MacOS kept moving forward. Yes let’s not go down that route haha.

Like many other graphic designers / illustrators, I currently have no choice but to go down that route, I still have Java installed in Mojave as I need to use Illustrator CS5 to do the things that Designer can't yet do (vector distortions, perspective grid, simplify paths etc.) and is a little slow and choppy for 10 year old software but it works and it also enables accurate screen representation of PDF's for passthrough!?!?!

with open after export checked this seems like a reasonable solution since printing with preview works without a hassle

Like Affinity, Preview can't print straight CMYK ?!?!?!?!?!? - Acrobat reader does and it's FREE it also retains Vector information on output rather than Affinity's feeble pre-rasterising - I really hope this changes in the future as it's an essential part of many workflows - just mind boggling that great software aimed at design and print professionals can't print a CMYK file to a CMYK rip or printer without first converting to RGB and rasterising then sending to a RIP to be rasterised and printed in CMYK - resulting in a total botched proof

Sounds like the issue I have logged (was only on PDF X4), if you could upload a few to the folder I'll take a look.

Just uploaded Jon 👍 - the Passthrough test.afpub which I've been testing today, is comprised of 1 page from 4 different PDF's layer up on an A3 sheet. - PDF(for print) works great - all PDF/X formats bomb Publisher as soon as the export screen shows - the only way back is to open a new document which lets me go back to other export formats without bombing

You will still get the interpreted preview in the document in Affinity, we may end up watermarking it or something to make this more obvious, but when re-exported to PDF does it look correct?

Maybe a low rez preview with passthrough watermark would enable the user to export with a bit more confidence - it would also be useful for a backup plan for when the inevitable deadline takes a dive, simply because of PDFs not passing through, so maybe a quick rasterise in place function???

Tried more tests and doesn't work using PDF/X-1a:2003 so tried PDF/X-4 and just bombs but now can't even get that far as as soon as the export screen comes up it bombs so can't even change the settings - tried making new documents and trying existing documents - as soon as I go to export it bombs
