  1. Ace stuff Chris - any idea how we use new links panel - doesn't seem to refer to actual external links - is it supposed to link layers?
  2. Don't forget that in a large document, switching off snapping can speed things up a tad
  3. Export preview panel is great but probably should have a magnify option - mouse zoom shortcut doesn't currently work but magic trackpad works great. Can't find a use for the links panel - what is it for and how does it work? my first thoughts where that it was a way to link items scattered throughout a busy layer stack and have them update in a similar fashion to symbols but giving you the option to make multiple line or colour changes (GREAT although more useful in designer) - at the moment if you click on anything it gives options in the link panel but they don't do anything and if you try to select a few items to link, all the link options disappear : very confusing or am I really that pig thick that I'm missing something ultra intuitive - Have I missed something regarding it being a placeholder for a feature that is yet to be switched on?
  4. Affinity print engine isn't currently upto the job (surely they aim to improve it?) so the solution would be to create a pdf and open in Acrobat reader to print, which will print as expected with all the options you need to centre, + prints vectors and text nice and crisp with proper colour support + it's free - downside: its ADOBE 😖
  5. My goto apps are Intaglio Vectorize (FREE) and Image Vectorizer, although I think both are Mac only - the benefits of Vectorize is the ability to reduce the amount of nodes and once copy pasted into Affinity, you get a unified vector - with Image Vectorizer (small fee from MAS) there's lots of options for halftone screens and whatnot but once copy pasted into Affinity you'll need to group in order to colour up the result.
  6. Like to wish all forum users and serif staff a very MERRY CHRIMBO hope next year brings great things for Affinity
  7. If Adobe would have kept an outright purchase option after cs6 I would have probably never tried Affinity - not all 'pro' users do subscription - that's surely got to be Affinity's main appeal for smaller agencies
  8. Not on iPad but here's quick example of one method that I'd use that could be done on iPad between designer and photo, you'd obviously need take a lot longer for useable results - also demonstrates adding a couple of lens distortions for a basic simulation of glass distortion - hope it helps Screen_Grab_2020-12-21_at_13_33_51.mov
  9. I've just run a couple of tests in the latest pub 1.9 beta and nothing has improved - my conclusion is that the Affinity print engine isn't (currently) compatible with Postscript which is a print industry standard ?!?!?! and my only option is to use Acrobat to print - where does that leave us? If Big Sur and apple silicon is the future, we'll still have to resort to Adobe for accurate print until this problem is fixed see attached scanned print samples below
  10. Heres a very simple way of doing, what I'm guessing, you want to achieve, although for accuracy I'd suggest finding a few reference images of similar objects in a similar position to what you have in mind before going ahead - Screen_Grab_2020-12-21_at_10_41_35.mov
  11. @Claudio Bartolini I'm not getting the white thingy Have you tried a quit and restart of Affinity?
  12. The Style workaround is only if you want a gradient with global colours - if you're happy with just standard gradients you're probably better off with the method in your vid - I always setup jobs with global colours from the offset, I've had a lot of times in the past where this has saved the day back in my InDesign days where global colours are standard and found it a godsend especially if you're designing work that needs to be approved by committee, the chances are you need to mess around with your colour palate a few times before approval and this becomes a couple of clicks to change with globals rather than a full day for say a 100 + page annual report - What would be handy (for anyone who needs globals) is if we could have a way to save global gradients as with 'those two microscopically place squares next to the name' I'm sure you must have tried the right icon to add a gradient to your palate, which does nothing as it currently can't ad global gradients (very frustrating) but at least the style workaround works for this but still no substitute for a proper global gradient palate
  13. I have a set of global colours set as my default but this only works with new documents - just go to burger menu and import as document palate then set as default (I have it default for CMYK) I use a workaround for global gradients = make your gradient with all gradient points taken from your globals palate then go to styles and add style from selection - apply to all you need with that same global gradient and any changes to any root globals contained within the gradient will update as expected, unlike an actual gradient swatch Screen_Grab_2020-12-18_at_17_34_14.mov Process globals.afpalette
  14. Could be a font issue? - have you tried exporting your pdf and going to the embed fonts box and changing to 'Text to curves' ?
  15. Muna - many many users had the same reaction on first firing up Designer on the desktop - I've always viewed it as a standard feature that I've taken for granted since first using Freehand 8 (1998) - the good news was it was originally added to the Designer roadmap around 5 years ago, and the devs must have had some form of vector distortion working since first release, but I'm guessing they won't introduce it in an up and coming Beta until it is awesome - it is very hard to be patient, especially when an important job you are working on needs this, but for the time being we have to find workarounds - we have a few workarounds on the mac and windows but not sure what to recommend iPad - hopefully we won't have too much longer to wait? But it does have a ton of potential to be
  16. Good to hear from you Patrick - does this now mean that we now have the ability to be able to print crisp vectors and CMYK direct from Affinity that are as good as Acrobat?
  17. Hah that's different to my issue - for me the brush size curser was fixed as the standard curser arrow - a restart sorted it for me - other than a restart, I'm out of ideas - Sorry boss
  18. I have 2 macs running Mojave and CS5 better than it ran on El Capitan - started by cloning my main work El Capitan drive to a new SSD then booted into the new clone system and checked everything worked as expected then upgraded to Mojave - the only paid upgrade I needed to make was Carbon Copy Cloner - it even fixed a few issues I'd had since Mavericks always have my old El Capitan SSD to boot into if I have any problems - not had any yet (aprox a year). Regarding the curser not showing as expected - I've seen this a couple of times and for me, quitting and restarting seemed to sort the problem
  19. Sorry to hear your dilemma - should look perfect if you export pdf then print from Acrobat reader but that's just another workaround - really sad that it's just taken for granted that a pro app would be upto the job for this simple task but doesn't currently have the beef - Would be really helpful if Lee D could chip in with a comment on this?
  20. Your settings look correct - are you using a PDF/X variant? I usually leave profile set to document profile, which shouldn't make a difference in your case as you selected the same profile as your document, but you never know - may be worth a try
