I think the splash screen is too detailed with too much cramped into a small frame - looks almost washed out on a high res screen. Remember "Get close, then get even closer! "🙂

The Photo splash screen is spot on.

I agree - Designer splash would look cool 2 meters long in an art gallery but for a splash screen it's just headache fodder - way too busy for my eyes at that size

  2. Just out of curiosity, I wonder if it's possible if you only own Designer, to open a file originally created in Photo that uses the live perspective distortion and have access to the settings -  if so you could always drag the layer to your assets panel and always have access? in theory?

I can't test this as I already have Photo but I've created a photo document with a group that contains a vector square and a live perspective filter (Latest Photo Beta) just wondering if someone who only has Designer could test? although I guess it will have to be latest Designer beta : see attached

  3. The obvious way would be to group all items and grab one of the corner nodes and drag to create perspective - this was one of the first pitfalls I came across with Designer back in 2014, as it's just a standard, basic feature of a pro vector application, at first I thought it was some weird bug, but as it turned out, Designer didn't have that capability -YET- but was planned for a future update - wow - me thinking it may be two or even three years down the line before I can work comfortably ------ keep faith ------- 6 years later - no mention of when we'll get this - the road map was buried years ago - and vector distortions blanked - my faith is on fumes - well that's enough negativity, in the meantime, as firstdefence suggested

You could batch generate 8000 low-res files from the originals and have them linked in Publisher (all in one folder) then when the data merge is done just replace them with the same hi-res images of the same name

In theory sounds like a winner, a bit like the old OPI workflows - just wonder how pub will handle the relinking and output, especially if theres deadlines involved - I'm sure all of us would like to know if it's possible - Very best of luck cidelab

Hey MattP I think you forgot to mention anything in the added features list about the 'segment cutter' spotted by haakoo - this is a great feature (Ctrl+Click path, deletes that part of the path between two nodes) Bye Bye break curve hello delete segment 👍

How about "Phoney Brushes" or "Ersatz Brushes"?

Pretend Vector Brushes - menu name = PV Brushes

Dangerous Vector Brushes - menu name = DV Brushes

Just A Little Bit Arse Over Tit Vector Brushes - menu name = JALBAOT Brushes

A Bit Like Vector But Not Vector Brushes - menu name = ABLVBNV Brushes

Do Not Use These Vector Brushes If You Want To Create Vector Artwork Brushes - menu name = DNUTVBIYWTCVA Brushes (my fav)

Of course we'd have to have a name that reflects true Vector brushes:- Definitely, totally Proper, Completely Safe Vector Brushes - menu name = DTPCSV Brushes

Or even DTP brushes 👍 Definitely, Totally Proper

You used a raster brush on the circle so it gets rasterised on export, but you can make this without any raster element e.g. out of a pie and a circle.

Or using a proper vector brush - yes Affinity vector brushes are very confusing as most are just vector paths with assigned raster PNGs which follow the path - hopefully at some point in the not too distant future we will get "vector brushes" then the other "not vector" brushes could be under something like "path brushes" or something - see screen grab:

  8. I reckon it would be really cool if there was a preference tick box to force globals by default - just imagine how much time could be saved - default globals would also make it less confusing for people aiming to switch from InDesign - having it as a tick box would let people who love the current way colour works in affinity, but for me, I can't imagine a scenario where i'd ever switch it off

  9. Select same tag colour by right clicking on the tag - Nice touch - great work 👍 - = linked layers have arrived - kind of - although a bit confusing, with the addition of Photos linked layers which looks like it would have a similar ability but it just seems to be a pretty poor symbols substitute that's a bit of a pain to use and doesn't even work with groups - can't see me finding a use for it in its current state - its a shame its been granted golden access to place linked icons in the layers panel - hopefully something good will come of it in the end

All we need now with select same (which is ACE by the way) is a document wide ability to use with studiolink in Pub - a bit frustrating that it's currently only page by page

  10. Back in the mid to late 90's we used to use an OPI (Open Prepress Interface) system with Quark 3.3 where we had a sun spark server with all the linked images scanned direct from a Crosfield Magnascan 656 Drum Scanner, Hi-rez images placed in the main folder would auto generate low-rez versions with exactly the same name and size but only 72dpi - on output you just needed to have OPI ticked and it would auto replace with the high-rez - surely theres a modern way of doing this that could take the strain off affinity, as I'm guessing that if publisher does all the lifting in creating low-rez copies, this could have the opposite effect with documents becoming super massive and still pretty sluggish even with linked images.

if you use a pipe wrench for steering.

Shame there's nothing comparable for missing vector distortions and proper vector brushes from within Affinity - I'd be chuffed with 'pipe wrench for steering' until the super, ultra, mega proper steering wheel is added - oh yeah, crop to selection would be fairly handy and like vector distortions and proper vector brushes, I couldn't fathom why we didn't get these basics six years ago

f you select a layer and go to Layer menu > Duplicate Linked you will see the panel after clicking the new icon on the Layer Panel.

Ahhh - just had a mess around with it and not something I'd use - I prefer symbols - looks like it's a very basic symbols-like feature solely for Photo users who don't have access to symbols - be interesting to learn who can make use of it?
