One more addendum to the lack of global layer woes… if you have artwork on a 'global layer' (as described by @MEB above) that spans two art boards, when you go to export said art boards the artwork from the shared layer is omitted. The expected behaviour would be the portion of the artwork that is visible on each art board is included in the export. Sample file attached.
I think the current limitation is anything that is printable or exportable needs to reside within an artboard and your example sits on-top of your layer stack - I think the only way currently would be to duplicate and drag each into the L and R artboard layers - then you could use the tag function as described above to switch off and on (if you had a very busy layer stack)

I don't use beta software (no time, risk of corrupt files, etc) but I'll look to try that workaround once it's out of beta.
I'm finding it really handy in the tests so far 👍

The latest beta includes 'select same tag colour' which is available via select / select same / Tag Colour and also by right clicking the layers panel, so you should be able to tag all your layers you want to switch off altogether, on different artboards, throughout your layer stack. just select one of the layers that has the tag colour you want to switch off and right click and scroll down to select same tag colour and un-tick - hope this works for you? see attached :

I didn't think I'd find a use for the isometric grids in affinity but I recently had this to do and and found it to be the perfect tool for the job. really intuitive, no messing around, just works the way you'd expect - I hope there's an up and coming perspective grid feature in the planning as I'm make tonnes of use out of such a feature, providing it works with vectors

This is one of the biggest holes in the Designer app so far. the need for a warp tool. High on that list are also things like efficient and smooth working boolean operations, blob tool, vector erase tool, blend function, 100% vector brushes, a merge boolean operation like Illustrator has
AYE!

I think a combination of the two above suggestions gives an half decent result :

If it works for you, great - nothing wrong with that, just possibly not what was intended.
Also just possibly what was intended? I love the way StudioLink works, probably my favourite thing about Affinity, in my opinion

This is hardly the only thing you are missing by working that way - no access to the RAW development feature set or the Liquify or Tone Mapping features of Photo, no Export persona, etc.
I don't have a problem with opening photo for RAW development feature set or the Liquify or Tone Mapping - or export persona and whatnot

I do believe that that you believe that that may be the point but I believe I have a pretty smooth workflow although I'm beginning to believe I'm being a very naughty boy for using publisher the wrong way

Select Same / Select Object functionality. I'm happy to consider requests for extra options, so if you have a favourite, just say...
Seeing has tick boxes for Layer FX and Strokes is still unticked by default would it be possible to have an option to select all objects that have layer FX so you can tick the sodding box in one go and save an hour of digging through layers - just spent all day on a vector illustration and realised that I've forgot to tick the majority of objects with layer FX - or is already possible

In the meantime: Edit in Designer (Photo) is still available in Publisher. So, if you have simple, one page, document, you can edit in Designer and then make use of the Export Preview function.
I think I'll still export jpegs from Pub and make do without the preview, it's worked out ok so far - I would have thought if image preview was such a Des/Photo specialised feature it would surely be available first in export persona in Designer and Photo, which I do use, and does justify opening in Designer for all the export options - oh well?!?!?!
As usual my thinking seems to be a bit arse over tit?

Shame I won't be using it, although it would be really handy - why? I use Designer and Photo via Publisher studiolink 95% of the time - I thought this was the whole point of studiolink

Export Preview is a simple pixel based preview for photo/designer documents. It's not designed to be enabled for vector formats or multi-page documents, so will not be added to publisher which is mainly designed for the vector/text mixed format export of PDF. Although Publisher can export pages or selections as pixel formats it is not it's primary purpose/market and this 1.9 feature is appearing in the applications it is most suited to.
Wow - that's a bit disappointing - I'm totally with Walt on this
I only ask as I very rarely open Designer or Photo as I use StudioLink in pub for 95% of the time so normally save elements as jpegs or png's (save selection without background) ----- oh well, it would have been handy in pub - and wouldn't really justify opening in Designer or Photo just for this feature
-
How infuriating - looks like it could be a profile clash - have you tried switching off embed profiles?
-
All seems good - Nice splash screen (unlike Designer vvv busy)
Just wondering if export preview will be available to publisher, now that it's working great?

I'd be willing to pay $50 just for an app that will allow me to proof a repro-ready PDF. Just give me the ability to view each colour channel individually to confirm over printing, knockout, spot colours, colour mode. Add listing image resolution, profiles, dimensions, PDF versions etc and I'd trust ALL repro files coming out of Affinities apps. This wouldn't be something all users would need or want, so make it an optional extra.
I suggested a while ago similar to above, but for it to be a 'proof persona' as all the features you detail are pretty essential for worry free supplying to a print service provider. I would also add the ability to print a proof to postscript printers and retain CMYK and Vectors at least to the quality of Adobe Reader

Yes a few of us have been screaming for vector a distortion/warp tool for years, which is prob no1 on my list of features I use practically everyday (Illustrator CS5 and VectorStyler), but a few other less grand omissions that don't get the spotlight would make a massive improvement to getting work: a simplify path tool plus an option to have those pesky 'scale with object' tick boxes for strokes and FX ticked by default could save hours of backtracking - also some way of forcing a global palette - yes the vector eraser in CSP is ace also the stroke width brush is brilliant
-
just tried uploading again and it worked - hope this helps?

Use VectorStyler until Designer gets it - I was really confused that I couldn't find this capability back in 2014 and was gobsmacked that it was released without such a basic standard feature, but gained some faith when it was added to the roadmap - but 😩

I agree Serif has every right to include or exclude features based on their plans and priorities, but they are also beholden to their customers or else they will fail to exist. Serif risks their product being viewed as an amateur alternative if universally understood expectations for professional software are not met sooner than later.
Everyone feels their tool preferences are "essential" and I know not everyone agrees on what is truly necessary to make Affinity products stand on their own.
I think many would agree with my perspective, that properly functioning boolean operations, true vector brushes and text warp are a few examples of basic necessities for a wide majority of designers.
How can anyone create professional designs if the boolean operations create dirty geometry and parts go missing? How limiting is it that only raster brushes can be unique? Why has text warp been available in Photo but not Designer for years?
I'm excited about the little new features like being able to port your brushes to any installed version of the apps on different devices automatically... that is cool - but it feels like we're getting excited about new fancy rims on a car and ignoring the fact that we've never installed brakes. I'd rather a car with brakes and the other essentials over one that has fancy rims and no brakes.....
Yeah the car looks nice with the new rims, but it can never leave the driveway safely... I'd much rather we get the car drive-able first and then worry about making it look flashy.
I'm using an outdated version of Adobe CS6 Illustrator to do my vector work.... I have to paste anything i do in Designer over to Illustrator to merge vectors so they are not a mess. I rely on Illustrator or Vectorstyler to make blends and make text warps. If I want to fill in sections of negative space in a design, I have to also paste it in illustrator to do a live fill or use a blob tool or use the merge tool with a fill behind the negative space to cookie-cutter it. I care WAY more about basic function than I do about the bells and whistles.I agree

Envelope/mesh distortion, or any kind of free distortion, of vector objects. You can find threads about this being in the roadmap since 2016 but still no word about implementation from dev. Funny thing; they use a distorted text in the promo for 1.8:
It was probably in from the start, but might need 6 years of work to get it to play nice - why would you release a pro vector app that can't do vector distortions, as it's been a taken for granted standard requirement for 25 + years - the featured distorted artwork was probably created in an early, unstable, dev version or maybe Drawplus? we can only guess as this is a taboo subject with affinity staff by the look of it. if I've got it all wrong I'm sure we'll get some kind of staff response? 🤐
