This is a file I downloaded from freepik...at first glance it looks like a png file but on looking again it has the file extention of jpg! But this is the kind of file I am talking about...see attached. I have discovered that if you unlock it and drag it to one side you see another checkered layer below. Thanks Alfred. I don’t normally have any problems with png files and as I said I know that with the ones (few though they be) that come with an attached checkered background I can remove said background in free online facilities. It can also be done within the full Photoshop but I don’t have Photoshop. I take it that there isn’t a way of doing it then within Affinity unless it came in PSD format.

I have downloaded a couple from freepik.com Alfred.

Some downloaded .png files come with a checkered background instead of a fully transparent background. I know that there are online facilities which will remove said background for free but I wondered if there was a way of doing it within Affinity Photo or Designer. Thank you for your very quick response. That's what I was hoping but I don't understand where I am supposed to download Version two of the applications from as downloads for those have not been included as far as I can see in the downloads that came with the Universal Licence. Sorry if I am being stupid here. But where would I download Affinity Photo and Designer from?

I am confused. I have just purchased the Universal Licence during the Black Friday Sale. I thought I was also purchasing an upgrade from version 1 to version 2 but in the downloads I can’t see an upgrade for Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer anywhere. Where am I going wrong please. Help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Help please...I have somehow managed to associate the files found at this location %AppData%\Affinity\Photo\1.0\user\assets.propcol with my Photoshop Elements software and I’ve no idea how to change them back again or what to change them too. Stupid I know! I’m on Windows 10 and running Version 1.9.2 Affinity Photo. Any help would be appreciated to get my irons out of the fire.

Please excuse my ignorance but I have searched for an answer to this to no avail. I have seen in various threads people who are having problems with an update to say, for example, Affinity Photo and saying they will roll back to the previous version...can someone tell me how you do that please.

I’m up and running again after following instructions from the Topaz Tech help to copy/paste the plugin tltopazstudio2ps_64.8bf from the first location listed below to the second location listed below. C:\Program Files\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Studio 2\PS_Plugins_x64 and C:Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2020\Plugins\PS_Plugins_x64 I have to commend the Topaz Tech folk as my experience with them has been good.

Thanks Greyfox and it worked well in Photoshop Elements also until this last Topaz update when something has gone wrong somewhere. Time will tell if the problem can be solved or not.

Thank you for your comment Greyfox. To explain...I have Topaz Studio 2 and the plugin ran fine in both Affinity Photo and Adobe Photoshop Elements until the latest update for TS2. Following that update when using the plugin via Affinity Photo I found that Topaz appeared to retain hold of the last image worked on and when I opened the plugin in Adobe Photoshop Elements it opened with that last image onscreen and no way to remove it. Contacting Topaz Support I was advised to uninstall Topaz and was also given instructions to delete the Topaz Studio 2 folders in the Registry as indicated... Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Studio 2 Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Studio 2. Then I was advised to reboot and obtain a new download of Topaz via a link they provided and install it again. The result of all this is that the plugin works in Affinity Photo but it doesn’t appear to be working in Photoshop Elements and causes me to have to close PSE via the Task Manager and that is where the state of the parties are at present. It seems to me that the fault lies with Topaz!!! The standalone version of Topaz is working fine.

I'm so sorry I spoke too soon and I'm still having problems. I have contacted Topaz Tech help again. When and if I get it sorted I will come back and try to explain properly if I can.

I have the free Nik collection of plugins, On1 plugins and various Topaz Studio and Topaz Studio2 plug ins. It’s the latter that are causing problems. I am in contact with the Topaz Tech team and they are giving me instructions to try and resolve the matter. They have asked me to check in ‘C’ Program Files for Affinity and Adobe Photoshop Elements (I also have the plugins there) to see if Studio 2 has any copy of the plugins installed in these applications. I can find them in Photoshop Elements but I can’t find a path for plugins in Affinity. My problem is when I use the plug in in Affinity and close everything down Topaz is holding onto the image used in Affinity and failing to release it if I want to use it with Photoshop Elements. I hope I have explained myself well. Thanks for responding to my question.

Can anyone tell me the path to the location where Affinity Photo keeps plugins which I have installed please. I have searched my C Drive and I've searched for an answer here but can't find anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re Affinity Photo - Each time after updating/installing the last two versions 1.8.2 and 1.8.3 I have had to run a Repair of the installation due to the fact that the default brushes or the thumbnails for said brushes for AP seem to go missing during the update. Other brushes I have added myself are not affected. Am I the only person experiencing this or is this a known problem and if so is there a fix on the way. I am on a Windows PC running Windows 10. Thanks...
