    Hi,
i am searching for any option to reset any squeezed or transformed picture to its original aspect ratio and to scale pictures numeric in %. while the rotation can be set to zero in the Transform Studio there is nothing like "Reset X/Y to 100%". The four different scale-options in the Pictureframe Properties don´t reset to the original aspect ratio of the file once the content is distorted. When working with files like floor plans, it is necessary to make exact changes like: 25% back to 75% etc.
there should be deninitly x% and y% in the Transform Studio. I would like to have the option "Reset X/Y to 100%" at the image properties or some easy way to reset distorted images with a click thanks!

This is a major missing feature!
There is no such information like the actual size in % which is absolutely annoying!
The transform studio only shows the W and H so you have to do the math to scale a picture for example to 75%. if you want to fill a frame with a picture at 100%, you have to first set at the Picture frame properties "None - the picture will not be scaled" then place the image so it fills at 100%. Now you can use "doubleclick+select little black arrow" to select the Picture and use the transform studio to scale it - you can use % at the W or H field, so 75% for example. If you change your mind because you want the picture to be at 80% you have to do some math again. So scale it up to 133.33333333333% (since the actual size is set to 100% again) an then scale it again down to 80%.
I am using a lot of objects that have to be exactly at certain scales, floor plans PDF files. So when I come back to any project and open the publisher file after a while, there is no way for me to find out the scale of the floor plans without checking the original PDF sizes at the resource manager and do the math again which is ridiculous!
So once again: PLEASE put the absolute %W and %H into the Transform Studio.

    Totally agree with ChrisGraz.
One more thing concerning percentages: Percentages of placed images should be stored! At the moment, whe you replace an image, the new image just appears in whatever size. This is extremly annoying when for example you want to update an picture with a newer version of itself and it jumps back to its original size and you need to to the scaling/cropping-adjustments all over again.

Hi Chris, the transform palette options in Publisher are quite basic, I cannot see a percentage value - this is much more useful when scaling objects which regularly comes up in our workflow.
For example: if you have multiple images of different dimensions and/or formats and you want to scale them all to say 50% or 25% of their original size - please see attached screen grab from Indesign to explain this.
Nearly all design software both 2D and 3D has a scale factor function in either 'percentage' or decimal value 'scale up or down by a factor of 1.5 or 0.5' ..surely Publisher has this and I'm just not seeing it!?

I think if you read the rest of the forum you'll see why it's essential to many people. You don't need to understand it or need it yourself, just accept that a lot of people require it.
I work at a printing company and often need to be a lot more precise in measuring things. Percentage comes into play there. If I place one image and then manually have to make it smaller, then place a second image that needs to be scaled down the same amount, how can I tell by how much the first image was scaled down? With InDesign, I would select both placed images and then change the percentage to 25% (for example).
Percentage also comes into play when I am creating different sized versions of the same file (say, different sized posters), so I can make sure in the new size that all elements are scaled properly. There are of course work arounds in Publisher but it takes more time and as posted above, sometimes requires doing the math manually.
fde101 above says "percentage of what?" - this would be a percentage of the current size. So if a box is 2x2 and you choose to scale by 200%, then the box increases to 4x4. Now the 4x4 size is considered 100% for that object. Photos are the same except dpi is involved.

I agree with all this. I just started using Publisher on a small project and I find it hard to managing sizing of objects of all kinds if percentage isn't part of the tools. It could be in the Transform panel or even in the contextual toolbar, and not just for images but all items.

Yes, like in AD. I was mistaken that the Resource Manager also displayed the scaled percentage...but that was in something else.
And both have the same issue when trying to get a resized image back to its original size using the transform panel if going by a pixel dimension resize.
If I have an image that is 800x535 px that has 180dpi written into it when placed at 100% size, resize it and try using the transform panel to resize it back to that dimension using the pixel dimensions that is displayed, it is much smaller.
Having the percentage an image is scaled available and being able to modify the current size based upon that percentage is a definitely a should have feature.

Thank you. But this info is not what I need. When I return to the image after a time when its size has been modified differently, and now I need to have it back to its original size. How can I do this if I do not know its original dimension? See, what I mean in InDesign, pls.
btw: Affinity Publiseher is great software, to which I want to move from Indesign

Hello, where can I find on selected image info about actual original size? For example: I placed a picture, somehow diminished its size. And now I need to know what size it has to the original size (like 88.3%).

    Hello,
I’ve been using DP software for more than 20 years and I can state that for any important publishing project the % of the imported images are extremely important, I would say they are mandatory. You cannot ask users to calculate the % from the image sizes in pixel, it is an enormous waste of time when, for instance, the layout includes hundreds of pictures.
However, I’ve just starting testing the software and I think you have done a great job, though the way it handles pictures is probably the field where you need to implement the most.

I'm using Affinity Designer 1.6.1 on macOS and this is one of the most important features I'm missing doing UI work:
Being able to create an object style (say "Button outline", or "Info panel style") and apply it to all relevant such objects. Then, critically being able to CHANGE the style (adjust the stroke for example) and have all objects with the style applied to them update. Currently it seems I can create and apply styles, but I can't change them which to me removes 80% of the usefulness of having styles.
Incidentally, text styles in Affinity Designer work fine and just the way I would expect them as described above, so it's surprising and a little confusing the object styles do not. Perhaps this indicates that similar object styles are on the roadmap (somewhere I can't find?) but the developers just haven't gotten around to it yet?

ChrisGraz reacted to musiberti in Wrong layer concept for an layout application
As a layout artist you see your project as a whole. Not as a collection of single pages. For the latter one better uses a illustration app like AD.
I consider it's a big mistake adopting the level concept of AD and AP for AP.  Most layouters use layers primarily for alternative designs, which can then be faded in and out with a single mouse click. Exactly this is not possible with AP and its current layers concept.
I know, it is difficult to change, because AP should be compatible with AD. But maybe you could bypass the problem by offering the option to mark selected layers as cross-project. This could be a publisher-only function.

ChrisGraz reacted to Maram in A long list of suggestions and small glitches
I'm used to the magic of InDesign, but working with Affinity Publisher is my hopeful replacement of this good, but overpriced software.  Thanks so much for the BETA testing opportunity.  Here's a wishlist and some glitches I've encountered:
    ● HYPERLINKS: Add the option to include hyperlinks on any text (including when it's saved to curves. (For example, I want to hyperlink /myname on my resume to www.linkedin.com/myname, but can’t, and don’t want to waste the visual space adding the entire link when an icon will do)
    ● BULLET STYLES: Setting up bullet styles could be easier. In general, I want a small indent on the text after my bullets, and the continuing text on the next line, and thereafter to be indented the same as the first line (pretty standard). Currently, this requires putting in a bullet, changing the Tabstop value, then scrolling up to the Spacing menu and putting in a left indent, which for some reason automatically changes the first line indent, which I then have to change back to zero.  I think it would be better if A) changing the left indent doesn’t automatically change the first line indent - really no menu change should automatically change another menu item, IMO. B) The bullet automatically has a more standard indenting default, which people can adjust if they like.  I think it’s unlikely that a first line only indent on a bulleted list is anyone’s preference.
    ● INSERT IMAGES IN TEXT BOX: I’d like to be able to insert an image inside a text box (ie. Where the bottom of the image is aligned with the line of the bottom of the type on a line as the default, but this could be changed, and/or insert an image in a table and have text flow around it. Right now, I can’t figure out if there’s a way to do this.
    ● SCREEN SPACE / INTERFACE IMPROVEMENTS: The Pages and Assets menu - on a small laptop screen, this is taking a lot of space that could be better used for viewing your design. I’d like to be able to shrink the menu to half the width, or close it completely.  There’s a lot of wasted space if you switch to medium or small size page icons, so not sure why it has been given so much real estate!
    ● COLUMNS: When creating columns in a text box (ie. Not in a table), I would like the option to adjust the space between columns  - I see you can move them - adjusting the columns themselves, but I would like to set a different spacing to apply to a whole text box.
    ● LINES: I can’t figure out an easy way to draw or insert a straight line as a design element.  The option seems to be to use the pencil, but requires a very steady hand - would be ideal to set a start and end point and have it default to a straight horizontal, and/or snap to some logical angles when you rotate it.
    ● PLACING .AI FILES: For some reason when I’m placing .ai graphics, Affinity is adding a lot of extra empty space around the edges, which means the graph/ic is so large that I cannot find the corners to shrink, and/or clip it.  I’m working with a really old version of Illustrator, so could be why? This is definitely causing some headaches.
