you can set the stroke to inner stroke. Then it will not impact the outer edge. By default, all strokes are centred, 1/2 to inside, 1/2 to outside.

William Overington reacted to Homoud in How to create a polygon to form a final object shape?
    Hello,
I am unable to cut a stroked edge (thickness) without affecting the overall object shape (changing the stroke size will impact the overall shape so it should be constant in order to keep the edge curve same). Attached example for your support, please.
    Thanks a lot.

William Overington reacted to walt.farrell in Does Affinity version 2 support colour fonts please?
There have been no enhancements in font handling in V2 over what V1 provided. So, in answer to your question: only the color fonts that V1 supported would work in V2. But I have no idea what those are; only that some exist. There are discussions of this in the forums, and a search for color fonts would probably find them, with some work reading the results.

If you know you got it direct from Serif, you don’t need to remember exactly how you got it. The important point is that you didn’t get it via the Microsoft Store, so the Affinity Store is the correct place to look.

William Overington reacted to v_kyr in How can I add Affinity version 1 software already licensed to me onto a new computer please?
If you at least remember from where you've bought the Affinity v1 apps, aka the Serif- or MS Store, try to log in there and see your history (recap/comprehend) of purchased/bought apps. - You then should be able to download from there any previously bought app and also get your license key informations.

I find that the quickest way to get to my Affinity Store account is to begin by typing
    affinity.store
into my browser’s address/location bar. The store’s home page has a set of icons in the top right-hand corner, the leftmost one of which (head and shoulders in a circle) takes me to the sign-in page.

The following link will take you directly to the ‘Downloads & product keys’ page (via the sign-in page if you aren’t already signed in):

If you purchased from Serif then just go to your account at the Affinity Store and download from there. There's an Account section named Downloads and Product Keys.

William Overington reacted to SrPx in How much RAM is needed to run Affinity software please? Is 4 Gigabytes enough?
I recently realized that opening a laptop doesn't mean its immediate destruction/explosion/armageddon/Thanos burping.    (not completely sure, yet, tho...)
I have always been a PC desktop user (for the OS, some Mac OS and Linux handling at the jobs, and quite some Linux at home, but  that's it; am a windozer) and never saw the point of having a laptop till recently (due to EU's energy costs, mobility and that these things are now finally powerful).
I don't know all of you in your countries, but I keep finding that in my area 16GBs RAM PC (even without Windows, as I get it apart) laptops are usually at a fine or slightly high price, 8gb ones are the only ones at super low prices, but 32GB ones require a huge investment, like jumping to a whole new category where you are getting many other premium stuff you maybe don't need that badly. Like there's nothing in between, it needs to go super premium for just 16 gb more (well, I did a replacement (2x16 kit), to get dual channel memory performance, and for it to actually work due to compatibility etc).
So I went ahead and followed a Youtube tutorial (yeah, high tech education ) to avoid breaking the thing and opened a new one which I got with 16gb, installed 32gb (which I previously had seen would be compatible (brand and type) after some touches in the BIOS) and the resulting price was a lot lower. Maybe not an advice for everyone, as even the idea hurts, to do it to a brand new laptop, and seeing how you have to like push certain plastics in the joint with a visa card or similar, which sounds as if you were breaking  the thing, and how you need to unplug the battery if changing other thing than RAM or disk (well...even for that is a good idea. I just don't do it) , I can see how a lot of people prefer to avoid it. But I lost the fear, haha. Now I call it "mobile PC build" . Much more disk and RAM makes it practically a desktop for graphics (if having at least a 1650 or 3050 graphics card. I've looked up how to change the GPU, but finally that's too much, and a 3060 is plenty. Tho the external GPU entire thing is tempting (but rather expensive)).

I have had good luck buying cheap computer stuff like used RAM for old computers on eBay.
On Windows 10, installed size of Designer and Photo is about 1 GB for each program.
FYI, if you are thinking of repairing your Lenovo, you might try asking for help on this really great forum dedicated to such issues: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/
    Good luck!

William Overington reacted to GarryP in How much RAM is needed to run Affinity software please? Is 4 Gigabytes enough?
If you’re worried that there probably isn’t enough RAM for a full Windows 10 installation then there’s probably more of a worry that it's not enough RAM for that and the Affinity applications.
I’ve just started a clean launch of Photo 2, with no open documents, and it’s using just under 0.5Gb of RAM.
Opening a single FHD image takes the memory usage up to around 0.7GB, with no edits (and every edit takes up memory).
It’s possible that you could use the Affinity applications with just 4GB of RAM but I don’t think the experience would be a good one.
As for storage, there’s no way for us to know how much you will need because we don’t know what you will be doing.
The V1 Affinity application installations took around 1GB each but the V2 applications are installed differently and have more ‘shared things’.
I generally wouldn’t recommend anything less than 500GB for storage, maybe 256MB if you also have an external drive (which can be bought later if needed).
All-in-all, it’s quite rare that anyone says: “I wish I hadn’t spec’d my machine so high, I’ll never use all of it.”

What I said some time ago here to you still applies! - Aka avoid buying something crappy here, which means some weak underpowered consumer Laptop/Notebook! Nowadays I wouldn't take anything below >=16 GB RAM memory & >=512 GB SSD capacity, since that's more realistic todays minimum! - Thus as Murphy's Law always said, the more the merrier!

William Overington reacted to Old Bruce in How much RAM is needed to run Affinity software please? Is 4 Gigabytes enough?
This is from 2 Macs so isn't really applicable. But... My laptop with 4 GB of RAM will run the Affinity version 1 suite, but very slowly. What takes seconds on the desktop Mac takes tens of seconds to minutes on the laptop. So the answer is probably a yes but your experience will be frustrating and time consuming. Even simply saving a file takes a long time on the laptop.

I finally figured out an easy way to create a symmetrical shapes such as this classic US highway sign.  Simply create half the shape, duplicate, flip horizontally and then join the two elements into one.

William Overington reacted to Komatös in For how long will Serif support downloading of version 1 Affinity software please?
Customers who purchased V1 directly from the Serif Affinity Store can still access the download files via their store account. Users who purchased the V1 versions from the Microsoft Store should be able to download the old versions from their library. I can't say what the availability is for macOS and iOS. But it should be similar.
  17. Thanks
William Overington reacted to walt.farrell in For how long will Serif support downloading of version 1 Affinity software please?
Serif has not said anything about discontinuing downloads for customers who already own V1. I suppose that will happen someday, but I doubt they have any information to provide about when that might be.
Personally, I try to ensure that the system backups I maintain also have a copy of the application installers, in case I ever need them and can't get them from the vendor for some reason.

William Overington reacted to Murfee in Can PDF documents of art with a licence to print a small number of copies be sold from the Serif Affinity Store please?
The content in the Serif Store is for people to use to create their own artwork, a big difference from paying to print art created by somebody else.
I agree with Walt, there are plenty of sites already for those wanting to sell their work.
Have you really considered all the time and cost implications for Serif to set up and maintain such a site, for probably very little in return. I do not think a site for creatives is the right place for what you are proposing.

William Overington reacted to walt.farrell in Can PDF documents of art with a licence to print a small number of copies be sold from the Serif Affinity Store please?
I don't think the web needs another site for users to sell their work, William. There are a number available already. If you have something to sell, you can just use one of them if you don't want to run your own.
For example, some users (including Serif's James Ritson) use https://gumroad.com (note: I have no connection with that site, and am only a customer there, not a seller).
