William Overington reacted to mac_heibu in PDF/A
As far as I know, the PDF library of „Publisher“ is a licensed 3rd party product. Besides that, I doubt, that a software company will tell you, „how much extra work“ will be needed to implement a certain feature.
If you read the specs, you will see, that PDF/A is no „special“ PDF, but a standard PDF, following certain rules, which partially differ according to the PDF/A standards (font embedding, no encryption, no compression, no video content, no external references, …, …,)
By the way: There are many online converters like this one https://docupub.de/pdfconvert/ available.

William Overington reacted to Steps in Support for PDF/A?
I learnt that there is a PDF/A standard for long term archival of PDF documents.
See Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDF/A#PDF/A-3
I would like to keep my work future proof.
Is support for this planned?

William Overington reacted to Morgoth in Removing ligatures
Is there a way to globally remove ligatures from a document created with pasted text?
Where can I turn off the use of ligatures if I do not want the pasted text to use ligatures?

William Overington reacted to fde101 in Pantone
If you look on the Swatches panel (not the Color panel - those are two different panels) there is a popup menu that allows you to select a swatch palette. There are several Pantone options in that list.

William Overington reacted to Abacab in Pantone
Am gradually getting to grips with Publisher and enjoying the process. However, I can't seem to find the Pantone numbers option in the swatches/colour selector area. Presume it is a feature?

William Overington reacted to SamSteele in What do these symbols do?
Sorry to ask such a basic question but can anyone tell me what these two symbols do?
TIA.

William Overington reacted to walt.farrell in What do these symbols do?
If you hover your mouse over them you should get the basic explanations, "Synchronize defaults from selection" and "Revert Defaults". They are shortcuts to the menu Edit > Defaults > Synchronize from Selection and Edit > Defaults > Revert.
The Help says:
So, basically, the first one lets you change the default settings to match those of a selected object (things like stroke, fill, color, font size, ...).
The second one lets you revert all the synchronized defaults to the saved default settings (from Edit > Defaults > Save) if no object is selected, or lets you revert just the attributes of a selected object.
I'm still in the experimenting stage with the defaults myself, so I can't really say more at this time.

William Overington reacted to Alfred in How much will a licence to use Affinity Publisher cost please?
It has previously been indicated that a licence for Affinity Publisher will be the same price as a licence for either of the other Affinity desktop apps; i.e. $49.99 / £48.99 / 54,99 €. There is likely to be a substantial discount for the first week or two after the retail launch of the product.

William Overington reacted to PaRunk in I would like to have these improvements and additional features
I would like to have these improvements and additional features:
Tables:
1. Create tables from selected texts with tab stops.
2. Convert tables to continuous text.
3. Can share single cells at any time. (Helpful for complex tables and subsequent cell division changes)
4. Can change cell size by moving the dividing lines.
Import (placing) of further text files:
Word .docx, .doc
Excel .xlsx, .xls
The copying and pasting of the texts is only possible if you have a program with which you can open these files.
Diagram tool (was there in PagePlus)
Calendar tool (give it in PagePlus)
Create QR code and EAN code
Open Indesign and QuarkXpress and PagePlus files
Export Indesign and QuarkXpress files

Hello,
Is there any way to open the Publisher for more languages?
I have much more use for the program in my own language, Norwegian.

Wow, you made that video specially for me. Thank you.
I also found it on YouTube.

I fear, you don’t use a Mac, William, where it is that simple to use these kind of characters: Just hold the key down for a tiny moment and – voilà :

William and I are both Windows users, so we have to resort to aids like this one: http://esperanto.typeit.org

William Overington reacted to Alfred in Glyph browser goes peculiar!
If I select Arial and search for 'h' or 'H' (without the quotation marks) I get a long list of results beginning with 'Apostrophe', 'Left Parenthesis', 'Right Parenthesis', 'Hyphen-Minus' and 'Digit Three'. If I search instead for 'h{space}' I get 'Latin Capital Letter A With Diaeresis', etc, and if I search for '{space} h' I get 'Latin Capital Letter H', 'Latin Small Letter H', 'Latin Capital Letter F With Hook', etc. Searching for '{space}H{space}' seems to give me only H glyphs including accents or diacritics.

William Overington got a reaction from RickyO in Where is the latest beta and in which forum please?
On the page https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/forum/62-affinity-publisher-beta-forums/ there is the following:
> Are you using the latest beta build?
> ( There is normally a post pinned at the top of the relevant forum that describes where to find the beta installer)
Could that be changed to give an explicit link to the post please and also to name the forum rather than just say that it is "the relevant forum" please?

Yes, you can. (As I just did in a simple test.)

Is it possible to have a hyperlink on a master page that works on all pages?

William Overington reacted to Lensman in True Type font support
Thank you for the replies.
I am on a PC. It is a Chinese font. It is not outlined. I use it right next to other fonts on the same page in the same manner.
The file is called "HDZB_25.ttf", but in the list it is called "汉鼎繁印". I use it with several other Chinse fonts that work fine in Publisher, Word and InDesign.
Upon further investigation, I found that the file embeddability is Restricted (in the properties panel)... If that is the reason, then why does it work fine in Word and InDesign, but not Publisher?

William Overington reacted to Alfred in True Type font support
That’s very odd, William! If I close and reopen a browser tab after starting to draft a reply, the forum software restores the unposted content for me.

As in the ‘Plus’ applications, locking a layer in the Affinity apps only locks against transformation and deletion. You can still edit the contents of the layer.
