Hi Thank you for posting the link to this thread in the following thread. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/154579-christmas-cards-2021/ I have been trying to make an image by making an SVG file, without converting text to curves, of my card in the above thread, exporting the svg file from an .afdesign file, not from the png file that is in the forum post, then placing it in a copy of your file that has the card coming out of the envelope. I then made my card the same width as your card, with the aspect ratio locked when I resized it. I moved it to the same (x, y) as your card and rotated by -12 degrees and it lay over your card. So far, good. However, part of the wording was inside the envelope, so I moved the card out of the envelope so that all the wordimg became visible. So far, good, but! The "but" is that the top of the card was now higher than the background. I have tried to stretch the background, change the setup size of the document, but I am stuck at present. I am still trying to work out how to do it. William

So you send them a PDF document, they display it, read it and translate. How does the process proceed from there please? For example, will they send you a text file with the translated text and you then use copy and paste to edit a copy of the Affinity Publisher file? Will the text file that they send to you be in Unicode or in an old 8-bit codespace format? William

Yes, but it would have had to go into WordPad and I might then have possibly had to go through it removing extra carriage returns, so I did it that way. The issue was that I had thought that the y acute of the Slovak version was a good test, but I later seemed to remember that its code point in below U+0100 so to be sure I checked it and it was below U+0100 so I redid the test with the Czech version as the Czech version includes a z caron that has a code point above U+00FF and so satisfied the test that I wanted to check. Puns about the medieval armourer of Prague and the like are expected from the honourable gentleman fromn Scotland. William

I am wondering if the best way out of this problem is to offer to pay for the translators to buy Affinity Publisher. Then the translators could change the text in the fields that contain text but leave the things such as 0.75 mm unchanged. But even then there could be big problems. I tried a test. I copied the line of text decribing the Material of the first product. Stahlblech verzinkt und beschichtet So, I used, just as a test to get an idea, Google translate. I translated it to Czech (though I did also have a look at what it is in English). The Czech has a z caron character in it, which is beyond the first 256 characters of Unicode, so a good test. So I then copied that Czech text (accepting that I do not know the provemance of thar translation, but this is a test) onto the clipboard and tried to get it into the Affinity Publisher document. Deleting the original text first does not work as the font size is then lost. So shorten the original to the first letter then paste the Czech text, then remove the first letter of the original. But I needed to widen the text box too. Now I am not an expert user of Affinity Publisher but I have some experience with it, and I got it to work But I did just one field. However, the translated text was in Unicode. If it had come back in a text file and that text file was using an 8-bit character representation with the Central Euopean code page for the 128 8-bit characters starting with binary 1 there could be big problems. So the question that occurs to me is that even if you could export the text in a plain text file, when you get the translated plain text file back from the translators in a Unicode plain text file, how do you proceed? But I suppose that if you have a client who is willing to pay for the time it will take, then fine. William

I didn't know about that. I have not use WritePlus. The OP mentions "fields". It is not clear to me exactly what the OP has done in the original document. I was musing on whether export to svg without converting text to curves might help, but it possbly may not. But maybe if we can get into the detail of the problem an answer could be found, though perhaps not. William

Just for clarification, do the translators use characters from Unicode to express the text or are they using an old 8-bit format with code pages? For languages such as Czech and Slovak this could be a significant computing issue if Unicode is not being used. William

Could ypu possibly make a demonstration .afpub file and upload ot to this thread please? Not about the real products in the catalogue, just one or two fictional products expressed using fields in the same way, so that there is something to carry out tests on to find out if there is a way to solve the problem. I suggest this because it is not totally clear to me what is the problem. William

As a result of producing what are advertised as photo greetings cards yet i am producing using original non-photographic artwork, sending to myself and then framing them for my personal collection and enjoyment, I have, when trying out ideas in Affinity Designer, been making the artwork of a size and at 300 dots per inch such that if I were to decide to order such a card of the artwork, that the artwork is already the correct size needed for the card. I then produce a jpg file at top quality to upload to the Papier website in order to order the card. An interestimng aspect is that the Papier website needs a CMYK file in order to print the card. However, I did accidentally send an RGB jpg file and it printed well and making a CMYK file in Affinity Designer made some of the colours duller, so I have continued to send RGB jpg files and they work well. As Papier offers printing of photo cards made direct from photos gathered from a mobile phone with no processing by the end user, as those are sometime RBG jpg files, I expect that the Papier system has a way of checking and converying built in. I wonder if the printing facility that Papier uses more than four colours of inks when printing the images as I have been impressed by the colourfulness of the results. I use a size in pixels of 2171 pixels by 1571 pixels, being, at 300 dots per inch 7 inches by 5 inches with 3 millimetres of bleed area on each edge built into the artwork. If I post images in this forum I make a png image at one third size both horizontally and vertically, which is 724 pixels by 524 pixels. In earlir posts, including some in this thread, I used 500 pixels for the shorter edge but I have changed that as, thinking about it, making it exactly one third seemed a better approach. PagePus X7 has 40 Quickshapes. Affinity Desgner, notwithstanding not usimg the name Quickshapes, seems to have only 21. Does anyone know why please? The set of 21 does not appear to be a subset of the set of 40. William
