  1. Though I suppose that a lot depends upon what facilities @pioneer has at home, at the club, elsewhere, or online, such as whether getting an A3 print can be done from a PDF document or is done by putting an A4 paper document into a photocopier and an A3 size print being output (do some photocopiers do that?). William
  2. Just wondering, is there any particular reason that you did not design it as an A3 please? Enlarging from A4 to A3 will mean a ratio of around 1.414 in each of width and height. I wonder if that might cause problems with enlarging the pictures. I don't know whether it will or not, I am just wondering. By the way, number 11 is on YouTube. William
  3. Given that theme, I think I know who is number 9. Also possibly number 2. William
  4. With the original Picture quiz, even when I had seen the answers I realized that I did not know who are a lot of them. Looking through these sixteen pictures, however, I recognize two of them, number 11 and number 16, and I think that that may well have given me the theme. William
  5. Oh oh oh as pedantry is in the air, 😁 he was often referred to as Pete Murray, but the credits had Peter Murray. William
  6. That's right, always put the letter first, then the combining diacritical mark. Just a thought, I know that the character that looks something like a circumflex accent that is on the same keyboard key as a figure 6 on at least the English keyboard is not the combining circumflex. I am not immediately knowing whether there is or is not some character that might look like a combining macron but is not. The reason I mention this is that I think that the "going rate" for these combining diacritical marks is that they have zero advance width in the font so that they "have a go" at producing a reasonable attempt at an accented character straight off, though unless it is a monospaced font, then results can be variable, from good through reasonable to poor, though nevertheless conveying meaning. So the result that @Alfred got first seems strange to me if that is the combining macron. There is a collection of Combining Diacritical Marks as they are called. https://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/U0300.pdf William
  7. Oh, that symbol like an eye to the left of the smiley in the panel where a reply is set up. How does it work?
  8. @pioneer Is it time to post the answers yet please? If you know how to do it, could the results be behind one of those spoller protection items? I don't know how to do that at present, but maybe @Alfred may explain that please. William
  9. @GarryP Is number 18 the phrase used in gold mining when the lode of gold is diminishing in size to nothing as the mining proceeds? William
  10. @GarryP @Alfred I have now changed the text of the links. I have also added additional explanation to the post in Alfred's forum that is linked from the second link. Thank you both. William
  11. It relates to the Welsh for daffodil being, when transated into English, a Peter's Leek. I accept that I tend to ramble away, yet I find that as a good way to gather wide knowledge and good experience. Some people are very much "stay rigorously on-topic" and I accept that, but it is not how my mind works. So, yes, I have linked to a music video, and to that thread, both due to connections to the theme of this quiz. It is for each reader to decide whether to listen to the music and whether to follow the links. William
  12. Going a bit - well ... - off-topic, here is an interesting occurrence that some readers may enjoy learning about. Two links, the links go to two posts in the same thread in Alfred's forum. A picture generated by Bing Chat AI as a result of the AI mistranslating from some text writtten in Welsh An explanation that involves the Welsh equivalent of the name Peter William
  13. Why is the Daffodil a Symbol of Wales? (walesguidebook.com) William
  14. Well, I looked at the pictures and I could not name any of them. The only one I recognized at first was number 6 - was he the lead and the first on screen each week in a well-known American television series years ago? Upon learning of the theme I think I recognize and know the name of number 15. Now maybe it is because I don't go to the cinema, don't follow sport, and don't watch Eastenders, or maybe some other reason. But there we are, in case you thought it too easy, well, for me it is not, it is impossible, yet at your club there are teams so as this is the Share your work quiz team, me not recognizing them is not a problem. Having learned of the identity of number 2 I remembered this music. William
  15. Yes, it is a club with a regular membership, though maybe a member may bring a guest. For someone with a special dietary need, what happens about the food is important. For this event omnivores are told it is Burger 'n' Chips. How exactly do others find out what is available and request it? It just seems to me that it could be stated up front what is available. Does the special meal need to be pre-booked? Or what? I also wonder about events where food is bundled in with something else as if everyone is happy to eat when out. For example, a well-known heritage railway advertised an event to drive a diesel locomotive and a meal with other participants on the course was part of the package for which a fee was to be charged. All well-intentioned I expect yet can be a difficult situation for some people. William
  16. As it is, it seems like a polite chef answering someone who has, having seen Burger 'n' Chips advertised, said, somewhat grumpily "Oh, all omnivore stuff, this is 2024, what about Vegans who want to see the show?" and the chef replies. For the future, could the chef have the scroll headed Supper Choice and then the various choices listed in a column, with Burger 'n' Chips first, then (say, as examples here for explanation purposes - real life version depends how the chips are cooked) Baked Potato & Beans *, Cheese Flan & Chips o, Vegetable Pie & Beans % , Rice & Tomatoes *, with asterisks etc and a legend below with things like * vegan and no gluten % vegan o vegetarian So that the special diets are presented as mainstream rather than as being a bit offbeat. I suggest Supper Choice rather than Supper Menu so that it is clear that one does not get one of each item. William
  17. Elvis sings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBSIpBpsQJQ The song in German with English subtitles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CIimgUq7ic Regarding the design of the artwork, did the picture of Gary arrive with the background or is the background your own? The backgrounds are splendid. William
  18. Let's give a warm ... Share your work forum welcome ... to ... Gary King ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNGR_J-Ka4Y and welcome also to another Elvis impersonator, Gary Jay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtJtJVq7frY William
  19. Gold star to the club for looking after people's dietary needs. William
