Rodi got a reaction from lacerto in Same issue, PDF Export not good.
Lagarto, I will try that next time.
I am not knocking Affinity products. I actually have found them quite useful, and they do things that I could never get done otherwise with ID/AI.... but some of the things that should be straight forward are not.
I think what I will do next time is make duplicate copies, I think it really gets hung up on multiple copies of a pdf in a document.
Thanks for all the input.
I am optimistic and I think they will get it done at some point. Good thing is they aren't even in the radar of most printshops/design houses so they can mature the product some more. I used ID 1, 1.5

Rodi got a reaction from Dazmondo77 in Same issue, PDF Export not good.
PDFs come from everywhere in my shop. I need to be able to make folding panels go quickly, next job is on deck!
Here is the thing, it's a great tool, if they get these small things ironed out, it's gonna be a dragon slayer, and I want it to work. I have a job that is a two (2) color item, done in Illustrator, never to do size with bleed always has to be fit in. I would spend a lot of time fixing it in Acrobat/Illustrator/ID. I get it done in a few minutes now... It's a great program.

Rodi reacted to wonderings in Same issue, PDF Export not good.
It has been a while since I have tested this but man they have made this overly complex for something that should be so simple.
Did you create in Publisher or are they placed PDF's from elsewhere? I see the text is 100 % K but when I export using all your settings save changing the ICC profile to SWOP 2, which matches your document settings. I get the text 100% K in Acrobat but it has 1% magenta. If I view in Indesign as separations it has a small percentage CMY.
This still baffles me why you can't simply export a PDF in CMYK that matches the CMYK settings you have in your file. This is not even a question people ask with Indesign, it just works simply. Why the Affinity suite is amazing value for the money this is one of the reasons I do not think it is ready to replace Adobe. I certainly am not rushing to get rid of Adobe, it works, does not give me headaches for simple things like this and it makes me money. It is also the standard in print, I have only had one customer bring in a PDF that was made with Designer and they are not designers, just someone who took advantage of a great app for a great price. I personally would save yourself the headaches and stick with Adobe for the moment till they resolve a lot of little things.

Rodi got a reaction from jmwellborn in Adding Affinity to Work Computer
I brought my version to work (as well as some other programs), because I want to be able to really knock the crap out of the program and learn it inside out in pressure situations. I have had some hiccups along the way, but it is a really great program. I am waiting for the day a customer sends a Publisher file in. I work that!
So far it has both impressed and confused!

Too true!
For years I was involved with producing "What's On" brochures for a theatre, with a calendar listing shows, dates, times etc. Three of us used to proof read these. Taking our time, checking everything several times over. As sure as God made little apples, for virtually every edition, we'd approve the proofs, the print would be delivered and as soon as I looked at the finished article, there, standing out like a sore thumb, was some glaring, obvious, typo that all of us should have spotted easily. Never failed! 😁

Rodi got a reaction from Alfred in Typography in Affinity Publisher
Giambasta Bodoni, the excellent printer from Parma who pushed the Didot types (funny enough now mostly named "Bodonis", some of my favorites), had books littered with typos.
It's print, keep looking, you find mistakes!
Very well done Prouve!

If we’re going to be picky, there should be a hyphen instead of an en dash in the word.

Rodi reacted to Old Bruce in Processing out again
Not at all sure what you are wanting but I have to ask if the Publisher/Designer/Photo document you have is in Greyscale or RGB or CMYK.
In which application are "the fonts rendered wrong", the Affinity Application is it in the Placed / Dropped in PDF or in the Exported PDF? Which fonts and are they present and enabled on your system.

1.92 appears to have fixed the problem. I can now go on trying to use Publisher more regularly!
Thank You!

Same here, Colin, but when I decided to investigate I found this:

It surprises me to find that anyone in Suffolk (or, indeed, anywhere in the UK) needs to use a font that supports Unicode Canadian Aboriginal Syllabic script!

Rodi reacted to Tonda in Can anyone recommend an acrobat pro alternative?
Take a look on https://www.qoppa.com/pdfstudio - I own the older Pro version and coming from Acrobat Pro X I am quite happy with it, although I am not sure if it does really everything you mentioned. You can try yourself the free trial here: https://www.qoppa.com/pdfstudio/download and at the moment they have promos 25 % Valentine discount + next version for free with purchase. Just note that it requires Java (at least the older version I own).

I'm afraid pdfToolbox is the only alternative. The maker, callas, is who licenses its technology to Adobe for Acrobat.

Thank you for this, Dan C. My Publisher has been laggy and jerky ever since the 1.9 update. All I did was close the Paragraph Studio--and like magic, everything was pleasantly snappy again. I look forward to the update that will fix this.

Hi,
Simply select the circle, "Expand Stroke". Then select the circle and the letter, "Add".

Rodi reacted to Dan C in Affinity Publisher is slow and lags after 1.9 update.
Hi @kasper.kristensen, @Numan & @Rodi,
My apologies for the delayed response here!
We've identified an issue with the latest version of Publisher, whereby when the Paragraph Studio is visible, the app can slow down considerably.
If you hide/close this Studio panel, then the app should return to working as expected, this is why the CTRL run up can resolve this issue.
As I understand it, our devs are working to resolve this currently!
I hope this helps

Start your program with CTRL selected. you will be prompted to clear user data. I selected all as I have barely done anything that can't be figured out, YMMV.
Also, click off "enable Open CL"

Rodi reacted to MikeDuf in Apps won't launch on Win10 after Upgrade to 1.9
simply hold CTRL while clicking on the software so when it launch it will pop up a panel. Click clear and try again.
For me the app crash before this is possible (1-2 seconds into splash screen) so it won't work. But hopefully it does work for you.

This made a major difference for me! Publisher runs way better now. Thank you!

Rodi reacted to wonderings in Is Photo really up to it? Is this good enough?
I would never use Photoshop for text. Prepare your picture there and then use Publisher or even Designer for the rest.
