Rodi reacted to Serif Info Bot in Can't adjust opacity when using PANTONE swatches
The issue "Opacity cannot be changed using context toolbar fill selection if a PANTONE swatch is used." (REF: AFB-8159) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.2.0.1951".
This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Serif Info Bot to notify us.

Rodi reacted to wonderings in Variable fonts support
I can count the number of times I have used or seen variable fonts used on 1 hand. I work in print and design so get a lot of work from designer houses (not people with photoshop who call themselves designers). I think they are a great idea, but not something that drastically changes how people work in these field. Many fonts already have the gamut from light to ultra which I would think suits the vast majority of the world. Again I think variable fonts are a great idea and nice to always have options, not sure I would make such a big deal about the variable fonts not being in V2 myself.

Rodi reacted to stokerg in Following message in a 200 pages document we have reached in publisher "Dokumentendatei beschädigt, die Datei muss nun geschlossen werden"! That´s not funny, we are working for a Magazin and we need to go to print.
I'd like to think everyone would use File>Save at least once BEFORE exporting anything but yes, if it hasn't been saved as an afpub file, I'd likely need the autosave file as well. However, I suspect the problem will be related to the main IDML, so a copy of both would help.
@Heilix BlechleIf you can also upload the auto save file, which should be in the auto-save folder in this location:
~/Library/Application Support/Affinity Publisher 2/

Why would you want to do that at this time in the project? So, first thing I would do, is make sure to link pictures/art instead of embed them. IF you still have the same issue, is there a .pdf you can open? Funny enough I was very worried about Adobe nixing postscript type one fonts, but it has become a blessing for me, now files are much more cross platform. I open many .idml files in Publisher, to see how they work, and they do a pretty good job, not perfect, and when the money is on the table, it's a risky venture.

Still confused. You made a 200 pages document in Indesign? Why don't you finish it in Indesign?
Obviously there is something going wrong with the IDML import. You should ask a moderator to give you a private upload link for them to check your document.
To be clear: There is NO feature parity between Indesign and APublisher, so opening an IDML in APublisher means addtional work in APublisher.

Rodi reacted to thomaso in Wrong black values while exporting to CMYK
Just in case: whenever does not mean every export, e.g. when the export profile is different from the document profile. Then a conversion of 100 K will happen again on export – as long Affinity lacks in an export option to preserve colour values.

Rodi reacted to Pbj in Wrong black values while exporting to CMYK
I followed your suggestion in detail but still get a strange result. This time it's an other black value. There's progress, just don't know if that's good.😄
The screenshot is from the pdf after exporting the layout containing the qr-png with the K only option set exported inthe desired color profile ISO Coated v2 300.
EDIT:
Your tip was completely correct. I just forgot to uncheck the image compression in the export setup. This messed up the colours. Now colours are K Only. Thanks a ton!

Rodi reacted to Himanshu Tyagi in More usage out of Affinity Suite
Hi @Rodi, you are absolutely right the Affinity Designer and Publisher V2 both are great options for editing and doing the changes in pdf files but there are some few drawbacks as well and I am also hopeful that with new upcoming updates would bring more and more solutions. This would make Affinity Suite more useful than the Adobe CC Suite.

Rodi got a reaction from debraspicher in More usage out of Affinity Suite
So my job is production printing. Have had some success and some failures in using Affinity Suite. The huge overriding plus is it opens PDFS for editing pretty darn well. Yes, you do need the font's but that's not an impossible feat these days.
So we got a job from a client (B&W Ad for two different sizes in just black) who wanted to make edits to the pdf. Since Acrobat is not always the best pdf editor and the changes were more than slight, I decided to go for it in Affinity Publisher 2. The size the customer wanted and what they gave did not jibe, but they did have an outline rule to go by. Good. So opened directly into AP2, and it flowed as it should. Only drawback was the pdf was in "Gray" which means upon export it process out to all four (4) colors. I could only wish InDesign had search similar fill/stroke!! Made short shrift of the work.
Affinity Suite keeps getting better, and I won't let the problems (doesn't like some fonts upon output) dissuade me from using it.
Thanks Serif!!!

Rodi reacted to CasualAdventurer in AP, best way to convert from rgb to cmyk?
malcolmstone knows what he's talking about. I spent 15 years as a graphic designer in 4-color print shops. If the end product is to be printed on a press the color model needs to be CMYK, and the best way to get the results you want off the press is to use CMYK graphics\photos from start to finish. You ought to use TIFF format for bitmap files, EPS for vector formats. I know TIFF produces large file sizes since it's not compressed, but if you want to avoid modeling then it's the way to go.

Thanks for being interested

Rodi reacted to lacerto in Wrong black values while exporting to CMYK
You're welcome. The fix is actually not as straight forward as one could wish as when I tested it both with 24-bit and 8-bit (indexed) PNGs, both containing only black and white, I got different results in different situations. In one instance the resulting PNG was converted to CMYK, the black being a K value, and in another instance (in most situations) to DeviceGray. Both cases work, but when I subsequently tried this with another CMYK document, I got consistently DeviceGray values. It may depend on document history, e.g. whether a document was initially an RGB document when the PNGs were placed, or whether it was a CMYK document but using initially a different CMYK profile. Also, it may be dependent on the export method, whether an ICC profile is embedded, and whether the placed images are forced to be converted. But basically the "K-Only" feature should work, one way or another...

Rodi got a reaction from LondonSquirrel in Publiser 2 for the win, for today at least!
Had a pdf file that normalized, preflighted, trapped and imposed. Proof sent. Couldn't proof or plate. All kinds of shennanigans to fix the file. Export to .eps., Import to InDesign and export to pdf, redistill, nope. Illegal file command. Today I take the file and import it into Affinity Publisher 2, and yes, it finally worked out.
I find V2 on my pc is much more confident. Sometimes V1.1 x x would open and crash.
Great news was it took a couple of pdfs to make it just right, black type is black.
Kudos, you beat a pdf from illustrator to make it work.

Rodi reacted to DWright in Importing InDesign files: Problems with master pages and transparencies
Thank you for reporting this issue,
For the page number issue you will need to move the Master page in the layer to the top of the layers list.
For the transparent gradient issue the is being caused by a feather gradient in the idml document that Affinity Publisher is unable to read I have raised this with our QA team
you can remove the incorrect gradient and apply a new gradient

Rodi reacted to Alfred in Electronic Component Library for Affinity Designer
I don’t know of such a library specifically for Affinity Designer but there are free SVG resources readily available online. Here are a couple of links I found via a quick search just now:

I sincerely appreciate your help.

Rodi reacted to Thomahawk in Envelope warping, object-distort, perspective tool or fisheye tool?
There is really no day without having the need of such a tool. This is so basic.
What I do is, I simply go back to FreeHand and do it there. Sadly on the Mac this needs switch over to Parallels, where FreeHand still works.
Honestly I am often close to go all way back to FreeHand and leave Affinity behind - really FreeHand is over 30 years old, but it is SO MUCH BETTER THEN AFFINITY DESIGNER in every way, much more easy to use and more intuitive. The only drawbacks are that it needs Parallels to still work and it does of course not support high resolution displays.

Rodi got a reaction from lacerto in Same issue, PDF Export not good.
Lagarto, I will try that next time.
I am not knocking Affinity products. I actually have found them quite useful, and they do things that I could never get done otherwise with ID/AI.... but some of the things that should be straight forward are not.
I think what I will do next time is make duplicate copies, I think it really gets hung up on multiple copies of a pdf in a document.
Thanks for all the input.
I am optimistic and I think they will get it done at some point. Good thing is they aren't even in the radar of most printshops/design houses so they can mature the product some more. I used ID 1, 1.5
