Lagarto, I will try that next time. I am not knocking Affinity products. I actually have found them quite useful, and they do things that I could never get done otherwise with ID/AI.... but some of the things that should be straight forward are not. I think what I will do next time is make duplicate copies, I think it really gets hung up on multiple copies of a pdf in a document. Thanks for all the input. I am optimistic and I think they will get it done at some point. Good thing is they aren't even in the radar of most printshops/design houses so they can mature the product some more. I used ID 1, 1.5

Hi Walt, It is in exporting PDFs, but I believe it is a problem when the same file (multiple pages) are imported where the problem is happening. I find using AP excellent in all manners up to this point. I did not have any issues in 1.90 but since then, hit or miss. I have confirmed via Pitstop that the original files are correct in color. I am also anxious then about any color changes that may be happening upon export that are not so obvious. I am trying to get AP used as a replacement for rental software (besides price I have other issues with some of their programs as well), and it's very close, but this is a real deal breaker. I can list so many pluses of the program, I have been able to do crossover checks easier than ever. I have taken pdfs that need bleed and easily done it. It is fairly stable (considering how much is in it and it's age, it's great). I am not asking for something that no one else does, it is pretty standard and I wish Serif would really do something. I'm not slagging on the product, I tell everyone to get it. 75 bux, it's incredible. However in the importing of PDFs, fidelity needs to be maintained. It's just plain old bad that I have to utilize a product I despise because Publisher can't do what it should. In one particular job, it was going so great, items snapped in so easy, so much better, but the final outcome? Can't have it wrong.

Such a great product line, but not quite ready for the fight. I can't have process black type when the imported pdf is correct. Please Serif, fix this, it really is a make or break for real print shop production. I use and when and where I can, but thus far it is not competitive to the other "A" (not Aldus!) competitor.

I brought my version to work (as well as some other programs), because I want to be able to really knock the crap out of the program and learn it inside out in pressure situations. I have had some hiccups along the way, but it is a really great program. I am waiting for the day a customer sends a Publisher file in. I work that! So far it has both impressed and confused!

Typography in Affinity Publisher
Rodi replied to Prouvé's topic in Tutorials (Serif and Customer Created Tutorials)
Giambasta Bodoni, the excellent printer from Parma who pushed the Didot types (funny enough now mostly named "Bodonis", some of my favorites), had books littered with typos. It's print, keep looking, you find mistakes! Very well done Prouve! -
Processing out again
Rodi replied to Rodi's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Exported PDF was all wrong, don't have the fonts just trying to make an existing pdf from client to work correctly. It seems to me the issue is in adding pdf multiple times for proper panels. I do this this no problem in so many other page layout programs. Funny enough another job that I do regularly came out beautiful, 2 color job that I remove some items move others. Fortunately that job comes in with font's outlined. Before 1.91 there were really no issues as far as me exporting files with black type processing, spot colors processing. I know it's a work in progress, but in the heat of the moment I sometimes have to ditch AP for ID, which drives me nuts too! -
Have a black only file, have to make a cover of a book from elements from a bastard title an ISBN number, plus one line of type and spine. Dropping in the pdf is no problem, lays out nicely. Export to PDF and it's not black but a build. The PDF is from word, but is black, K. Also the fonts rendered wrong. This is getting frustrating. I want this to work as it ought, not changing the color of a PDF, just let it be what it is. Any ideas?

Processing of K(Black) and Spot Colors on Export

1.92 appears to have fixed the problem. I can now go on trying to use Publisher more regularly! Thank You! -
Processing of K(Black) and Spot Colors on Export
Rodi replied to Rodi's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
Did you replace each panel? One piece, it is ok, but as it is a double parallel fold, the original is in correct. Can you send me the pdf? (Job had to be done in ID as time was pressing). -

Processing of K(Black) and Spot Colors on Export
Rodi replied to Rodi's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
Attached is the link PDFs (correct, 2 Color) the AP file and the output file. Notice the page with no change is correct, but I had to make panel corrections on P1 and it does not out put correctly. I know in 1.9 I was not having this issue, as I had several files that were fine this way. Document_Problem_with_Affinity_Publisher.zip -
Hi, I work on production for print. 1.9 was working great on my windows machine for fixing up files for folding panels (glorious job!). I have done this in Qxd and ID forever. On 1.9.1 I am having issues. I have the originating PDF (2 Colors PANTONE + K. I adjust the fold panels and have copied and pasted the pdf to fit correctly. Side two, I adjusted in Pitstop (creating a little bleed of one side and extending some boxes to fit. It should be fine. PDFs are two color. Job is two color. Export PDF and it's process, on page one only. Side issue as well When I copy and past the size of the items has been not right. It's a little frustrating, but I'm trying to get Affinity to be the shops lone page layout.

Was not an issue before the 1.91 update. Windows 10 I have PDFs that are in need of editing, I open and or import them into Publisher/Designer. Do the edits, usually slight resizes, maybe one panel is moved. Well, I always check that the type is black that should be black. Lo and behold, since 1.91 if I make any edits the type processes out, not good for commercial printing! This is a trouble spot for me as I have started to use the programs as a replacement of that other suite.... Please help!

Apps won't launch on Win10 after Upgrade to 1.9
Rodi replied to Walter Raczynski's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
Did you start with the "CTRL" button and reset? That could be it as well. Each update has its share of issues.- 271 replies

I use a trilogy of programs to be rid of Acrobat (well, I have an old v7 pro, but it's dustbin material). I use Qoppa PDF Studio Pro 2019, Callas PDF Toolbox and until recently SoftmakerFlexiPDF, which I will purchase when it goes on sale. In total, all three have much more than Acrobat (I use Acrobat DC at work) but none have all of what Acrobat does. PDFToolbox is amazing for a lot of professional kind of PDF work that needs to get done, it is however rules based and not very interactive. Qoppa is amazing, it does a ton of cool things. One of my favorites is the crop tool, which unlike Acrobat DC, does not try to rasterize pages. It also has a great basic imposition program, allows for reversing of pages very easily and I can get most locked PDFs unlocked, it's pretty trick. Softmaker has the "edit item" that is great for many things, also changing colors is doable.

Using Callas pdfToolbox with Publisher
Rodi replied to KipV's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I stay away from subscription software as much as possible. I have bought and regularly use, Affinity Publisher for PDF editing (lost causes, but it's really done great) I also use Softmaker Flexi PDF (subscription was 35 bux for a year), and I love Qoppa PDF Studio, it has several things that make it incredible, including editing and saving password protected PDFs (a cinch!) reversal of pages, and general editing, the Imposing feature is as good as EFI Fiery at 1/50th of the cost. Recently purchased PDFToolbox 12. It's a huge program, am trying to get it to do several things, including process to spot (I do prepress for an envelope printing and files come in all sorts of kaka). What I am trying to do with it is make the program respond to "Spotify" up to 4 common spot colors. I do a lot of making spot colors on common plate (jet presses have the ability). The "create" bleed is fantastic!! The white background builder is pretty awesome too. It has an imposition program too, breaking reader spreads is a great feature. I like the fact that it is stand alone program. PDFToolbox 12 is so huge, I have yet to scratch the surface. Affinity Publisher, I get a particular kind of file that is a pain in the neck to get into production. Two (2) color job, file never sent to size. I open in AP 1.8x, re size the document and spread to the correct size, then I move it around until it's in the exact right place and for two sided versions do the same I then create bleeds and spot color change. I have cut production from half an hour with the old way to 15 minutes for two sided 8 minutes for single sided.- 14 replies
