Would be super helpful  if we would have a special rasterize live filter   so we could link "pixel content" of a host layer to somewhere since it works for rasterized pixels only.    That way we could probably use linking without actually rasterizing  (image), (linked) and (embedded)   layers  keeping them live and  easily replaceable.

Watch both links. Gimp v2.10.28 gamma is perfect, Pass my test.
this modification to give more space to darker values does lead to wonky color maths when mixing the colors.
We can see this with the following experiment:

Left: Colored circles blurred in a regular sRGB space. Right: Colored circles blurred in a linear space.
Colored circles, half blurred. In a gamma-corrected environment, this gives an odd black border. In a linear environment, this gives us a nice gradation.
This also counts for color smudge brush:

That’s right, the ‘muddying’ of colors as is a common complaint by digital painters everywhere, is in fact, a gamma-corrected colorspace mucking up your colors. If you had been working in LAB to avoid this, be sure to try out a linear rgb color space.

PLUS ONE for this, web browsers will support this from September and I would love to convert all online images to this as it stands an AVIF image of the same quality is 10 times smaller than a  jpg and that would super speed up any webpages which  will effect google seo rankings.

    Hello,
Support for the AVIF file format would be nice to see as web browsers will start supporting it. It would be nice to read and write images in that format.
    Best regards!

    Hi there!

First of all, I really love the beta of Affinity Photo!!! Just played around with it a little bit and noticed that it is not possible to resize the document with percentage values(or I missed it) - only with pixel value. For me this is a big thing because I'm always trying out sizes with the zoom and than resize the document according to it.

    Keep it up!

    cheers

I agree with eobet on this. Every image processing software I've used until today had the option of resizing an image by percents. I never had the need to resize by yards or meters. Apart from that it would be very easy to add rescaling by percent. It's been four years since this thread was opened. I have no idea why Affinity doesn't bother to add this feature.

No, I want the entry in the drop down list.
I don't want a new user (or someone I teach) have to go to a forum and ask people to find out a hidden method. I want it explicitly shown in the interface.

    Status: Beta
    Purpose: Improvements and fixes.
    Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo
    Mac App Store: Not submitted
    Download ZIP: Download
    Auto-update: Pending

    Hello,
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the first build of Affinity Photo 1.10.2 for macOS.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
This beta is an incremental update to the 1.10.1 version recently released to all customers (although it still installs parallel to the released version, as described above). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.

    Affinity Photo Team

    Changes Since 1.10.1

    - Performance improvements for all integrated GPUs. The benchmark version has been changed to 11020, as results are no longer comparable to results from previous builds.
    - Fixed artefacts when using the legacy shadows & highlights filter.
    - Further fixes to the patch tool in LAB mode.
    - Improve panorama stitching when source images have unusual metadata.
    - Improvements to aligning layers by stars.
    - Improvements to astro stacking when images contain large stars.
    - Fixed incorrect import of linear burn blend mode from PSD files.
    - Fixed issues with certain DNG files in the develop persona.
    - Fixes crashes opening certain EXR files.
    - Improved export quality when document contains certain live filters.
    - Fixed crashes with pattern layers.
    - Fixed saturation blend mode issues in 16bit RGB.
    - Assorted other fixes and improvements.
    - Localisation improvements.

I just hope that Affinity Designer is currently being developed and that the current development warrants a paid update in the near future. Considering the background of a far-sighted business policy, I would understand the apparent slow development.

    Hi Rincewind,
I've filed and bumped a couple more report/logs regarding the issues with the Blur, Sharpen and Median Blur tools quite recently. From the failing brush previews (they can be switched off in Preferences, User Interface section) subtle output with hardware acceleration, opacity slider being ignored (Blur Tool) and lack of progressive effect/spreading when painting over the same area with a single passage, all of them are logged to be looked at. Thank you for your feedback. Much appreciated.

yeah, I kind of agree. Just yesterday  tried to  make a composition of   CG rendered  things in APhoto and make a few hand painted strokes  here and there.   It's kind of works with layer linking . erase groups as dynamic live masks and symbol containers used like those chain links in Photoshop.
it does work  sort of.   But today,  just a next day,   I  already struggle  to figure out  how the whole layer construction  I did yesterday works .   Too many container layers unchecked to select  and too many links .  Found myself thinking how much clear it could be if  a half of the doc would be  linked nodes . For dynamic masks   maybe  or inside live filters as containers.

I seem to have made a mistake of switching to Affinity products a while ago with not enough research. Now I keep reading 5 years old forum threads requesting some of the most basic features present in vector graphic software, yet half a decade later still missing from Affinity Designer. Is Gimp with its horrendous UI really the only reasonable choice against Adobe scamming practices?  This is extremely disappointing.

I think. The node is a hobby of a few people. This also applies to the music industry. In the field of music, there are only a few simple nodes. There is no excellent thing. Excellent like FL Studio.
Software developers gave us Apple. So we use Apple. Sadly. Here, there is no freedom. Unless you learn programming. This will spend a lot of time.
You ask the node. Shout developer add node support. This is what you can do.

Thanks for short review .  It's so amazing we see so much of a variety in 3d animation area doing  so much progress during past couple decades  and nothing really good in 2d image area.   Nothing really flexible and convenient .
I personally like Corel Painter   but gosh how ancient it is.      A soft having  a depth channel   and they  never cared to even make it exportable  or be useful for anything beyond fake impasto effect.    Could be Zbrush rival , at least 2,5d part of it.

ps. Substance Designer has GP acceleration of a sort  Works  faster in dx11 mode. Still it's so monstrously robotic and artist-unfriendly . so lacking in ability to make subtle manual touches very necessary  to make any kid of art   I hate it every day

Wow. What a list.    Have you tried them all?    Which ones are live and developing and worth trying?    So far Graphite got my attention as seam having layers too.   I am using Substance Designer currently and believe  a best image editing soft should be a hybrid  , both layers, brushes and nodes.    While Substance Disigner  does have bitmap node with brushes too they are abysmal.

Aftemplate reacted to Finch in AMD Radeon RX Hardware Acceleration
I've no issues posting to a new thread..  I posted this HERE because there were OTHER people reporting issues not only with 4000 series AMD GPUs (seeing as the initial comment specifically states 5000 series)  but another one with an Nvidia GPU as well..
AMD may very well have said they "know about and are working on a fix" but we've all heard this response from many companies and in many (not all) cases, the problem is not rectified until the developers who contacted one of the largest, and right now by far the most popular, CPU & GPU manufacturers.
If you're reporting on 5000 series AMD GPUs..  and you have complaints from people running 4000 series, as well as Nvidia cards, then as I originally stated, perhaps there is something that needs to be done on Affinity's side as they seem to be the common denominator when other GPUs are experiencing similar problems.
And I have no problem leaving hardware acceleration disabled, as I already mentioned I have to do if I want to use the software in my initial comment, but this is exactly why I will not make the switch from to Affinity Photo from Photoshop.. Again.. I absolutely love Affinity Designer and have no issues with it whatsoever (as you pointed out they use different hardware acceleration.. perhaps the answer lies in that statement alone)
Though I've no issues gladly saying that if I was within my window of getting a refund for Photo and I had not got it for only $25 during a 50% off sale, I would have already been requesting it. A quick google search proves Affinity is much more focused on Mac than Windows because the number of complaints about software performance is significantly higher..  Let's face it.. developing software for Windows is not as easy as Mac OS due to the extensive range of available hardware you need to support when compared to the handful of configuration options when developing for Mac.
My apologies for simply trying to add to this post that a problem relating to hardware acceleration may not just be limited to AMD 5000 series... At least now I know not to even try and contribute any bug reports I've experienced.

I'm running a Windows laptop with an Nvidia 1660Ti and I have to disable hardware acceleration if I want Affinity Photo to run for more than 1-2 minutes before crashing.. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, changed driver, and even formatted my system..  problem still persists and through MULTIPLE versions of Affinity Photo...  (I've been having to disable it since version 1.8 to avoid this)..  so it has gone through MULTIPLE Nvidia Studio Drivers as well...
I think Affinity is pointing the finger in the wrong direction "Contacting AMD about their drivers" when obviously so many other people, not even using AMD 5000 GPU's, are experiencing problems with hardware acceleration enabled..  The common denominator in all of this is Affinity's approach to how THEY are accessing cards for hardware acceleration in Windows if I was to guess.. I mean let's face it, their software runs beautifully on Macs most of the time, so I'm of the strong opinion their focus is primarily on Mac..  I'm honestly just glad I've never canceled my Adobe subscription because I can't rely on their software alone to handle my work and I probably wouldn't have even started experimenting with it had it not been for a 50% off sale where I purchased all 3 applications and a number of brush packs..
Affinity Designer is a completely different story when it comes to performance on my laptop..  I can leave hardware acceleration enabled and work inside the program for HOURS without it having any issues whatsoever.. this too has been the case through MULTIPLE versions of Affinity, multiple Nvidia Studio drivers, several full system restores, etc..  again.. making me think this is a problem inside the Affinity Photo application..

@walt.farrell I was hoping there might be some progress to report, other than waiting on AMD, particularly since GPU acceleration seems to be fine for my card in other graphics programs.  Might Serif be working the issue from their end as well?  Just a thought.  Mind you, this has very little affect on my use of AP.  I just get hopeful when I see a new release.
    Kind Regards.

Mark, I have a couple of comments.   First, is topaz Labs uses hardware acceleration for their AI products and it works on AMD GPUs.  Why is affinity Photo not able to do it while theirs does?  Are they using different hardware functions?
Second, Topaz also uses Open VINO acceleration for CPU processing which is much faster than without it.   It works on AMD and Intel CPUs.  Can you use this to speed up the processing of CPUs?

Nowhere, because, as you say, it won't. All the 1.8.5 code is still there (we call it software rendering) and there is a new hardware rendering OpenCL code-path. If you turn OpenCL off (or if it is disabled for your hardware, then going back to 1.8.5 is simply throwing away all the new features and fixes, it will not be faster.

Aftemplate reacted to Mark Ingram in AMD Radeon RX Performance Problems
Since the release of 1.9.0, we have become aware of performance problems for owners of AMD Radeon RX graphics cards. This is due to the new hardware acceleration feature which is enabled by default in 1.9.0. We are actively investigating this problem, but while we do this, we recommend trying Photo with Hardware Acceleration disabled (in Preferences | Performance). We apologise for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience while we investigate.
If you are experiencing these performance problems, and you do have an AMD Radeon RX graphics card, please could you go to Help | Benchmark, then press Run Benchmark, and take a screenshot of the results, and post them to this thread (there is no need to record a benchmark with OpenCL disabled). Alternatively just reply with the exact model of graphics card that you're using. There is no need to make additional threads in the forum describing performance problems if you have an AMD Radeon RX, and you still have Hardware Acceleration enabled. Any descriptions of the performance problems that you are seeing would also be useful. Thanks again.
