It's no reverse engineering, you just take Wine logs to detect missing APIs in order to implement them. If that would have been illegal, would have been taken care by MS long ago. Wine just bridges.

This thread has been flagged numerous times over the years but more so over the past month. I don't want to give out warnings or lock this thread but I wanted to clarify Affinity’s position regarding some of the topics that are the cause of heated exchanges which get subsequently reported to moderators.

Affinity do not have an issue with users trying to get our apps working on Linux, as long as users are aware that Affinity won’t be offering any support or advice on how to get our apps working or how to improve performance via WINE etc.
Feel free to use this thread as a way of sharing information that may be useful to other Affinity users trying to get the apps running on Linux but as we’ve stated numerous times, we have no plans to bring our apps to Linux, so it’s pointless arguing and getting frustrated with each other.

I would also like to state that if you’re not a fan of Linux or have no intention/interest in wanting/trying to get our apps working on Linux, perhaps you should avoid this thread completely.

No idea about Steinberg, MS Office I don't need as LibreOffice has all I need. Also RawTherapee or DarkTable and Hugin are fine, I just need a better panorama application and Photoshop was so good so far. The irony is Photoshop works fine under Linux, its integration with the logon is the problem, technically, to run it under Wine.

Actually I don't need Affinity products anymore as I can use equivalents already. I was just pointing to another failed logic.

The number of Affinity or Adobe users is less than Windows + MacOS + Android users, probably as much.

@LondonSquirrel, don't twist what I say. The problem is using a core system component which is missing from Wine, not Photoshop.

Photoshop works, other component is the problem, that is part of Windows. Once that is implemented in Wine, Photoshop works fine under. Unfortunately, Affinity Photo does not.

I certainly hope so! I see no reason to insist that much against a Linux version from a private entity.

Actually we came here to ask for a Linux version. It's our right to ask. You are here just to discourage those people. Linux has advanced in those 5 years, although it was just reliable then as it is now. You may say what you want, this won't change the facts.
A question: why nVidia open-sourced its drivers? Try imagine the implications of this.

Well, let's stop making allegations. For instance, I don't buy the argument that claims Affinty would put at risk its current customers while making Linux versions while ignoring the Windows/Apple/Android implementations. I'd give more credit to Affinity. If you don't trust they are serious about tit, why buying their products? Let's stick with our OS of choice. As Linux users we didn't come here saying "Stop making Windows (or whatever OS) apps!". I think nobody would risk his living for an OS. We can use Linux reliably and this won't change until we decide to. It's also obvious that we are proficient with Linux, so there is no need to explain us it's not (well... there were rather statements than proofs, but as long as we use Linux, we know the issues and how to circumvent them).
    Sorry if I've upset somebody.

I use RawTherapee and it's great. They are also very responsive as they've created camera profiles in a day for me.

You've made me break my "three posts to a thread" rule. It's more of a guideline really but helps to keep me sane.
This thread has really gone off the rails. What started as a simple request has suddenly turned into some quite passive aggressive insults.
Serif had been publishing software for over thirty years. I've bought all of their software for at least twenty years and always found them to be exceedingly professional and capable.
The comment that they somehow don't have the bottle to "take a risk" is ridiculous. It's easy to be brave when you're betting with someone else's money, resources and reputation. None of use have any idea what analysis they've done on this and so we have no idea how much of a risk they would be taking.
To say that they've somehow painted themselves into a corner by incompetently writing code that can't be ported is pure conjecture as well. We don't even know for sure what tools/engine they've used. This isn't Serif's first rodeo, they've been at this a long time.
Any attempt to chide, or otherwise shame them into doing what you want won't work. What do you expect them to do at the next strategy meeting? Port the software to Linux because someone on the forums said they can't do it or that they don't have the bottle.
Try to keep it civilised (I'm english, that is spelled correctly).

True, because that is Linux, as effect of being free and open, a testing bench and a place for debate. Also wrong due to so many misconceptions I see here.
I won't take one by one now, again and again. But packing is not an issue at all. For example, there is a closed source third party LEGO modelling tool, LDCad that uses accelerated graphics and comes as a sh installer. It simply worked for me everywhere, so it's possible. It's also one man's effort, although not simple at all.
No need for snaps, flatpaks, rpms, whatever option like those.
    So it's possible.
On the other hand, remember Oracle. You peek one of their supported OSes, like RedHat, Mandriva, CentOS and so on, at the time was launched, and do the specific steps to setup and you are good to go.
I bet if Affinity releases the apps under one or few specific distros, we'll jump to one of those and do our jobs happily.

I use Linux because proprietary OSes are pushing things to me, like specific software I never use. I remove those, they come back or render the OS unusable - although should not. That is not all, they simply meter me. They have decided to know my habits and push some commercial to me - that never succeeded. Anyway, during this time, the computer may use a lot of its resources for that. It is not in my interest. Why would allow some software to consume my paid power and Internet connection for their needs? Also, I have paid for it $100-300. I pay to stress my computer while I may need it for something else. I would not accept that even it the OS is free (like Android, for example).
Right now I run my Linux OS with the exact apps I need, much lighter and faster than Windows 10 on the same hardware. Also, don't agree to their policy that patronize me like they know better. For instance, many times I've had hard times - as IT specialist - to make Windows upgrade and run again just because I have used a custom dual boot tool.
Now Windows 11 is advertised as nicer. Well, KDE looked like that years ago, not to say it can look however I consider.
I am sure, if you take the Windows OS separately, its core from the bloatware, it's neat and fast! But I can't stand the way it presents itself these days.
On Linux I have, let's say, so much freedom I've had on Windows 7 before, and more!
Next, regarding the users, if some asks for a Linux version of some Affinity product, it means that person won't use it to build apps, isn't it?
There are many applications to use Affinity products under Linux. From gaming graphics to movies production and simple 3d and web. Those fields are pretty well represented under Linux. Photography and publishing, for example,do not pay under Linux because they are not there yet.
