I'd like to add my +1 & agree with other commenters
Honestly Adobe has destroyed the UX of PS over the last years, and it starts to feel like Illustrator is slowly following suite. After 21 years, I've come down to actively looking for any alternative that checks the core feature set I need, feels good to work with, and isn't OS-locked.
2.0 checks most of those boxes and gets quite a few things down even better than the industry standard - but with functionality like the blend tool nowhere in sight, it makes it impossible for me to fully switch. Otherwise It'd be a no-brainer. Affinity's price point is remarkably accessible and a tremendous deal for hobbyists, but it's peanuts for business/professionals. I'm sitting here, cash in hand, happy to pay you twice or thrice the current asking price, not once but yearly. More than worth it.
But if the software is missing some core vector manipulation features that are essential for my workflow, I sadly can't, as much as I would very very much love to. (And I know, "essential" is still subjective for things like the blend tool, but in the end I want to get away from Apps that require me to compromise on my workflow, not to trade them for other compromises)
----------
Some added constructive input, since the updates sound like this feature might very well still be mid development:
The blend tool in Illustrator is actually pretty basic, when it comes down to its full functionality. The new radial tool is an improvement over plain manual rotate-duplicate workflow, but also rather limited. Both are important functions though, but Ai also just provides a limited, bare minimum in the end.
What I would've loved to see for more than a decade, is a vector editing software that approaches parametric path instancing & manipulation in a similar way to how the MoGraph Cloner works in Cinema4D. A multifunctional node that lets you define step-instancing between 2 or more objects, control their distribution, alignment, per-step-transformations, and provides a toolset of stackable modifiers that enable further transforms of the instances with simple logic, noise maps, and even simple scripts.
I sometimes actually end up bouncing my vectors, doing all the parametric/blending stuff in C4D, and re-exporting those splines to Illustrator (as good as possible at least). It's a sucky & non-streamlined workflow, but the C4D Cloner is so powerful that sometimes it's worth the effort, or even the only solution aside manual construction.
If such an approach would be feasible and achievable, I might actually forget other vector editing tools even exist

So how does one convert a sketch made using the vector brush tool into a vector shape then?
There surely must be a way. If not then that is disappointing indeed. Why is it called a Vector Brush Tool if it's raster?
...
So basically I have to sketch using the pencil tool and set the properties? Struggling a bit with that. Say I want a curved line that starts and ends with a point (eg. engraving #64) I can set the pencil stroke to draw that and then expand stroke. Is that possible, because all I seem to be able to do is draw a basic line set at whatever stroke width and then change it after in the preferences.

So brushes are not actually vevtor objects I learn. That's quite disappointing, unfortunately.

Super duper!
Many thanks for the further investigation — top work.

Many thanks for providing all of this for me, it's certainly helpful!
I can confirm I have been able to replicate this issue here, interestingly when using an external monitor that is higher resolution that the internal monitor, this does not occur - but enabling Scaling (More Space) on the external monitor with the higher resolution then shows this issue.
With a monitor that is lower resolution than the internal monitor, the issue is shown when scaling is not applied to either.
Therefore I have logged this as a bug with our developers to be resolved in a future update. I hope this helps

Just replying here as I've been fighting this issue as well and I'm glad to see that you guys are tackling it. In the interest of providing more information, I'm not able to save to a local OWC RAID array (Using an Accelsior 4M2 https://www.owc.com/solutions/accelsior-4m2). Windows 11. Error message:
"Save failed because the file could not be written to."

h.ozboluk reacted to Qeon in Save failed because the file could not be written to
I just got this error message: "Save failed. Changes to file are not allowed."
And when I clicked OK the document crashed.
The Publisher file are stored locally. It seems that I am getting a lot a different errors when saving now and it feels not safe to work on something when I know it could be some error anytime and I loose my progress.

@firstdefence
Thanks for your hints. It is easyer to simulate the effect than to find a useful textur. I´m playing with some adjustments and settings and it works nice
@R C-R
I hope it was a nice party When i drink a bit to much, i understand sometimes somethings wrong too and and that's why I got a slapped in the face from a woman one time
Thanks for you explanation about mezzotint.
But it would be nice that a filter for this will be added in the Future.

Glad to see more transparency regarding development. A blend tool would be great for sure.

I can see Serif confirmed on Instagram that they were starting work on a blend tool and hoped to have it ready this year, though to be fair to Serif I wouldn't hold them to that timeline. Does seem like they're aware of the ask and are working on it which is great
This is from the comments in the Mesh Warp and perspective live filters reel they did to showcase 2.1 before it was released.

Hoping for a miracle: please make the blend tool happen in AD!
In the meantime I am switching back to AI and hold the update to V2

h.ozboluk reacted to 2ddpainter in Blend tool in Designer
ok then let's say way back
as I read, the wish exists since 2014
my first Coreldraw was Coreldraw 7 (Pc), that is from 1996
has a blend tool
more than 20 years back
Magix Graphics Designer (Pc only) is from 1995
( formerly Xara ) has a blend tool from the beginning
more than 20 years back
I would also be happy if Affinity would add a
Blend-Tool to the Designer, but I am still wondering

Which ones, other than VectorStyler (the only such app I seem to be able to find)?
CorelDraw - introduced in version 2 InkScape offers an extension with a similar capability but it is not "live" - that is, it does not update when you move one of the original objects - and it seems to have some bugs... Vectornator - no such tool Not sure when it was added to Illustrator, but it does not appear to have been in 1.0: -

Although I totally understand the need for a blend tool,
or rather I'm wondered that it hasn't been installed yet.
I am surprised at the unstoppable optimism of some people
that a tool that has been wanted since 2014 will soon be included.
And that it would be even better than in other programs
where it was included from the beginning.
Well, I still like to be surprised.
But I can't share that optimism.

h.ozboluk reacted to BarbaravdZ in Blending Different Shapes
In illustrator I used to "Blending Different Shapes" al lot: draw 2 different shapes and than morph the one into the other using a specified number of steps. I can not find this tool in Affinity Designer. Can someone please link me to the tutorial of the corresponding tool?
Thanks!

h.ozboluk reacted to rui_mac in Blend tool in Designer
Maybe, with the scripting abilities, we could implement some sort of blending between shapes.
But, I know that, if Serif implemented it as a proper tool, it would make it amazing. Even better than the one on FreeHand, Illustrator or Corel.

Totally agree. The pixel persona and the use of blurs and the transparency tool. The gradient mesh tool was great when it first came out like 20 years ago but today there are far better and quicker ways to achieve even better results. The gradient mesh tool was also unforgiving and destructive. Aka the Gradient "Mess" tool.

Those interested may wish to continue supporting the blend tool in the linked topic, as it is not in the archive and therefore also more explicitly related to V2.

h.ozboluk reacted to S1monSays in Blending shapes
To be honest, I was actually a little bit shocked when I found out that there is no morph/blend/tween function implemented in AD. I mean it's a fundamental function in all vector programs I encountered over the years: Aldus Freehand (later Adobe Freehand) had it, CorelDraw does, AI of course and even CAD packages offer it these days. What's worse is that people have apparently been telling Serif since 2015 that this function is a must. That's EIGHT YEARS!
I must say that I am sometimes truly baffled about the number of significant shortcomings in the designer application (array function, aligning objects along a curve (w/o the text path workaround), proper implementation of boolean functions (one that's not producing 2 useless shapes and 3 random artefacts when your cutting object is a closed topology), perspective adjustments of shapes/groups etc. are other known deficits that simply leave me speechless). I mean, that's just simple, basic stuff that's still not there!
Correct me if I am wrong but I am under the impression that the software is mostly being built by young programmers with no first-hand knowledge of the established workflows that are in place across the creative industry... if that's the case, then the product managers really need to up their game and start looking into an improved development process like the co-creation approach you find in the development of the Blender rendering/modelling application. (about me: industrial designer & design manager and team lead in the consumer industry for 25+ years).
When V2 came out, one of our designers yelled: "Designer V2 - now with basic functions that almost work!" (I understand the frustration, as management had forced the creative team to make the switch from Adobe to Affinity, promising them a mature product environment and a smooth workflow... yeah, right.)

Sad to say, but if I had stayed waiting for this development to happen, I would be living on the streets.
Luckily I'm back in advertising using tools that do have Blend tool (not that I'm happy about returning to POS conglomerates).
So, what was the talk about "great things going to happen"? Looks to me this project is in limbo.

Hi Chris, @Chris B
then please forward me the staff member who has influence or forward this message to him/her/they, first of all ash should know about the urgency
see, we are all here to make a better product (we are all artists/designers who have to satisfy clients and customers too), but if the policy is to ignore major requests which now lasts for years, then people also will resign to support the spirit which is (was) present from the start, so
being aware, that you have lot on your mind, so are we
best regards
