wtrmlnjuc reacted to GarryP in Toggle layer FX on and off from layer icon
I only very rarely use Blend Ranges so I’m not the best person to argue against what you’ve said about them.
Personally I prefer to see as much of the layer name as I can – I sometimes have long layer names – while minimising the width of the panel but we may have differences on that matter, and that’s fine. Just two different ways of looking at the same thing.
I thought about trying a different grey/white for the whole icons to show inactivity and I don’t think that would work well in the light UI, but I can understand your concern about the distraction. Maybe a grey line instead of a red one?

wtrmlnjuc reacted to Murfee in Toggle layer FX on and off from layer icon
Hi Garry, if the on off tick only appeared when FX were applied and was unobtrusive like the FX icon then I would welcome this, if there was also a control option in the FX panel for this to show if the user wanted it to. It would also dissapear when no FX are selected in the main panel.
This would achieve the quick toggle that was requested, a single click to turn all effects off or on.
I would also really appreciate it if this was taken a step further and add the same functionality to blend ranges. It would make it so much easier to see exactly what has been applied to a layer and easily toggle off or on. This is especially useful when you are working with multiple layers.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to scrbl in Arm processors
Hi,
Except for HPDT (High Performance Desktop) Segment (AMD has taken the performance, efficiency, and and price-performance crown now, and Intel is just less stuff for more cost), Everything (and Everyone) else IS moving to ARM.
Apple has its iPhone, and and iPad segments on Custom-ARM chipsets, and soon Macs, the and MacOS will be transitioning to Apple-designed Custom-ARM chipsets. That's a boatload of the "Creative/Content/Arts" Device Segment.
Microsoft is, with the introduction of the Microsoft-Designed Custom-Arm SQ1 Chipset in the Surface Pro X running an ARM64 compiled version of Windows 10, the upcoming Android-based Surface Duo will likely have either a Snapdragon (Qualcomm ARM Chipset) (likely an 8cx or the Microsoft-Designed Custom-ARM SQ1 Chipset)...
Future versions of Windows 10 (based on CoreOS and having better operability with a Read-only OS, the and Sandboxex App Environments) will also be on ARM64 natively.
So, let's see if Apple is moving to a let's say 90% ARM Chipset based device ecosystem, Microsoft is transitioning Windows and future-facing devices to ARM64, and "the rest" of the world's devices that don't run AMD/Intel x86-64 are ALSO running ARM64 on ARM-based Chipsets, shouldn't Serif ensure that ALL OF THOSE DEVICES can run a version of Affinity (Suite) apps on them?
Otherwise, why bother?
Serif does have a bit of time, but the Surface Pro X (first ARM64/Custom ARM Chipset based Surface device running Windows On ARM) has launched, the Surface Duo isn't launching until Holiday 2020, we don't know if the Surface Neo will run on ARM, but AMD, and or Intel, and the Surface Pro X is the first in a "Category Example" for PC Makers of a 2 in 1 Convertible PC running Windows On ARM natively on ARM64 on an ATM Chipset, and signaling that their iterations are now welcome, but and expected.
One of the 2 new "Dual Screen" category of Surface Devices will at least run Android on ARM, future Microsoft and PC devices will be running Windows On ARM and do so natively compiled for ARM and ARM64.
Samsung. They already have a new ARM based Laptop running Windows On ARM. Their Android Phones run on Samsung-designed Custom-ARM Exynos, and and Qualcomm-designed Snapdragon ARM-based Chipsets. Their S Pen Stylus-equipped (4096 to 8192 levels of pressure styluses) Note series is huge, but and a huge number of stylus-equipped devices to take advantage of for Serif, and the Tab S series of S Pen stylus-equipped Android-based Tablets... And soon with the Surface Duo, the Android Tablets with Dual Screens that can leverage the Surface Pen or Surface Pen X On ANDROID!
For Serif to ignore the very fertile ecosystem developing for ARM would just be a titanic failure of leadership and engineering.
Besides, the Affinity (Suite)/Photo is almost missing the GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY to position itself as THE premiere Photo Editing Solution on Android (with whichever Stylus the artist prefers: Apple Pencil, Surface Pen (X) (all the protocol-compliant Third Party Styluses that are compatible with the Surface Pen besides Wacom's Styluses), S Pen in many iterations...
I think it would be foolish for Serif to miss such a timely opportunity.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to fde101 in Arm processors
It already runs on iPad which is ARM-based.
There are rumors that future Macs will switch to ARM processors so they might be forced into it on the Mac platform.
Right now there are limitations regarding supporting ARM processors on Windoze due to the UI toolkit they are using not working on 64-bit ARM processors. There was discussion about this on another thread. Because of that issue, if you ever see ARM support for Windoze, it will probably be a while as they may need to recreate the UI using another toolkit, which could be a fair bit of work.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to luispedrofonseca in [AD] Isolation Mode
I understand that the features are decided by the dev team.
What I don't understand is why after so much time we still don't know if this has been at least considered, if it's totally out of question or any other "official" stand on this feature.
For the past 3 years, you've been suggesting the same solution to anyone that asks about it, while that "solution" is really not an alternative at all.
Sorry for the rant, I know you're not the one to blame, but it's a bit annoying that this has been ignored for such a long time.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to valcoholic in [AD] Isolation Mode
I've been among the very first buyers of AD when it initially released a long time ago yet always had to go back to illustrator when trying to really get into it as there was always something that demanded me to workaround a habit that just was in my veins. I understand that you can't just copy everthing from a competitor's product in order to really stand out, but there just are some things, like a layer panel, the position of a tools palette, artboards, that can please mean very fundamental demands for how an application works or just feel like the most intuitive way to get to a solution.
When I once upon a time requested here, that the pen-tool should be adjustable while drawing by hitting the spacebar to reajust a path on the fly, someone of the mods answered in a way like this wouldn't be necessary and is just a very individual request.
Still they added it ever since and for me it's like one major thing that would keep me from drawing anything inside AD as its way more precise and faster than drawing a wrong shape and correct it later.
Same thing is the case here. The lack of the isolation mode is a much bigger deal to me. The abiilty to click through nested and overlapping elements is nice, but far from a solution. You don't have to call it isolation mode, but it's not even something that only illustrator does. You can find it in Cinema 4D as well and why shouldn't you? It opens the possibility to really focus working on a detail, be quicker with selection or generally see how an element would look like a separate object on the fly. There are many reasons that make such a mode kinda crucial and it somehow hurts to see how great AD has grown especially with 1.8.1, yet still I couldn't just work as fluid as in other applications due to details like this one.
Again — I do understand that you don't wanna be some (nicer looking) AI clone. But especially on smaller screens (like the iPad) this would help so much.
So I really just can fall on my knees and pray for this implementation at some point.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to El Calvin in [AD] Isolation Mode
Guys at least give us a button to lock everything else. which we can combo with your isolation mode.
Or simply fade all the layers that are locked. this can be a good combo with ' Lock everything else button'

wtrmlnjuc got a reaction from Vladimir Krstic in Support for keyboard and mouse/trackpad
I’d like the option. Besides, that’s why I bought a 12.9” in the first place.

wtrmlnjuc got a reaction from HuniSenpai in Will Designer ever have tracing capabilities
I use tracing mainly for adding stressed/textural elements to my graphics work. It’s also helpful for getting rough approximations of real shapes or images you want to block out on the art board. And for those very edge cases of not being able to find the proper typeface. It’s not a top priority feature for me but I find myself missing it from time to time. That said, it has been 2 years since I’ve first seen it requested on these forums and I’m wondering what the progress on it is like beyond “it’s not ready yet”.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to Sponka in [Implemented] Data merge
Hello, one more vote for "data merge" tool like in InDesign. I use this function mostly for designing business cards and small catalogs, labels for boxes etc ... Everything, that have same desing and elements, that change always on same places and can be read frome some kind of database.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to Harry.Rigby in Footnotes/Endnotes
Another vote for footnotes and endnotes. They are there in PagePlus. It seems cross referencing has been added to the new version; this is one of the reasons I didn't upgrade from PP - footnotes is the other. Essential for a technical publication.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to Pyanepsion in Footnotes/Endnotes
Hi, J@HWC.
Yeah? When my new client realized that putting footnotes rather than end of section notes would cost him an extra €220, he quickly changed his mind. Having said that, I'm looking forward to the feature coming.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to velarde in Offset Path + Shape Builder Tool
Hello.
I know these two functions have been asked before and some people question them ( specially the Shape Builder Tool) but I found a quick video that shows them working together.
I think these are the only two things I'm missing from Illustrator . These two tools are pretty much essential for Logo and Brand Designers (which I'm sure are a big market )
Hope they are added to the road map soon , now that you are working on the improved convert to path function.
Thanks

wtrmlnjuc reacted to sujithta in SELECT SIMILAR & OBJECT TRACING
It will be an awesome feature if you put a "Selection method according to attribute"
which means when we need to Select Same color (Fill or Stroke), same opacity, or same appearance. It is so much helpful after tracing an image to select a range of colors. When working on a flyer or packaging design for production selecting similar color or select strokes that have same thickness or fill color to change together all those needs select with attribute option.
Consider a special tool for those selection purpose with a bunch of option to rectify and narrowing selection range or Add all those features to the Move/ Selection tool.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to OdFori in Keep layer isolated (visually as well as performance wise)
Okay so I need this desperately.
I want to be able to isolate an item like you do with alt-clicking on a layer. But I want it to keep being isolated so I can work on that layer/group/symbol. This way I would (or should), for example isolate a symbol in a heavy document and work on it without performance lag caused by the updating of all the symbols.
Now when I select a subobject of an isolated object I immediately go out of isolation mode.
Should be great if this was implemented.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to Kal in Workspace customization improvements
This is a long-standing request from many users. It is perplexing that such a standard (and one would think, simple to implement) feature would be ignored for so long. As user @Samoreen said on another thread:
These kind of issue serves to illustrate my love-hate relationship with Affinity products. I absolutely LOVE that we have a very real alternative to Adobe products. The tools are powerful, and in many areas they shine brighter than Adobe's tired old offerings. On the other hand, some basic usability issues seem to hang about forever. It drive me nuts at times.
Take 'Separated Mode' for example as discussed in this thread. In Affinity apps, basic window management commands (like maximise) completely ignore the location of toolbars and studio panels, making for a pretty frustrating experience!

wtrmlnjuc reacted to Sidk in Workspace customization improvements
Workspace customization is currently difficult and laborious.
Feature request 1: Workspace saving | Now if I want to save workspaces, they must be copied from system files. Also i hate to lose my workspace setup after updating software. 1.5, 1.6 and now 1.7.
Feature request 2: Workspace customization improvements | Now moving tool tabs and setting up custom workspace is very frustrating. Many times elements just can't snap into desired location or snapping area is very odd.
Feature request 3: Workspace reset to saved workspace

wtrmlnjuc reacted to JET_Affinity in Workarounds for Distortion, Warp, or Perspective distort?
Um…that's what user forums are.
Nonsense. The former in no way implies the latter. And the contrary is more often demonstrated in this forum than in any other software user forum in which I participate. But there's no need for the company's developers to answer each and every repetitive rant.
And you said "either…", which implies an "or…", which you did not provide. So I will:
...or the Affinity team (i.e., the privately owned company) is following the development path (priorities and sequence) which makes most senses for its (not your; not my) product development, and has neither time for, nor interest in, listening to a bunch of repetitive, rude, insulting immature rants from self-proclaimed 'professionals' convinced that their personal pet peeve is always the one upon which the future of the graphics world pivots, and that everyone else is an amateurish dolt.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to AffinityAppMan in Workarounds for Distortion, Warp, or Perspective distort?
Any Distortion, Warp, or Perspective distort features soon? This year? Any date release? I need to know if I need to change apps.
What is everyone else doing to get around not having Distortion or Perspective distorts in Affinity Designer?
Any tips?

wtrmlnjuc reacted to evtonic3 in Vector/pattern fill
Let's hope the pattern making capabilities are at the forefront for the devs this coming year. I hate to admit that the AI for iPad has some nifty ways of making them and also a very intuitive radial repeat function.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to Vladimir Krstic in Support for keyboard and mouse/trackpad
With iOS 13.4 that is coming out on 23rd of March iPads will get full mouse and trackpad support. How is Designer looking with keyboard support and can we expect mouse and trackpad support soon?
-
wtrmlnjuc reacted to MikeW in Will Designer ever have tracing capabilities
AD doesn't need to wait for "the best tracing routine known to human kind" before it is added (my paraphrase of Serif's response). How good it is can be refined over time.
If the exact same principles were applied to the core applications, they wouldn't have been released to this day.
Personally, I would opt to roll in Potrace and build a really good UI for it.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to PepGold in Suite wide preferences
It would be awesome if some settings or preferences could propagate across Photo, Designer and Publisher. Like say I favourite a font in Designer, it would be sense that it also as favourite in Photo and Publisher.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to SCHLUBUB in outline / offset path function
@spsorrel: What you just showed is far from beeing an adequate equivalent to an "offset path" function (or however you might name it) like, for example, Illustrator has it. In some situations you need an editable copy of path with a defined offset (positive or negative) from the original path. For example in signmaking business (where I come from), to have a cutting path for stickers and that is just one example. In fact, at work ( where I use Illustrator) I need this every day. As a home solution Affinity is a good app, but there are still some basics missing for professional use, regarding on what you have to do with it. Yes, there are "workarounds" for most issues but they are not always efficient.
Despite that, Affinity Apps are great and they are constantly improving and implementing great features.
Adobe killed Freehand nearly 2 decades ago and I am still missing some of it’s great features, even if they implemented a few of them into Illustrator over the years... Considering that, Affinty did a great job in a short period of time!

wtrmlnjuc reacted to purveyor27 in [Implemented] Is it possible to package a project in Publisher?
Packaging the document to include all assets and fonts etc ( like InDesign) is a feature that would be 100% mandatory for me to be able to switch from InDesign to Affinity Publisher. and oh boy do I ever want to switch to affinity Publisher!!!
