I agree that an official update on this would be appreciated. One that doesn’t treat us all like kids. It can be caveated, but it would be good to understand what the current aspirations are for when / which version this feature is targeted for @MEB

It would be very useful to have functions to select the same:

Color fill stroke (color / width) Appearance To quickly select all your outlines, or background element in 1 color.
    Speed is everything.  :)

The simple fact that we are talking about a 12 year old feature that is still used everyday in illustrator,  just strengthens the point...

    @deedsNails it.
In an effort to refresh both design and software skills (dormant since art school over a decade ago), I purchased the suite. I've been fiddling, running through tutorials on Skillshare, seeing what still works in my artistic brain. Sadly, AD is technologically incapable of allowing users to complete a frustrating majority of elementary design projects. I think this is generally where @deedsfinds the pillar of his argument that AD is much more for illustration than design. There's too much that it cannot do that anyone who expects to work seriously will need it to do.
AD is a 20th century solution to 21st century design problems. Until it grows up, the only aspect of all-things Adobe where an argument can be made for it is through the pricing model, which seems wonderful, until tripping over the inability to execute a specific, relatively fundamental design technique leads to the asphyxiation and stymieing of the creative mind.
The "roadmap" that a prospective buyer might peruse before deciding to make a purchase is a well-manicured cul-de-sac.

Yes, it's been in Sketch for a while already:
This is similar to Apple surface finishing for real products. It might seem like a small thing, but visually it makes a difference.

Affinity has been around for a while now and at this point, it is still not a replacement for Adobe.
There are a lot of good things, but the development is just taking way too long.
There is a golden opportunity that is being missed, because a lot of people are fed up with Adobe.
So what exactly is the long range plan and what are the features that are going to be added?
There is a lot of stuff that is not there (including proper plugin support) and I wonder if any of the developers are actually listening.

No one's asking for my 2 cents, but here I am... It's not a matter of comparing to Adobe (which is a HUGE company that delivers large updates twice a year on every product), but a matter of seeing progress in some fronts. There are features like free distort and meshes which have been asked by the Designer community for over 4 years now. They were in the roadmap, but now the public roadmap is gone, so we can't tell if something is being done about those features or not.
I understand that Designer for iPad and Publisher have been released in the meantime, but it seems that the Serif team can only work on one product at a time. So if they're making Publisher for 3 years and Designer for iPad for 2 years, that's 5 years of no substantial updates in Photo and Designer. This is, of course, my own speculation about how the company works. I can't find another explanation for this. However being in the software industry for almost 16 years I have seen really, really small teams deliver features on a regular base on different products, without entering this - really weird, to me - state of no progress in certain projects. Designer is pretty much left behind, receiving only smaller quality of life improvement updates.
Now, it might not be Serif's goal to have all of Illustrator features and make a replacement for it, but if it's not their goal they haven't stated what their goal is either.

I don't think it's a good comparison.  Adobe, Corel and others were innovating without the benefit of what came before them.  Essentially, not much came before them.  Affinity Designer comes along with the benefit of decades of software development that came before them, not to mention their own 30 year history in software development.  It would not be unreasonable to think that any vector software created today would have vector tracing in version 1.0.  We're not talking about the newest, latest, most amazing, stuff like Adobe's puppet warp, etc.  We're talking about a feature hat is decades old.  Adobe integrated vector tracing into Illustrator at version 9, but Adobe Streamline existed for many years before that.  I was using it in the late 90's.
Shapebuilder was a part of Macromedia's software which Adobe acquired.  So they merely integrated it into Illustrator, but it's still very old functionality.  The real question is regarding the intended scale and scope of Affinity Designer.  These features may never appear in Designer along with a lot of other stuff that people want, simply because it's not what Serif intends for their software.

I absolutely recognize that vecorizing happens essentially once-- you don't keep repeating it. But you are seriously underestimating how long Inkscape takes to open and how long it takes to make a switch between these two programs and export/import the result.
Don't think too far into my analogy, that's literally just one sentence in my post. I'm just trying to say that it is onerous to open inkscape any time I need to vectorize an image. I would argue that Illustrator is missing a large feature because you must switch to Photoshop to edit a raster image -- thankfully, Designer has the pixel persona.
I'm also a user of Blender, Fusion 360, and Affinity Photo, and I do have to switch between those apps a lot. But there's a reason for that: they do completely different things and are in entire different worlds. I don't expect Affinity Photo to have 3D abilities, and I do not expect Blender to have raster image editing abilities.
What I am saying is that a car should have the basic features that you expect. Your analogy is broken-- a pressure washer is not something that a motorcycle would be expected to have. I picked the example of a car's reverse because that is a basic feature that is expected on all cars. Evidenced by this entire 12 page thread, there are many, many people who expect a vectorize feature in a vector program. The devs deemed this important, too-- the old DrawPlus X8 had it. I wouldn't be mad if my car was missing heated seats, but I would be if it was missing something as basic as reverse. To many people, vectorizing is a basic vector program feature, and it's missing.
Telling them to go hop in another program is dodging the obvious problem: why not just include a vectorizing feature in Designer in the first place? I know the Affinity team is scared that people will complain that it isn't perfect, but I think the vast majority of us know that vectorizing isn't perfect. Anyone who goes looking for this tool should know what they're getting themselves into.
And, besides, I am fairly confident Serif will add this feature eventually in version 2.0. And I don't mind-- I, and many others, will gladly pay for it is available.

The screenshot shows an example -- I would like the ability to translate the text and rectangle objects together with the two selected nodes.
One way this could be achieved is by adding a dummy node to the objects: If the dummy node is selected, the object will be moved together with any other selected nodes.
Thank you for considering this request!

Affinity's use of the mousewheel is very helpful indeed. Adding this feature to panels such as Character and Paragraph would speed up ones work flow. Currently I must move my mouse over to these panels and manually scroll down.

Hello, I also found a mistake of translation, and I would like to share that.
When we try to close a modified document, Affinity Designer shows a dialog, and the mistake is in the dialog.
    The dialog says:
    “<名称未設定>は削除されています。
    ドキュメントを閉じようとしています。変更内容を保存しますか?”
    The English meaning is:
    “<Untitled> has been deleted.
The document is about to close, would you like to save your changed?”
I think that a correct Japanese message is:
    “<名称未設定>は変更されています。
    ドキュメントを閉じようとしています。変更内容を保存しますか?”.
    Current Dialog Images:

    Version: Affinity Designer 1.7.2.471

It's still valuable since most Japanese don't speak English.
Vertical text is essential in the publishing/printing industry for sure, but in certain industries such as web, photography or painting, they can go without vertical text in many cases.
Unless Affinity becomes well known, people wouldn't be interested in it, and domination by Adobe will continue.
So we have to gain users in industries where vertical text is less important first.

For the "Cycle Selection Box" of the Move tool,
    Translation should be "選択ボックスを循環"
    Current translation"サイクル選択ボックス" doesn't make sense.
Or since there are only two modes, "選択ボックスを切替" might be more suitable.
This means toggling or switching rather than cycling.

I disagree: slide-over forces me to constantly “fling” my app from one side of the screen to the other to access tools. In split-view I generally keep it in the 70:30 ratio that you can access in addition to the 50:50 ratio. If it’s nice in procreate, it’s nice in affinity designer

Split screen mode would be very useful on a 12.9 iPad.  And since half of a 12.9 screen is roughly the same size as a 9.7 screen, it should be an easy mod, right?  Please implement this!
Affinity Designer is amazing, btw.  First vector application I have ever loved on iOS.

    Hi fellas,
I am suggesting the creation of a feature that allows designers to use the Apple pencil to emulate finger gestures when they are unable to use both hands, either because they are holding the tablet or are suffering from repetitive strain injury.
This feature works by tapping the amount of "ghost fingers" to emulate in the ghost finger button (where the stylus is pointing). As you tap the Ghost button, blue circles named Finger 1, 2, etc appear on the screen and a tooltip hints what gestures are available. The artist then can use the pencil to manipulate the object or canvas as if their fingers were on the screen:

Graphic designers do need Footnotes AND Sidenotes ! (please don't do the same mistake as IDCC where you still need an unofficial script to create Sidenotes ...)
Why ? Well .. because footnotes/endnotes/sidenotes are a vital feature for every academic publications, and basically a vital feature to every graphic designer.
    Thanks a lot
