wtrmlnjuc reacted to marcelliino in iPad Multitasking
With the abilities to drag and drop, and edit Affinity native file format in both AD and AP, it will be more efficient if these apps could do split view or slide over on iPad. I imagine that it can even do drag and drop not only an image but also layers and vector objects between AD and AP. Here’s my concept below.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to Mack2D2 in View objects outside artboard.
this is a HUGE handicap and is currently the primary thing standing in the way of me being able to transition 100% to affinity designer... PLEASE FIX YOUR ARTBOARD HANDLING. I'm not trying to say the way you're doing it is better or worse than Adobe's way of doing it but the fact is, Adobe had a strangle hold on the industry long before you came and their way of handling the artboard is how many people's files are currently structured... we have valuable objects outside of our illustrator artboards but we still need access to these elements when opening the files later. If this isn't resolved, we'll be doomed to keep illustrator on hand while trying to use affinity designer and really... that's a fight you'll lose, if it's more convenient to keep using illustrator then we'll slowly stop using affinity designer. I have a huge library of .ai files that are incredibly handicapped by opening them in affinity designer due to the loss of data outside of original artboard area.

I would use it all the time in Affinity Designer. So much easier to use to simulate natural light and shadow on faces, in fact whatever.
But Designer is the mother of all workaround design programs.

Yes, absolutely something the Serif people should put in a (not too far away) future version.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to Hatrantator in Please add different default location for saving documents.
Hi there!
I am very happy with Affinity Designer on iPad (and Windows) albeit there are some, small QoL things missing.
Which brings me here:
On my iPad i can change the default save location of designer. i have 2 options: local storage or iCloud, altough i've Dropbox and OneDrive installed.
i don't know the reason why there are only those two options. I highly doubt there is some limitation on iPadOS, to not allow other storage options. i've got other apps that are able to save to OneDrive or Dropbox.
So what i am asking is:
Can you guys add all the storage options for the default saving location? Pretty please!

wtrmlnjuc reacted to evtonic3 in Enable Transform Origin
Would like to see the ability to manually select where the "Enable Transform Origin" can be placed with a single click plus a modifier key like ALT like Illustrator does. It's such a "drag" (get it? --drag lol) to grab it always from the center and then drag way over to the place I'd like to quickly place it.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to Dan Persa in Floating Panels
Hello Affinity Team,
Thanks for creating a great product!
There is a feature I miss. Being able to show more panels at the same time.
This would be really, really, really useful, for example when trying to add a symbol to specific layer. If I would be able to see both the symbol panel and the layers panel, I would be able to drag and drop the symbol in the right place.
It's a big pain to have to select a layer, or group of layers and then try to add the symbol to the canvas, as the symbol never ends up in the right place.
Also, it would be useful to be able to see more panel, when having to switch tools which are located in different panels. Now, as opposed to the desktop version of the app, which has this feature, you need to click and touch a lot!
Is there a way to get this feature?
Best,
Dan

wtrmlnjuc reacted to Dave Vector in Unsexy Enhancements for Sexy Workflow - Affinity 1.8 - A Wishlist
After using Affinity products professionally for quite some time and observing the development team’s patience and openness to new ideas on the forums, I have a few “unsexy” suggestions to enhancements to take the tedium out of repetitive tasks and keep designers organized.
I am truly impressed with Affinity’s products. In gratitude for that, I am inspired to create this Wishlist with some new ideas, and to chime in with some support for the classic, already-suggested ones. Thanks for reading/listening!
Most of these suggestions can span all the affinity desktop products some are Designer specific.
1. Organize Assets, Swatches, Brushes, Style Libraries with an edit mode, using an interface like the the "Presets Manager" in Shapes, to allow for re-arranging, renaming, moving between categories.
2. Stoke Pressure Profiles can be saved on an application level. Organize and manage, with an interface like the "Presets Manager" in Shapes. It’s all about efficiency, and not having to reinvent the wheel (stroke!) every time.
3. Layers Panel – Select objects and groups and rename them with a multi-rename tool. Instantly get organized so you and even other people can understand the layer groups and objects in your Affinity document. Interface would allow the user to add a numerical counter as a prefix or suffix when renaming. Handy before using Export Persona to create some basic naming conventions.
4. Sort Layer Groups or artboards in the Layers Panel alphabetically, ascending, descending. Yes, it will change the arrangement order, but properly organized groups can make complex file layers much easier to navigate. Handy for PDF Exporting where the order of pages depends upon the artboard order.
5. Save selection sets that can select items spanning multiple artboards and also within groups. Often similar objects need to be adjusted or moved, but they are on multiple artboards or nested in other functional groups. This can quickly solve that problem.
6. Select by object trait (stroke color, stroke thickness, fill colour). A handy way to quickly select and adjust objects with similar properties. Otherwise selecting these can be a nightmare in complicated projects.
7. Select and replace non global identical colours. Does your client want all the red elements blue? What would they look like in teal or taupe? Play rapidly to your heart’s content.
8. Search Assets Panel ACROSS BOTH categories and subcategories, results displayed as filtered choices. Do you have multiple categories/libraries and need to find the right icon fast? This can save you time. Currently a search has to be made within each asset category, which can take some time if you have multiple asset categories.
9. Handy Show Grid checkbox in Isometric Studio Panel. True, you can use a keyboard shortcut, but it would be nice if this button was upfront. Handy when you are working in Isometric view you have to turn on and off the grid to see the artwork uncluttered. Chances are you have the panel open to constantly switch planes anyways…
I hope this helps to add votes for the unsexy underdog features. 😊

wtrmlnjuc reacted to VectorVonDoom in Porsche 917K Daytona Winner (AD)
My main complicated drawings are taking ages so I thought I would work on a few easier ones at the same time. This is the first to be finished.
For me Gulf Racing is the most iconic colour scheme in motor racing and I’ve been meaning to do a 917 but never got around to it until now. Unsurprisingly there aren’t a whole lot of overhead shots of it so this was based on photos of the 1:8 scale die cast model by Amalgam Collection. Very high end, about £10k but bespoke can apparently cost up to £120k. Not something to let the kids play with.
On the Porsche 917K’s public debut at the 1970 Daytona 24 Hours, John Wyer's Gulf-sponsored team finished 1-2 in the race. The winning number 2 car driven by Pedro Rodríguez, Leo Kinnunen and Brian Redman broke the distance record by 190 miles.

Common Feature Requests index
Below is a list of common requested features for which there is already a thread created. Please avoid to create new ones if your request/feedback fits in one of those threads. We consider all requests no matter if they are common (and listed here) or not. The intend of this list is to avoid unnecessary thread duplicates. If you need to create a new one, please add just ONE request per thread. There is NOT a vote system in place. Adding +1 to those topics will NOT affect their priority nor imply their implementation. That’s mostly dependent on time and development goals and constraints. Thanks.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to HYR in 2 Artboard Feature Requests
1. Snap artboard edge to contents – Often times I need to resize an artboard to because the contents have been changed and I need the artboard to perfectly align with the contents. I'd like to see this feature either on by default or a preference that can be turned on. I absolutely need it and would use it every day.
2. Display artboard size – I find with some of my work I need to see the artboard size at all times because I have multiple artboards on the screen that seem very similar in size. So I'd like to see some gray info text on the opposite size of the artboard telling me the size. Currently I have to add the size to the label so I can easily see it at all times. This is pain when I change the size, now I have to update the label and this happens more than you might think. In the screenshot below I show first how I currently have to do it and then how I'd like to see it (built in) to the affinity apps. (Note: This feature could be found in the preferences as well.)

wtrmlnjuc reacted to Angstyboy in Better Stroke Width Control [Designer]
Same here, agree that for drawing Designer is just not good enough. If you want OK pressure control, you need to draw sloooow strokes, resulting in wobbly lines with way too many points. If you want smooth lines, you need do draw quickly, but then the pressure is sampled/processed by Affinity app at too low a rate, resulting in very ugly lines. Draw too quickly, and the curve is ignored completely, and you end up with a straight line with constant width (tested on i5 and i7 with ssd drives and 16gb ram, so it's not a hardware issue). Comparing this to Illustrator or Clip studio only shows how much Affinity is lagging behind in this regard (pun intended

Thanks, this is true. But still it seems a bit unclear with the naming of the Move Tool.

-
wtrmlnjuc reacted to dominik in transformation origin
Good question. I guess it is named not according to what it actually does. It's more of a rotation center. If you move it and then rotate you will notice that it rotates around this origin.
If you want to change the with of an object around its midpoint then you have to press CTRL (on PC, I think its Command on the Mac).

wtrmlnjuc reacted to Kuttyjoe in [ADe] Select same color / fill / stroke / appearance
Because people are getting the point that constructive ideas are just wasting time. Ranting is what's left when you ask for something for 5 years, and get nowhere. Sooner or later people will understand that the feature is not going to happen.
The advantage of Illustrator's implementation is speed. Plain and simple. Just one tap and it finds exactly what you're looking for. You can bind it into an action and work even faster. Coreldraw has a similar implementation as Freehand. Longwinded, tabbed pages of questions. After using that just once, you never want to use it again. That's why people created macros in Coreldraw to immitate how Illustrator works as closely as possible. Although the macros are good, it's probably just not really possible to truly reach the level of speed and simplicity that you find with Illustrator.
And I have yet to see Illustrator's simple and fast implementation in any 2D drawing program. Both have merits. I personally wouldn't be able to work with how Freehand does it, or Coreldraw.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to Josh Neufeld in [ADe] Select same color / fill / stroke / appearance
I think the point was that it would be difficult to work with such a complex file using Affinity Designer because select same functionality is missing.

wtrmlnjuc reacted to aekorps in Continuous Curvature rounding (default)
Sorry, Jet, but something being "in-vogue" has nothing to do with it. And yes, it is used in creating physical parts by a lot more companies than just Apple. It's called a C3 curve in manufacturing and CAD and it's used to create corners that smoothly transition from one surface to another. If you don't see the benefit, please ignore the post.
When something comes along that is clearly better, it should be embraced, in my opinion. This has nothing with a single implementation of "squircles". It's about ALL rounding algorithms in general as I said in my original post. Apple simply uses it in their graphics because it mirrors their manufacturing processes, and they (and I) think it looks better. If it was used by default, it would more likely adopted across the board and we could stop using the old (hideous) curves.
