I see the slow export too. I have a 6 pages document - product images, prices combined with other images, and it takes about 10 minutes to export. I made all this work in Indesign before, same layout and amount of images, and it never had more then 1 minute to export. I've made 250 pages catalogues before in Indesign, that took about 10 Minutes to export. I am specially surprised, that publisher is so slow in comparison, because Indesign is a longtime patched-together piece of software that got slower and slower with each release, while publisher is brandnew - its code should be much cleaner and faster, I was thinking.

Preflight Checklist
Thomahawk replied to RenWaller's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
I was wondering that too. Interestingly, when I export I first get a "warning from the checklist ... textframe text overflow" (well, the German version of that) - thats why I went looking for that checklist... -
Tables, several problems (Publisher)

Same as tabs by the way. They are also way too difficult to handle. -
Tables, several problems (Publisher)

Thats the thing, Garrett. In publisher, because of the nonconformity, one needs a lot of experience with it, exactly knowing when to do what and how in order for it to work. Today for example, I could again not copy a whole table out of publisher, everywhere it ended up all in one line. I had to copy column by column. No clue why it did not work. Again compare to work with tables in excel or indesign. Just copy paste anything anywhere. It always works without having to think about anything except if doing it with or without formatting. Publisher tables are just not there yet. Not user friendly. -
Tables, several problems (Publisher)

Yes, as Publisher does not work standard conform even when pasting without any format, often several steps are needed. I can not copy a column from excel and paste it nonformat into publisher table columns. That gets the next column deleted. I must paste it into TextEdit nonformat first. But from there directly to publisher places all text into one single cell. Paste it from Excel to TextEdit and into Word and then into publisher is the only way this works. Why is publisher not standard conform? Compare Indesign, where it does not matter if the text comes directly from Excel, Textedit, or whatever app, it always splits it correctly, lines into rows and tabs into columns, without affecting cells that are not selected. -

Thanks guys. Two days ago I placed those images into the layout and it was all good. I printed and exported the PDF, still all good. I include a screenshot from the PDF. I did not work on that page since, I only worked on the next few pages. Today then I noted those images changed. There is a cut mask with the images, but it does not affect colors. Other images with cut masks on that same page are still fine. Here the files. example.zip

If you intend to use this PDF placed in an Email to be displayed as a footer or the like, I would also not recommend this. Formatting emails is one of the most difficult tasks. Creating a website is really easy in comparison. That is because of the variety of different mail clients around and barely any of them really adheres to enough standards. There are always things that work in one but not in others, unless you stick to the most basic stuff.

Tables, several problems (Publisher)
Thomahawk replied to Thomahawk's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
hmm strange. Yesterday I tried every possible way how to get 3 columns with 20 rows copied out of publisher. Nothing did work, and the application I tried the most was Word. Everything ended up on one line. Today, with the same table from yesterday, suddenly it copies just fine into Word. So there is some inconsistency involved. As long as at least this works, then my statement of USELESSNESS I would have to gladly take back. But then what worries me is: precisely then when I depend on it to work – will it? I would say it could have been Words fault, if not the same resulted in every other app like TextEdit, Excel and even in Publisher itself when copying back. So I am really unsure now how much I can trust Publisher. -
Publisher 1.7.1 I have embedded images which suddenly changed color. Not all of them. But some suddenly are darkened, blackened. They all have transparent backgrounds. But 4 aluminium foils and one package suddenly turned color. I did nothing with them, I was working on other pages in that document today. I see nothing in layers or taking them over to af Photo. No setting or mask or anything. Only the pixel layer is there.

It is not even possible to copy texts from a Af Publisher table back into Excel. All columns and rows from Publisher land in one Cell in Excel. THIS IS A MAJOR FLAW AND MAKES PUBLISHER TABLES COMPLETELY USELESS! -
I am missing something like that too. It is so very basic for work in a vector app. Af Photo has it for pixels. But I really need this for vector objects too.

Thanks for the explanations. Why It get to 0? Because I tried if line height has any effect at all. It does not. Its not important if that override has any value. Line height does nothing. So this is clearly a bug. At best you can say, okay, the German version of leading override is badly named. Still does not explain why the main leading setting in top bar has no effect at all.

I just came across something very odd. (I am using Publisher 1.7.1 German). Line Height does not work! What I used all that time aas line height, really is something called "distance correction" - no Idea what it is for. When today, I found the real line height setting, I noted that it had no effect whatsoever. All text stay mashed together on one line (see first screenshot). It is ONLY after I set a value in "distance correction", when the text lines became separated.

Right. Yes, thats the thing. Bluring edges. I just noted the transparency tool does not even work on images. I am aware that I can of course use masks for this. But this used to be a two clicks (5 seconds) thing for me in Indesign or XPress. So I am really missing that flexibility.

wrong function in color swatches
Thomahawk replied to Thomahawk's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
@thomaso – I am in Publisher. I dont see such drop down option anywhere there. Would be nice though. I meant in English, as I am used to German terms. But there does not exist a word in neither language for this. It is a technical condition. Color value, saturation etc, this all describes absolutes. So only a technical description can explain this, like: "a percentage of a given color", because that given color can have any kind of saturation, brightness or value, be pantone or cmyk or rgb or whatever.
