  1. Jens Krebs, was your comment supposed to be helpful? I suggest that if you were actually trying to be helpful, you might have guided me to a solution; it would not have taken you any more time than resorting to "flippant" remarks.
  2. In Gimp.app, I can create a shape and then "shrink" it or "grow" it by pixels or inches in place. While I have not exhausted myself in trying to find this feature in Affinity Designer or Photo, I don't think this feature exists. I am requesting that you consider adding these functions in the Affinity apps in the next major update.
  3. What a difference a day makes.... I went back into Affinity Designer and I was successful in setting the background color to black. Unfortunately, I am unable to reproduce the issue of the background color going to white and then not being able to change it back to black. I know you were interested in this issue and I am sorry that I cannot reproduce the issue. Why would the application background color go to white and then not respond to subsequent attempts to bring it back to black yesterday and then work correctly today? ??? (rhetorical question)
  4. After downloading & installing the newest beta version of Photo beta, when trying to adjust background gray levels, the background goes to bright white and then the sliders become dysfunctional. After the UI sets background levels to bright white, the UI gray level slider ceases to work. I slide the sliders back and forth but nothing happens I ran into the same problem in Designer beta (latest version).

  6. Thank you Gnobelix for your contribution. Thank you R C-R for your input: you actually caused the light to go on in my head and I had a revelation. Here's how I got to where I wanted to go: -Create a new image -"Place" my background image. -Select the background image. -Select Document/Convert to Curves -With the new layer selected: 1. Select preferences on the styles panel 2. Select "Create style from selection" 3. Rename the style -Insert text onto the document -Apply new style "Gold Wave" to the text. -Export the new style I have found that when I try to import the Affinity Photo style into Affinity Designer, the file imports but just shows blank ???? Shouldn't we be able to import styles between Affinity applications? Gold wave-1.6.7.afphoto Gold wave-Photo-1.6.7.afstyles Gold Wave.afstyles
  7. I am trying to make a new style from the attached image. -I select "ALL" and the selection handles appear around the image -In the styles panel, I click "New style from selection" & nothing happens! Where am I going wrong? Golden wave background.afphoto
  8. Alfred, I was not confused by what you had to say, just confused about the polarity of the reception that my post had amongst the people who reacted to it.
  9. Point noted PedroOfOz; you will not see any "political" content from me again. Thanks for the clarification Alfred Thank you for your comments, haakoo
  10. Thought I would share this project with you all. I don't mean to tread on anyone's political leanings; I just wanted to share the project for whatever it's worth (This + ~~$1.50 will get you a cup of coffee) https://www.dropbox.com/s/kurq4tx7kq4p5ob/VOTE BLUE 2.afphoto?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/y27u1d06sebwc8k/VOTE BLUE 2.png?dl=0
  11. Some great information to support my previous contention that including more graphics and, (please), embedded videos in the help topics would increase retention exponentially: My previous quote: "It has been scientifically proven that people learn more from graphic images than they do from text alone. (Wouldn't it be fantastic if you included a short .mpg4, .avi, .gif or a .mov to illustrate how each tool works?!!!)" Some interesting statistics from TechSmith.com (with references) (developers of Camtasia.app and Snagit.app) that support my contention: Did you know... Text supported by illustrations can enhance understanding by 323% compared to text alone (Neoman) Almost 50% of your brain is involved in visual processing. (Neoman) Visuals increase knowledge retention by 50%. (creately) 59% of executives would rather watch a video than read text. (Hubspot)
  12. FEATURE REQUEST-------------------------Make Mac OS Affinity apps use right-click like in the Windows version. I notice in several instances that Affinity apps in MacOS require an ALT + click to initiate a function whereas in the Windows version, you just have to right-click. I am really big on right-clicking to access contextual menus and initiate/engate/launch tools as in the Windows version of Affinity apps (I use both Affinity for Mac and Affinity for Windows platforms) Why is this? Wouldn't it be better for Affinity apps to behave the same way in both Mac OS and in Windows? It certainly would be less confusing for me. In addition to making right-click an additional way of launching a tool/function, it should also bring up all of the menu bar full-menus as I have illustrated in a separate feature request. Serif could consider making the right-click function universal for the reasons I have stated, and, if for no other reason than to decrease the variables when troubleshooting.
  13. FEATURE REQUEST--------------ADD ADDITIONAL LOCATIONS TO SPECIFY "EXPORT HISTORY WITH DOCUMENT" Maybe I am missing something because I am a "newbie"; someone please steer me to more than the 1 place to specify: "Export History with Document" but, if I am correct, there is only 1 place to specify "Export History with Document" in the "File" menu. I am requesting that you add this function to the Export panel and in the "Export Persona" panel as shown in the screenshots provided.
  14. Feature Request -Make more theme colors available than Dark or Light. -Make themes available as in the example shown in the screenshot attached "Gimp Directory Structure" -consider adopting the use of gtkrc themes which are editable as in the attachment "Gimp black" and "Gimp Directory Structure" and "Gimp gtkrc" -(I know that somewhere in your directory structure, you have the equivalent of a gtkrc file; consider making that file location within the directory structure revealed and editable so that we could choose colors we like for the background color, insensitive color, UI color, text, unselected text, selected text and insensitive text.) (Note that there is abundant third-party theme support for Gimp app as portrayed in the screenshot provided called "Gimp Directory Structure" -GTKRC files are editable and can stipulate any hex # for background color, insensitive color, tooltip color, menubar color, text, insensitive text, selected text, etc. as demonstrated in the screenshot attached called "Gimp gtkrc". Notice how, by editing the gtkrc file, when you have the ability to select black (hex # 000000) for both the background color and the UI color, for example, everything just jumps off of the background like a 3D effect ) Cool!!! -Alternatively, you could make these colors selectable via menus like in the Windows Operating system theme colors which can be selected by hex # for all of the aforementioned categories. -I have provided a copy of the Gimp theme gtkrc file and a screenshot of the main variables called "Gimp gtkrc" for the " Gimp Black" theme for your examination and consideration. -At a minimum, allow us to select the UI GAMMA slider all the way to hex #000000; that can't be much of a stretch as you already have written the code to allow setting both the "Background Grayscale" and the "Artboard Background Grayscale" to hex #000000 gtkrc
  15. -Sell the rights to the electronic copy of the workbooks as a package or as a separate license with trackable id's like electronic barcode signatures or some other internet tracking signature. Other ways of making electronic copies of the workbooks only accessible to the purchaser of record: -Limit the electronic copies of the workbook to 2 x the number of personal purchases of the workbook-linked to 2 electronic licenses for each workbook purchased-verifiable by order number+ip address+username+password. -Limit the electronic copies to 1 x the number of workbooks purchased by commercial purchasers-linked to an electronic license for each workbook-verifiable by a commercial license # + documented employee credentials (verified against commercial licensees verified current employee status) + username + password. (I doubt seriously that many people would be willing to give up their usernames and passwords to third parties). -It would be impossible for a third party to be able to broadcast the ip address of the network of the original purchaser. -Only the original purchaser could submit changes to the ip address, verifiable by supplying the original ip address + some other factor like router signature/serial number or some other network signature trackable by Serif Labs when you log in. -Make the electronic copy of the workbook an online workbook whereby the purchaser of record has to log in which gives Serif Labs the opportunity to compare the ip address, username and password with the last used credentials and/or the last ip address used to access the electronic copy.
  16. It would be really helpful for "newbies" like me if Help Topics provided STRATEGIES for using the myriad of tools, functions, methods, adjustments, etc. both in the help topics and, include the HELP button on the lower left hand corner of each DIALOG PANEL/BOX that is linked to the help topic on that specific function and strategies on how to approach the task at hand. I have read many of the help topics and I feel that the technical writer assumed a lot about the level of proficiency of the user; I feel that when writing technical documents, one should assume that the user needs to assimilate an understanding and appreciation of the norms, conventions, procedures and strategies on how to use the specified function/tool/adjustment and methods. Take my present situation for example, with the picture provided; I need to use at least 2 different adjustment tools because I need to reduce haze, lighten the whole picture and preserve contrast. Being a "newbie", I am overwhelmed by all of the variables in each adjustment dialog box/panel. It would be very helpful if the technical writer who edits the help topic involving each specific method or adjustment would seek advice from the development teams to find out and illustrate with text and graphic examples of known typical strategies to approach any given situation; for example: 1.) When using the Levels dialog, start by trying "###" and then, try "###" and tell the user how the different adjustments affect the image and how each parameter in the dialog box/panel interact with each other; tell the user how the adjustments affect the image IN DETAIL. 2.) How, when, why use the Gamma slider/what does the value of "1" mean?/what are the CONVENTIONS AND TYPICAL KNOWN PROCEDURES & STRATEGIES for using Output Black Level/Output White Level/Blend Modes, and all of the other functions in the Levels dialog box. Each function could be linked & cross-referenced to specific paragraphs within the help topics and addressed when pressing the HELP button in the lower left corner of the dialog box as I have asked for in a separate feature request. Include more screenshots of the tools/adjustments/modes/methods/strategies and provide an image and show how changing the value of a given parameter affects the image in what ways by using a split screen snapshot of the before and after an adjustment. My main point here is that the technical writers who write the help topics in the HELP menu should assume the user is a "newbie" like me and they are just looking around helplessly and swearing because the help topics don't fully explain and illustrate using graphics and images, on how to use each function in these incredibly powerful and complex applications in the Affinity suite. It has been scientifically proven that people learn more from graphic images than they do from text alone. (Wouldn't it be fantastic if you included a short .mpg4, .avi, .gif or a .mov to illustrate how each tool works?!!!) Each help topic could be explained in detail; the screenshot of the Affinity Photo Levels help topic provided below is a great start, but it does not comprehensively explain the interaction of the different adjustments with the image and with the other adjustments; this is where the help topics can be greatly improved and the user will greatly benefit from an unabridged treatise on these specific strategies/adjustments and methods.
  17. Please consider writing into your next forum website functions, the ability to use colored text and colored backgrounds & highlights.
  18. Make the View/Zoom menu more robust and flexible. Compare the zoom menu from Gimp app and Affinity Photo Beta app below. Notice that the Gimp app allows for 16+ possibilities for zooming in and out including the ability to set custom zoom factors. I would like to see these features in the Affinity suite of applications. https://www.gimp.org/
  19. Further information to clarify my feature request for comprehensive right-click menus. Attached are 6 examples of how Gimp.app handles the right-click context menus. No matter where you are or what tool you are using in the Gimp app, you can always get all of the toolbar menus by right-clicking without having to "travel" to the top of the screen to access "Edit" or "View" or "Select", etc. Gimp app is overshadowed by Affinity suite in many ways, but this is 1 area of the Gimp app U.I. that I wish for when using Affinity apps. Ref: 1.) Gimp documentation site: https://docs.gimp.org/ 2.) Gimp main website: https://www.gimp.org/
  20. While you are rewriting the beta versions of the Affinity Suite of applications in preparation for the next retail versions, please consider: 1. Make both the desktop version and the online version of the help files searchable by keywords and key phrases. (provide a search bar in every pane of the help menu files) 2. Produce "fuzzy search" results from any of several possible terms that might be used to search for the same help topic. (ex. A search for Typography, text, verbiage and writing might yield the same search results. or, keyboard, keyboard shortcuts and keyboard customization might yield the same results. (not that these are great examples, but hopefully, you get where I am coming from)) (This way, if a user is not certain how to phrase his/her search, they could still find what they are looking for)
  21. I am admittedly a newbie here and this is a newbie question. I have noticed that sometimes, I get a menu when I right click and sometimes I don't: Under what circumstances, when I right-click, should I expect to get a menu in Affinity applications?
  22. Since you are writing a new retail version of Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher anyway, please consider this: Place a Help button on the lower left corner of each tool/feature pane that links to/cross-referenced with contextual help on the features included in that tool pane, like: -Definition of each feature in the pane with icon representation when available. -Strategies on how to use each feature in that tool pane. -When to use each feature in that tool pane. -How to use each feature in that tool pane. -Effect of using each feature in that tool pane/effect that changing the value to certain parameters has on the photo. (In other words, if you increase the border width, it will have so and so effect on what you are selection, or, if you increase the brush size, it will have so and so effect on your intended selection, or, if you increase the "ramp" value, it will have so and so effect on your intended selection, and so on, and so forth. -Recommendations on most commonly used values for each feature in that tool pane; a good default value to begin with. (Just me spinning my head off with whatever comes to my mind concerning this topic).
  23. Silly and ignorant me; I misunderstood what I was reading and read into something on this site that lead me to believe there was another Affinity program out there called "Range" Sorry if I wasted anyone's time or inconvenience with my "faux pas".
  24. I have the beta version of both Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher on Mac OS and I cannot figure out how to make the help topic page screen width, or how to zoom in on a specific text on the page, or how to resize panels independently. I have spent some time at this, so I am assuming that it can't be done in Mac OS (or, I am dumb as a post! ) Someone, please rescue me from my ignorance. That is why I submitted the feature request so that the development teams could possibly include these features in the next retail versions and operating systems of all Affinity applications. It seems logical to me that the development teams might want to have everything behave the same way across all applications and operating systems, if only to decrease the variables when troubleshooting bugs.
