Thanks all of you for your tips & tricks. In the end the only issue was that I ticked `Convert to document's profile` on my first export. I spend a few hours, converting colors, changing stuff – but once I inspected the file in Acrobat I saw that I screwed it up even more. (I used the print production preview to get the picker that can tell you all the color layers underneath your cursor – that could be a really nice feature, I don't know if `channels` can do the same.) So after reverting everything, converting a few color images by using the `Black & White` filter (heads up: this filter rasterizes the layers underneath it on export) and inspecting again everything was suddenly fine and I could resend the file. Thanks again for our helpful discussion :-)

Funnily enough the images are not really my problem, because they're already in black and white and have been adjusted for printing I'm wondering, is the "K only" button only showing when Photo is installed or is it not showing for me because of my miniature screen resolution? I didn't realize that I can create color swatches in two ways. If I select edit on my (now) CMYK text colors (all grays), in the colour picker I then change to "grayscale", then I place the cursor in the gray percentage field, hit return and then create a swatch colour from that, it shows as black and white colour... Don't know if that makes any difference in output, though. I used the format option of search and replace to replace all text colors accordingly. I guess, now I still need a trial version of Acrobat to see if everything's exporting fine...

Hi experts, I'm working on a tricky document in Publisher that requires me to set up some pages with grayscale text & imagery + spot colour and some pages with CMYK imagery / placed content + spot colour. Now I've exported my document and got feedback from the printer that the whole document is CMYK. I realized that it is, because I selected it to convert everything to the document's profile when exporting to PDF which is CMYK. Is there an easy way to configure some pages to export as grayscale + spot colour and some other ones to export as CMYK + spot colour?

Alright, then it's maybe the case that Preview creates an encapsulated postscript file when choosing `Export` and the print dialogue creates a “simple” postscript file. Unfortunately, mentioned export option fails with an error for me for some pdf files, so I had to go the long way and use the print dialog. Still, postscript files shouldn't crash Affinity apps in my opinion The PDF import is incredibly amazing, but I really wish there was a switch to just use the pdf “as is”. I'm preparing a publication with some printed commercials. And the pdf files I received are some though ones and of course I don't have all the fonts. So, for some the export from Preview trick worked and I imported them as `.ps` files (although it might just be .eps in reality), for others I grabbed the trial version of Acrobat and converted everything to curves and for the most tricky ones I simply rasterized them at the document's print resolution and will import them as images. That's quite far from “simply dropping some pdfs into your design“. But I also remember that it was quite a fight in InDesign. It would always keep the color space of the placed pdf and sometimes completely destroy the placed PDF on export of the document... So much for my monologue – maybe this crash can simply be caught and replaced by a message stating exactly what you wrote @mac_heibu.

I think, the fact that Affinity apps try to open the file and don't throw a `Can't open this type of file` warning speaks to the assumption that it is potentially possible to open and place postscript files. I'm trying to do so to avoid font-replacement problems that occur when placing as PDF. I also was under the impression that I was able to place a postscript file that I created through Preview's `Export` feature, holding `Option-Key` and selecting `PostScript`. But maybe in reality that's actually a PDF file? I can't quite remember anymore and macOS is kind of fuzzy with file endings...

I have a postscript file sitting here that I created from printing a PDF in macOS Preview and selecting to save as postscript file. It simply crashes any Affinity app when dragging it in or selecting `Open with`. It converts fine when opening in Preview. Could you send me a file drop link, so I can provide you with the file? Additionally, after the crash it takes several minutes for macOS to show the `An error occurred` dialog. I will also make sure to include the error log with the file :-) Thanks in advance – Thomas

Update: After the release of Publisher and availability of Studio Link this problem is kind of obsolete. I just created my first actual publication with Publisher and edited all photos directly inline. Love it

Unfortunately no Home and End keys on my keyboard Indeed, I can disable the spacing adjustment with arrow keys and option in keyboard shortcuts preferences. However, I cannot find shortcut descriptions like the 3 ones I'm looking for. Would be awesome if these could be added (Linestart, lineend, word by word)

I just tried in the latest release of Publisher on Mac and, indeed, these two already work: `Option` + `Backspace` -> Delete one word `Cmd` + `Backspace` -> Delete line However, `Option` + Arrow keys seems to mirror InDesigns behaviour of adjusting kerning. Which is configurable in InDesign. So, these below would still be great to have, maybe through configuration? Mac: `Ctrl` + `a` -> Jump to beginning of line `Ctrl` + `e` -> Jump to end of line `Option` + ⬅️/➡️ -> Navigate word by word Edit: I just found out that you can use `Cmd` and arrow keys to navigate words While this is going to be confusing, it's still better than not having it!

Thanks for clarifying – I didn't know, this already works on Windows. I haven't been using Publisher on Windows yet, the list was just about the generic shortcuts I'd like to be able to use :-)

First off, I love the multi-cursor support – brilliant move :-) Icing on the cake would be, if we had operating-system-like keyboard navigation in text boxes or at least an option to enable it. I work a lot with these shortcuts in the list below within the operating systems, but there might me more. It's awesome for quickly editing texts: Mac: `Ctrl` + `a` -> Jump to beginning of line `Ctrl` + `e` -> Jump to end of line `Option` + ⬅️/➡️ -> Navigate word by word `Option` + `Backspace` -> Delete one word `Cmd` + `Backspace` -> Delete line Windows: `Pos1` -> Jump to beginning of line `End` -> Jump to end of line `Ctrl` + ⬅️/➡️ -> Navigate word by word

This is awesome, thanks! You don't even need to create a slice, because the image itself is the default slice. Unfortunately, there seems to be no option to keep the tiff editable (keeping the layers intact) when exporting slices. Maybe I just couldn't find it? There is a dedicated checkbox when using the regular export dialogue...

Thanks for the hint, but I'm trying to get rid of InDesign... Oh, I didn't know that there will be an update for Photo to make it more compatible with Publisher – but it makes sense! That sounds mysterious and also very promising! :-) (Maybe we could resize and optimize images directly in Publisher – that'd be awesome) Cool, that sounds like the right direction. I was able to create an export profile preset in Photo, where I can also set an export dpi value. But how would I tell Photo to always export with this setting, once I hit save on the .afphoto file? Can you help me here?

Hi everyone, I've been trying Publisher on Mac a bit and it seems that I can't quite figure out how to replace my current InDesign photo editing workflow when preparing for printing. Example: A simple CMYK brochure, in InDesign: Create layout with texts and images as they come from editors. ... Prepare for printing Do this for every page: Click on image Remember actual width on page (like 90 mm) Right click “Edit with... -> Adobe Photoshop“ Now in Photoshop: Press Ctrl + Alt + I, adjust width to 90 mm and dpi value to desired print dpi Further in Photoshop: Convert image to CMYK + do some basic photo editing so that image looks nicer after printing Last step in Photoshop: Save as tiff with layers Back to InDesign -> Replace image with extension, write `.tiff` Export with X3 profile or similar With Affinity products I have several problems here: I couldn't find an option to open an image placed in Publisher in Photo I couldn't find out how to quickly save an image as tiff with keeping layers in Photo so that Photo recognizes that I saved the image (it always wants me to save it in the proprietary Photo format, which I don't want because of vendor-lock-in reasons) When I resize the image in Photo to, let's say, 260 dpi with a width of 90 mm, it seems that Photo recalculates it to 72 dpi when I export it as tiff... It's really strange, but the images look blurry in Publisher afterwards, also in InDesign (and also the “actual dpi” and width in InDesign is completely off, although I aim for hitting it exactly in the resize dialogue in Photo). I couldn't find an option in Publisher to replace images by extension Frankly, I'm pretty open to change this workflow (maybe there's some automation to some steps also). I might be a bit oldschool with that workflow, anyways: If you have any suggestions on how to replace such a workflow in the Affinity universe, I'd very much appreciate that :-) I'm also thinking about keeping a Photoshop license, because I wasn't very satisfied with the images I edited for print through Photo, firstly, because of the aforementioned resizing problems, but also because Photoshop seems to be able to apply the filters I need a lot better (shadow/highlight + tone levels). Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Would love to hear about any hints or settings :-) (I regularly receive very bad source image, so some magic is necessary to make them work in print ) – Thomas
