Hello Tom. I've asked for this usability feature a while back but haven't heard back.. Hopefully will be added in a future update.

Sticky settings hace been pointed out for a long time... Comes up in the forum in a new thread every month . I see it in the App Store feedback but still nothing.... Not sure why is this not implemented and held back in favor of a new filter or buzz word feature. Please just release a .01 update and address this... Will make a lot of people (specially professionals trying to adopt the software) VERY happy.

Maybe it could happen... It looks like Apple is happy with their Affinity/Serif relationship. Affinity Photo for iPad showcased in the Apple Developers conference and also I remember last year several Affinity Designer screenshots in their iMac product photos in the apple.com website... A one year old product displayed prominently in Apple's website. Who would have thought so.... ? Added: Now they are showing a Photoshop screenshot, ja! They must have have made somebody uncomfortable...

Just Bought Final Cut Pro X and Motion to replace Adobe Premiere (And somewhat AfterEffects which is really hard to replace) With Affinity Photo to replace Photoshop and Affinity Designer to replace Ilustrator this could be a killler combination if they could communicate and export assets easily with Apple's Pro Video Products. This would help a lot of Editors/ Video & Motion Graphic Artists to make the switch if they are un happy with the Adobe CC Subscription plan. Target a whole new segment of the Design Community.. P.D. As mentioned before if this comes on version 2.0 or 2.5 of Designer (or Photo) it's understandable, just keep it in mind for future features.

Hi just revisiting this topic started 6 months ago. Are any of these issues reported by mfarooqi in the work list....? Would be great help to implement ALL his suggestions. Selection tools are VERY important in the daily workflow. Thanks

Hello: I just discovered today there's a way to drag layers between open Affinity Photos documents! I was trying to drag a layer from the work window into another open document but it is NOT possible. I see now I can do this by dragging the layer from the Layers palette, but for this to work there has to be no layer selected in the receiving document.... At least it works but could you make the default behavior a little less finicky and just let us drag a layer to a new open document regardless if we are doing it from the work window or from the layer window? Also please no need to have the receiving document with no active layer selected. Just make it easy and painless for us. Thanks!

I couldn't agree more with the post. (Well not the toy part, ja as I'm using now Affinity Photo instead of Photoshop for my daily workflow.) But I really do miss those Sticky settings in all the tools ( Specially crop and selection tools )... not sure why this has been neglected in AP, it's a real productivity killer. Also the new/advanced Shadow'Highlights filters is an improvement but still VERY behind Camera Raw results. Please address these issues first instead off adding more bells and whistles. Don't make v 1.6 Big Marketing Feature the ability to switch to a light or dark user interface, really....?

I was used to opening Illustrator files in Affinity Designer and having my text preserved so I assumed Affinity Photo would be the same; but it sounds like it's going to be a difficult task.. :( Hopefully in the version 2 or somewhere along the line it could be solved. It sounds like a small thing but I think it's something people moving over from photoshop would expect to have. I'm using A Photo now in my day to day work and wanted to hand off/export an editable PSD but I guess we'll have to wait a little bit more.

Hello: Just tried to export a simple file I created in Affinity photo with some text layers as a PSD file. Opened it in Photoshop and noticed all text layers are NOT editable. Wasn't aware of this limitation. Tried different options and chose Preserve accuracy and preserve editability but both are the same... Hope a better export option for PSD is in the road map. This would help A LOT for people to adopt Affinity Photo as their photo editor. (And help us that are using it now for production work so we can hand off editable PSD files ) :) Thanks for the hard work.

Hello: I know its in the list (and in other recent threads) but any chance the Crop Tool ticky setting will be implemented in the 1.6 software update? Sorry to bring it up again but t's being about 5-6 months since I last asked... :) . I'm finally using Affinity Photoshop instead of Photoshop and this would be a GREAT addition to improving the day to day workflow. Thanks

Rui Mac don't make me cry and remember Freehand again.... :blink: Everything worked much more easily. Those were the days .... Used it since vesion 5 until Adobe killed it and had to switch to Illustrator (since I knew there was no future on it)... But I can make the switch again if needed and use Affinity Designer. ;)

Can confirm all of this list. Selection in Affinity Photo is not as simple and intuitive as it could be. I think you are overcomplicating it with the mode: new. add, substrate and intersect option. Just keep it simple and when I make a new selection it is always "new". Then if I select again and use the shift key I "add" to the selection or if I use the option key I "subtract". That's it :) no need to click on extra setting/s mode. And always have a visual feedback of the marquee selection.

Thank you very much for the link Sima. It is very helpful. This video is the closest to what we want. Still a couple of extra steps compared to Photohop's way of creating complex selections using an Alpha Channel as a starting point. Not perfect but I guess this is what we have for now in Affinity Photo, and the final result is the same ( just tried a couple of exercises). Hopefully in a future version we can directly paint and manipulate channels as if they were grey scale images. Much more versatile.

Hello seabirdr. Currently there is no easy way to do what you ask... (At least that I know off) All three videos are interesting but it's not what he asked.... It would be great if we could do exactly what seabirdrs ask. Maybe in a future (not so distant?) update. I think this is the only thing missing from Photoshop that I may miss. Luckily it's not a deal breaker for me right now.

This is great news. Wasn't aware of this preference. Will make working much more easier. I think this should be the default behavior. By the way, I also use artboards in all my documents and find myself selecting the art boards by mistake Quite a Lot. I see that if i click on any top part of the artboard it gets selected (not just the left corner with the name). I'm thinking that maybe it would help to have another dedicated tool that only moves artboards instead of using the regular pointer (move tool)

This is how Sketch handles the same function. Picking a Layer by right clicking in the work area. Very nice, shows a very clear hierarchy: Artboard, Group and Individual layers. This makes working with complex documents and multi groups a breeze ... No response yet.... :(

Hello also was looking for a way to do this.... Maybe you could add it as an option when right clicking on the layers palete. Know I know where it is I'll use it, but it's kind of hidden for new users that are making a switch from Photoshop..... Regards,

Yes to 1, 3, 4, 5 and 8... Just trying to do some simple assets for a webpage and finding some of these limitations frustrating....

Hello. I brought this up more than a year ago but the thread got lost when the forums were updated. It would be a great usability improvement if we could have more options for selection layers in the work area canvas. Right now when i select objects with the arrow. Sometimes the whole group is selected and sometimes the layer I want to work with gets selected. It's a little hit or mis.. When this happens I select a layer from inside the group in the layers palette. Now I can select as expected the individual layers inside the group but if I starting working with another group I loose the option to select the layers from another group. it kind of kills the workflow when you can't select objects in a complex multi group document. (which we usually work with). This is not an issue with simple documents with a couple of layer and no group layers. But as soon as you create one group layer to start organizing content selecting layers is troublesome. It would be a GREAT time saver if we could right click on the canvas/work area and have all the layers that are available underneath the arrow/cursor and select it from here. I do this in Photoshop a dozen times a day without thinking to make selection of layers. Again another little thing that helps in the day to day work. I'm attaching a screenshot to show what i mean.
