Is there a way to create custom guides that are at angles or can a regular object line or shape be converted into a guide?

Seems like a minor over sight to only assume guides will be vert or horiz.
Yes, I know I can use "lines" but they then need a stroke to be seen and things get busy... guides are visible all the time.
