Gigiga got a reaction from deeds in Request : shortcut for the hand tool when editing text
No Tablet, laptop is in shell mode so no trackpad, mouse wheel is assigned another action. What does everyone working with text and a layout tool have? Right, a keyboard. If only one could make use of that easily...
My point is, there is a proven, widely used command for that specific use case around for decades in the dominant tools for designers. Just not in affinity. Why? I'm not working as a designer anymore, but when I work in publisher for example, 20 years of using Quark, Indesign etc. WITH this command lets you do exactly that automatically. Every time my Finger finds the alt key and it does not work as described makes me roll my eyes at this. Some things are so little to implement but have such a huge impact on proven and standarized workflows.

+1 This should be a basic functionality. The way it is now really interrupts the workflow.

I've asked for that feature while we're were still around v.1.7 I think. If we can just get the exact copy of Indesign it would be perfect. Hold alt to get the hand tool, let go to get back to the text cursor.

    Hello
Thank you every one for your answers.
I know about what you say, but I think a solution with one key is better.
I do very often the sequence :  zoom - typing texte - pan - continuing typing. With your solution I have to press ESC -  press V - press spacebar to pan - double clic to re-enter the text frame for typing.
So having a one key fast solution for panning is better. Again the ALT key as InDesign is a good way : press ALT - Pan - release ALT - continuing typing.

For everyone that has the exact same problem, here is how you work around that:
Don't use adjustment layers over the spot color layer(s) AT ALL!!!
It will always change the spot color to CMYK no matter what you change in Export settings.
    My solution:
Instead merge the adjustment layer(s) and the layer you want to adjust with them together (Layers > Merge Down) Solution from this thread
Still not the complete solution! When exporting, change the Rasterize option in the export settings to "nothing", Solution from this thread
Works now and will send it to the printer again.
Again @affinity, these things can kill your reputation as an adobe alternative. I hope you know that.

They already got a RAW developer and other capabilities, they "just" need to build a catalog and UI around that. I would be happy even with a minimum viable product for the beginning.

What I hate in general are expensive subscriptions for software that would run  perfectly fine without on my computer. Adobe is there no exception just a very greedy one. I would blindly buy another LR version for 100-200€ but no damn subscription!

I'm sad to come back to this topic and still nothing new about Serif working on a replacement for LR.

It is impressive how the workarounds gather here in such short time. But please lets not forget, that this shouldn't be the standard!

I expect a defined behaviour (spot, overprint) to export without any side effects because a pixel mask is involved or I have a pixel layer which is using the spot color. At least give us a warning like "Dear User, your spot color will be rasterized back to cmyk because the software currently can't render this combination into a X Standard PDF"
Again, I had a whole 200€ printjob partly ruined because of this. Yes I could have check the seperation preview but I didn't. That was caused by my trust in this software, bc it worked before and why shouldn't it work now. Plus the software displays everything correct!

I thought I was crazy because the document (colors, overprinting etc.) in publisher was completely correct from my PoV but the seperation preview of the printfile said "no it is not!" I am pretty experienced (15 years now) but it took me a while to figure this out. This should never have find its way into any release ever, period.
    PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP!

I'm pretty puzzled to learn this the hard way by a completely ruined printjob.

Same thing with a spot color in a pixel mask. Even a pixel layer in that very spot color with all the correct settings does not export as spot and overprinting but in regular cmyk (I know the spot color works correct, bc the same spot color is used in another path object without mask and that printed correctly)
I was just about to get serious with using publisher for regular projects. But now I start to get suspicious again. I really like the workflow, especially the personas in Publisher. Only one app open, what a dream. And then this ruined print job  lucky me it was "only" 200€...

A good integrated DAM option is the next big feature that needs adding to the Affinity suite.
It's tickling in with the new resource manager features in 1.9 and that is a good omen that this will come in time.

For me it needs to support every format the suite currently supports, plus video and audio formats.
It needs the ability to create virtual collections within it's database, also automatically generated (smart) collections based on user defined rules .

Another feature that will take the suite up to another level is the ability to save history steps to side car files to make parametric changes (particularly to RAW photos) repeatable and changeable. That would then bring Affinity Photo's capabilities up to properly compete with Lightroom and Capture One. That would also allow virtual copies in the DAM.

Please guys this is not only an ideal tool it is absolutely necessary in any case. I am sure you can do it. I've installed the latest version of Affinity Design with so much hope that this would be done already, but... nothing still. Please, Please, try to fix this. Thank you.

Except that users (new ones, especially) are then required to know that this is the way to do things...
+1 for this feature. I just imported a SVG, had no control of the creation of the illustration, and am now wishing I could easily select all objects with fill colors of "X" for some quick edits. Setting the file up with global colors from the get go is a ship that has sailed. As has the wish for quick edits.

Whatever nice stuff is in the updates, would you please make it possible to finally save an individual top bar or a whole workspace? Installed the updates (for all three apps, should not have done that) opened them and gone were my top bar setups. This ist so annoying. I can save shortcuts and studio windows, but why can't I just save my entire workspace as I set it up. Basic requirement, really.
Thanks for finally making IDML import happen, this really is a huge step forward.

Will the ability to change an existing colour from spot to global/cmyk and vice versa be added in a future update?
This does seem a restriction, as it stands at the moment.
Coming from InDesign it is easy to change the colours between Spot/cmyk, very useful if someone has added lots of spot colours to a job whilst they are designing it, and you need to change those to cmyk to stop them from outputting to separate plates.
Will the ability to show the overprint in Publisher be added at some stage?

From what I've seen, Hide Overflow is the default (at least on Windows). However, as with other tools, the tool defaults can be changed and maybe you've done that. (Or, maybe Publisher on Mac has different defaults.)

    Hello @Gigiga,
to save workspaces is some sort of a popular request around here, you are not alone  and it does make sense, IMHO.
It just isn't implemented and - to be honest - I do not know of any indication when this feature will come.

I know it is still Beta and for as much I can say, AP blows InDesign out of the way or is at least on the same level, I am a bit confused. I arranged my workspace so I can use it as I like/being used to from ID and didn't find any option to save that. So I assumed it would stay the same after an update. Luckily I saved my shortcuts. The option is quit easy to see. But my whole Workspace settings are gone, that should definitely be improved by giving one the option to adjust the workspace according to their preferences.
I also have multiple workspaces saved in ID now to work on books with the focus on formats of text and paragraphs, and a workspace for designing and playing for example which is completly different.
Or did I overlook some function saving me the stupid fault I made by just updating?
Please don't get me wrong, I am not complaining about this, it is just a function that is important for many users and I did'nt found anything related to this in the search.
    Keep up the great work!
EDIT: Tools stayed as I arranged them, only Studio Windows are completly reset.
