    Hi lexybarton
We currently don't support emoji based fonts of any kind including apple's own ones so this will most likely be the case
    Thanks

This is not limited to color emoji fonts. There is no color font support for any of the 3 main color font formats in Affinity applications.

    @RNKLN
it's interesting, that you get the color font shown in the selector. I tried with the test version of AD (besides full versions of AP and AP (^^) ), and in none of the apps I see the fonts in color, neither in the selector. maybe it's beacuse of the OS, I'm using windows - win 10, which is said to be able to handle color fonts, and in a compatible browser color fonts really are displayed.
    @Pšenda
it's not that I didn't find the request from February 2018 (!) in the forums.
but as one and a half years are gone since, I wanted to give it a try and ask whether something has changed and color fonts maybe are on the agenda now.
and also I wanted to show some interest in this. a function noone ever asked for surely will not be implemented, but...

It can be annoying, being able to keep the stroke width using a modifier key while clicking on another brush, or checking a case to prevent it would be helpfull.

    Hi Helmar,
A considerable amount of requests were created as soon as the first release (1.0) come out - so yes you will find a quite few (old ones) that aren't yet in the program. This doesn't mean we haven't been working on the apps all these years, moving on according to what we planned as well as adding user's requested features whenever possible.
Since then we expanded and/or implemented various (other) new features, advanced with cross platform expansion (Windows, iOS) and recently completed the suite with Publisher. These things were necessary to keep expanding the user base and ultimately funding further development (as you probably know all minor updates are free so we get no money from them). New platforms and new users help us sustain grow until v2 of all apps come in.
Work on third party file formats/support - like smart objects or editable text export support just to name a couple - or any non-planned major features usually require quite some time/resources (besides heavy testing) and as such it's not always possible to pick tasks like these at will without compromising the balance of the whole development. We have been getting/hiring new programers for quite a while now however that's not as easy as it may seems and even when we do hire there's always a considerable period of time required to get acquainted to the code, workflows and the rest of the team.

    Status: Beta
    Purpose: Improvements, Fixes

    Mac App Store: Not submitted
    Download: Download
    Auto-update: Not Applicable
    ---
    Hi,
We are pleased to announce that the first customer beta of Affinity Publisher (1.7.2.420) is now available as a download from the link above. Build 420 has replaced Build 419 which has been withdrawn.
If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app please note that the beta will install as a separate app alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.
The beta is an incremental update to the 1.7.1 store version. We recommend that you use this beta in preference to your store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.
If you have any problems using this version please make a new topic in this forum and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Please feel free to leave general suggestions and comments in the Discussion Forum.

StudioLink in this Beta requires Beta versions of Designer and Photo to function. We are hoping a Designer Beta will become available for macOS soon.

Okay, if we arrive at discussing dots a.k.a. periods, we are rightly called pedantic …
Nonetheless, there is a period after “Aktuelle Füllung zur Palette hinzufügen,” but no such period in comparable places (which I find correct). Gosh, we have problems …

On a more serious note, I would suggest using “Formatsatz” (“stylistic set”) instead of “Stilset.” The first one is the received OpenType terminology in German. Have a look, for instance, at:
    https://www.typografie.info/3/wiki.html/o/opentype-feature-r124/
I would suggest that you also check the other terms on the German typography panel. For instance, “Stylistic Alternates” is usually rendered as “Formatvarianten.” But “Stilset” is perhaps the most uncommon translation …

Helmar got a reaction from jamesholden in Plugin Support for FCPX / Premiere etc title plugins
One thing that keeps popping into my mind is this: There are tons of title plugins for FCPX/Premiere, but they are only usable within said application(s). For things like Youtube cover pic graphics, social media graphics etc it would be "strange" to create those within FCPX or Premiere with its "timeline" layout. For that one should use Designer, which is document-centric.
Long story short: it would be absolutely "KILLER" if Designer was able to utilise those plugins in a static document environment.
Over to you, guys, and for all those sympathizing with me, please leave a comment or a "bump". Thank you!

Helmar got a reaction from Lelana in How can I open Indesign (indd and idml) Files in Publisher?
    Here's my take:
I have been using ID for over 10 years now. Just as Adobe reminded me of their annual $$$ subscription, I looked at Serif for my manna, and I found it. I was so delighted to see the Publisher Beta being available.
I quickly downloaded and installed it, played around and tested it. Found some features still lacking (hence beta), but overall I am very delighted.
The issue with INDD and IDML import is a transitory one. IDML will be easier to handle than INDD. BUT... only for a short time. Then  you will find yourself creating more and more in Publisher, until Indesign is a relict of the past in your cranial cavity. It's been like this before. When I moved from Windows to Mac, I sorely missed Editplus and Total Commander. Now I am very happy with BBEdit and Forklift/Crax Commander. Are they identical? No, but you get used to.
I had a really good look at Publisher, and bar a few things, it does everything that 90% of the people who use Indesign do. Give it some time, and this figure will be closer to 100%. I for one cannot wait, and even if they only charge 50 Euro for the thingy, I will send them at least 300. Why? Because they deserve every bit of it. And the awesome thing is that it will NOT HAVE TO integrate with Photoshop or Illustrator, because all that functionality is available right from within the app, thanks to Photo and Designer.
So there. Vote with your money. Send it to them now, while they are still developing. Help spread the word. That will be worth its weight in gold - for us all. And as for Adobe, don't pay attention to them. Just don't.
    Cheers,
    Helmar

Helmar reacted to Medical Officer Bones in No column Grid?
The "Create Guides" function in InDesign is one of my favourite and most-used features in that app. I create a lot of column/row based basic grids, sub-grids, and after installing Publisher and running it one of the very first few things I expected to find was a similar guide column builder, but to my astonishment it wasn't there.
However, Publisher falls utterly flat on its face due to how the handling of guides is integrated. The reason why InDesign's guides work so wonderfully well is very simple, yet effective: guides are treated just like any other object, and are attached to the selected layer you happen to be working in. This effectively means an entire system of grids and sub-grids and helper guides may be built, organized, and maintained through multiple layers. And the colours of individual guides can be changed as well allowing for very intricate and useful nested layout grids to be built.
Publisher's guides are treated like "special" things that do not "live" on any particular layer, but instead are always put in an invisible guides layer over which the user has little or no control. All guides are on or off, and cannot have individual colours, or be managed in groups/layers at all.
In short, nigh on absolutely useless for more complex layout grids. Having access to only one hidden guides layer is SO ill-conceived that I wonder if the developers actually discussed basic layout techniques and workflows with magazine and book designers and creators.
Only allowing for one singular fixed guides "layer" is a fundamental short-coming of many layout apps. Not offering a good column/row generator either is a second unforgivable mistake from the perspective of anyone laying out semi-complex layouts on a daily basis.
The combination of these two missing options in a new young DTP contender on the market is very, very unfortunate, automatically ruling it out for me or anyone even remotely interested in elaborate grid-based layouting. And even if Publisher received the best grid builder in the world, the lack of layer-based guides in this version would make it rather of limited use anyway. The two go together hand in hand.
Seeing how the guides are implemented on a rather low level in the apps architecture, I don't expect the Affinity developers to re-code this any time soon. At least, I really, REALLY want to be proved wrong here.
If these fundamental shortcomings aren't taken care of at some point, Publisher will remain of quite limited attraction to myself and fellow complex layout grid "layouters". What a shame this would be.
