In Adobe InDesign, one can drag a Page icon from the Pages window into the Master Pages window to create a Master from a Page.
One can also select a page or a spread, then, from the Pages panel options menu, select the command to "Save as Master".

I've been working through the Help Files for Publisher 1.7.0.192.
It would be very good for the final shipping version of Publisher to include the ability to create Paragraph Styles with multiple nested Character Styles. For example, one might want the first three words of a paragraph to be formatted as bold small caps, followed by italics up to the first period, before resuming the base paragraph style. This could also be useful for tables, menu items, etc., where one might want a product name in one style, followed by a tab with dot leader, followed by a price in another style.
There is nothing currently within the Help files for creating nested Character styles within a Paragraph style, but I see in the Paragraph style edit dialogue box that there is a relevant item labeled "Initial Words". Here one can can set up a nested Character style to apply to a specified number of words, or up to an "End Character". But this feature needs to become more robust.
Within InDesign, one can set up a sequence of nested Character Styles to apply to the beginnings of specific Paragraph styles. Moreover, one can use operators such as "up to" or "through" to specify that Character Styles apply to sentences, lines, characters, digits, or words. Nested Character Styles can be terminated by a character, word, line or sentence count, or they can be terminated by tabs or other specially inserted characters.
Please add the ability to create Paragraph Styles with multiple nested Character Styles for the final shipping version of Publisher.

Walt,
Thank you. That works.

I've been working through the Help files for Publisher 1.7.0.192.
Is it possible to edit the vector shape of a custom Text Frame curve/shape after it has been filled with text?
If so, how?
If not, I would like to suggest that this feature be incorporated into the final shipping version of Publisher.

Regarding work with the Text tools, would it be possible to assign a toggle key that would allow the user to temporarily transform the Text tool into a Move tool while the toggle key is held down for the purpose of moving or resizing the Text frame/object, or for deselecting the Text frame/object?
In the Adobe products, this is possible by holding down the Command key.

Dominik,
Thank you. That makes sense.
I know that in Adobe Illustrator one can use a grayscale gradient fill within a masking vector shape to achieve gradient masks. One can also use greyscale photos as a kind of alpha channel to produce partial masks. Is that possible within Publisher, or is Publisher limited to simple cutouts?

Elmonopascual,
Thank you. You were right. I must have switched off the Sync button and disconnected the fill from the Symbol.
I just conducted a second test, and fills and strokes for both Shapes and Curves updated correctly when the Sync button was depressed.
I guess the help file was a little unclear.
Is it possible to reset a symbol that has had either its fill or stroke disconnected from the Sync?
-
I've been working through the help files.
Regarding Symbols, I've found two issues:
- The help files on the subject of synchronization are not clear.
-
It appears that color and weight attributes for strokes synchronize, but the color attribute for fill does not. (EDIT:Color attribute does not synch for Shapes, but does synch if the Shape is converted to a Curve.)
(EDIT 2: I've conducted a second test, and the synchronization does work for fills and strokes for both Shapes and Curves. I didn't understand how the Synch button was supposed to work. Perhaps the Help files could be a little more explicit.)

I'm just now working though the help files for Publisher, getting to know the application.
With regard to using empty mask layers, it's easy enough to click the "Mask Layer" button at the bottom of the Layers panel to create an empty mask layer, but how is one meant to use it?
I've tried to draw directly on the mask layer to add a masking element, but I'm unable to do so. I can't find any guidance on how one is supposed to use an empty mask layer in the Help files. What am I missing here?

Let me add an addendum. The following would also be nice to have in the final version of Publisher:
- Include a gradient editor panel along side the Swatches panel in the collection of Studio panels. Or, include the proposed gradient editor with the Colour panel as an option from the Colour options menu.
- Allow the proposed gradient editor panel to save gradient swatches to a custom palette.
- Add a swatch type filter to the Swatches panel to allow users to see either a mix of solid and gradient swatches, or to filter out either the solid or gradient swatches from view.

Seneca,
Thank you for the tip. I suppose they'll document this in the help files later.
BTW, what is the significance of the "Replace Existing" check box in the "Apply Master" dialogue box? What are the effects of either choice?
-
Adam,
Thanks for the response.
I'm currently using v. 1.7.0.174.
How does one create a "child" master page currently? When I click the "Add Master" button, the resulting dialogue box doesn't indicate the option to base the new master on an existing master. What am I missing?

With regard to Master Page capabilities, it would be nice for the final shipping version of Publisher to allow users to do the following:
- Create "child" master pages that inherit the properties of a "parent" master page.
- Overide selected master page elements on individual pages to which the master is applied. For example, one might have a Master A with a variety of standard repeating elements, including a logo in the upper margin, but have the need to detach and delete the logo for one page. Or one might want the master page to show a place-holder text and/or photo frame, and have the need to detach the text and/or photo frame to replace placeholder content with actual text or photos.

With regard to Colour Swatch management, it would be nice for the final shipping version of Publisher to allow users to do the following:
- Organize swatches into named groups within named palettes. For example, within a palette named "My Palette", having the ability to create named folder groupings of swatches that I might name "Primary", "Secondary", "Accent", and so on.
- Select two or more swatches, or even a named group of swatches (by shift-clicking or command-clicking), and then being able to move them collectively to a different named palette or sub-grouping in one move.
- Select two or more swatches, and then being able to delete them collectively in one move.

Threaded text frames already exist within Affinity Designer? I haven't found any guidance on that within the help files.
How does one link text frames within an Affinity Designer document?
-
Threaded text frames is a feature that really must be incorporated into an update to Affinity Designer. Even for a one-page event poster, it would be useful to be able to thread text through multiple frames.
Please incorporate the threaded text frame feature into Designer once you've perfected it within Publisher.
Thank you.

I'm currently working my way through the Publisher 1.7.0.192 Help files.
Just discovered a bug. When I double click on a Power Field list item in the Fields panel to insert a Power Field, Publisher crashes.
