Hi and thanks for your reply.
I, as you kindly suggested, tried fast raw viewer and the RAW file is as bright as it is in camera. Put it into Affinity it is very dark (i fear I have fiddled with some settings in Affinity and cant recall what)
Attached are a RAW and JPEG (for comparison) image of my not so exciting desk!
Thanks for your time on this.

Hi and thanks. Sadly that has not sorted it. I did restart affinity after adjustments

Hi all
Sorry but I have been fiddling with something and now when I import a RAW file direct from SD card or via Photo Mechanic (PM)the image in the Affinity window is very dark. Its great in the camera and PM
JPEGS are fine
What have I done and how can I cure this
Many thanks

Hi, I wonder if you are following this post. After the support of Dan C and his advice I can import XMP sidecar files.

Hi and thanks. Mac user so windows update is not for me. However I have learnt that AP will not accept sidecar files no matter what. So am forced into either using JPEGs for my tagging etc or and I am very tempted, move away from AP and use a post processing app that does
Stay safe all

You should be able to use AP to edit RAW files that have been developed in other apps & saved (for example) as TIFF files, & to open many but not all kinds of RAW files directly in AP to develop them. But you can't use the XMP sidecar file in any way with AP.
OK and thanks

According to this, XMP is a file that contains metadata about edits made to a camera raw file. IOW, it is not a RAW file but a type of what is usually called a 'sidecar' file that is used by some apps (but unfortunately not AP) along with the RAW file, typically to provide ways to 'undo' certain edits.
Hi and wow that was quick. So in simple terms (for me) PhotoMechanic and AP when using RAW is not for me? Any suggestions for a DAM app ?

Hi, I am running a trial version of Photo Mechanic as my Data Asset Management for applying such information as key words. I apply the IPTC template to the image OK but when I click on the Photo Mechanic image for dragging over to Affinity I see that it highlights x2 files and when I drag the RAW file over the Affinity I get an error message XMP not compatible. The subsequent file is stripped of the IPTC template info. (this does not happen with a JPEG file.
1) Do I need to change something in Affinity
2) Is Photomechanic just not compatible with Affinity
3) Most important I guess - what do my fellow Affinity users us as a DAM
Many thanks

I was up loading 38 files from Photo Mechanic for further processing and fear I have clicked something on affinity as all the images are presented as overlaid tiles
Affinity v 1-10-4
Mac Os High Sierra 10.13.6
When I open affinity now I only get what is now displayed on this screen shot
How do I get back to my normal view
I have down loaded from scratch and fired up that download but still get the same result

We update the lens profiles periodically; in the meantime, if there is a profile from LensFun that you'd like to bring into the app, you can import them.
Here is the procedure on desktop:
- Go to Preferences
- Choose "Open Lens Profiles Folder in Finder" (Mac) or "Open Lens Profiles Folder in Explorer…" (Windows)
- Copy your downloaded XML file into the folder
- Restart the app
Then, if the profile is not automatically detected by Develop Persona, you can still select it manually from the Lens Profiles list.
Hope this helps!
Hi and again thanks, locating the list of profiles at LensFun is my next task
Kind regards

For what it's worth, LensFun is still a very active project; the community continues to contribute on a regular basis. The last commit was just two days ago!
Hi and thanks for your speedy response. So, is there / what is the route for getting lens profiles up onto the Affinity Lens profile in develop persona. Be kind as I am obviously a newby to this
Kind regards

We use the LensFun database of lens corrections and the list of the supported lenses can be found in the link below, once they release and update for the Fuji lenses you can download the file from them and place it into Affinity Photo's Lens Profile folder and the app will then make this update available in the Develop persona
Hi
Back in Aug 21 I posted about lens profile updates.
I wonder if Affinity have adopted a fresh approach regarding lens profiles particularly as Lensfun is not producing anymore
Kind regards

Hi, I do like your displayed name. When I 1st read your reply - for which I thank you - I was on my phone and thought "what I have I done wrong now?"
Anyhow, thanks again for your reply when next with a clear sky I will have a session specifically built for stacking
Kind regards

Advice sought on how to stack multiple images of stars (taken in one session) in order to create a single star trail image please.
Fairly simple terms if you would as very new to this aspect
-
I am in total agreement with you.
Affinity is so good in so many ways yet adopting this attitude is poor
-
Yes, absolutely

Hi and thanks for your comment.
Your sophistication is very much higher than mine.
A path I am progressing along.

Hi and thanks very much for your speedy reply.
Sadly not only are the lenses I seek correction ability not on the list (not on development list either) but it looks very much like the person running the site is stopping, I quote
""
Currently, I do not have time to maintain the Lensfun project in way that is satisfactory for myself, for the community and for the users. This project really needs someone who takes a look at the bigger picture and has the vision and motivation to keep the project alive and in a good condition.
Therefore, I would like to ask the community to take over the Lensfun project management and maintenance in the next months. I will still be around and contribute from time to time. But to be realistic, none of the above listed changes will happen if no one else kicks in and does the job. Ideally, Lensfun is taken under the hood of a bigger project with experienced developers like e.g. Darktable or Rawtherapee that already makes use of Lensfun.
""
Additionally but understandably there are no means of contacting Lensfun
So I guess that the lenses I seek correction for will not be appearing anytime soon
Your thoughts?

Hi team
Can I ask please when / if your list of lenses in the Develop Persona - Lens Correction will be updated to include

Fuji XF8-16 2.8 R LM WR
Fuji XF 200 F2 R LM OIS WR and
Fuji XF 200 F2 R LM OIS WR and 1.4 convertor
Many thanks

Hi, yes an Affinity tutorial on Soft Proofing would be ideal. However I found this very helpful.

Hi and thanks for your time and response.
I am content to do the lens thing manually and wait for the Affinity up date as and when it happens.

Morning Gabe and thanks for your reply
RAW file attached (I checked it before sending and the lens does not feature in the auto detect)
The firmware for camera is up to date and I am using the latest version of Affinity
Kind regards
Very dark image when importing

Hi and thanks very much for your response. I totally agree a far better image after applying the tone curve.
I was rather trying to start with my image in a better 'state' to begin with. Hey Ho but thanks very much for looking into this for me
