MÅNEMANN got a reaction from nickbatz in You cannot choose the image resolution (dpi) when exporting.
@CatshillI'm not sure what you mean, you're thinking print? I need to deliver png's to the programmer that have a specific resolution specified by DPI.
@nickbatz That might be a workaround! I thought of doing something like that. Thanks for the trick. Still wish it could be set in the export though.

MÅNEMANN got a reaction from kyptanuy in You cannot choose the image resolution (dpi) when exporting.
It would be really helpful to have the option to choose a specific DPI/PPI, in both desktop and iPad versions. At the team I'm working at I need to export to SVG and send it to a coworker, only so he can then open it in Photoshop and export it to PNG in the right DPI. It's a tedious process. In so many ways, the Affinity applications are fully competitive with Adobe, but this little detail makes a PS license necessary.

MÅNEMANN reacted to squarecandy in Text Anti-aliasing Method
What is the equivalent to text antialiasing : none using the blend options?
I want to get pixel fonts to display exactly as they were designed and I'm having trouble using the coverage map to accomplish this.
Love the fine grained detail you can get with these blend options, but they are too time consuming to play with for most applications.
Would love to see presets added to this features with some basic sharp/strong/smooth/none options for starters and ability to save your own too.
Thanks!

MÅNEMANN reacted to Stoat256 in Please add "Drag+alt to use color picker" to the Flood Fill tool
I found myself really wishing for this feature while attempting to flat a comic page in AP, I assume this would also have a lot of utility in other illustration work. The functionality already exists in the paint brush and pixel brush tools, so hopefully it's not too much trouble to implement it (also, while you are at it, can you add the Pixel Brush's "ctrl to erase" feature to the paint brush?)
Keep up the good work.

MÅNEMANN got a reaction from Ivan C in Live Paint Bucket equivalent
Live paint bucket is one of the features that would be really neat to have, and it's kind of a shame that it's so silent from the devs. But there's probably a lot going on under the surface of the app that makes it more complicated than it seems, and we should all be grateful for these amazing Affinity apps that are already, not only giving Adobe the competition they've needed for too long, but also murdering the standards of what's possible on a tablet. I feel like my iPad leveled up 10 times when i installed Affinity Designer and Photo.
So please think of this before being too harsh. That said I'm also eager to see the live paint bucket update one day, rather sooner than later!

MÅNEMANN reacted to MEB in What is 'Allow advanced features' for in pdf export?
Hi osang,
You can find all export options explained on the Help file here:
DESIGNER: Help ▸ Affinity Designer Help ▸ Exporting ▸ Export Options panel
PHOTO: Help ▸ Affinity Photo Help ▸ Export Persona ▸ Export Options panel
Regarding Allow advanced features, Affinity will try to output all elements supported by the PDF format/spec as vectors like text with strokes applied, linear and radial gradients etc
Note this may cause issues when trying to open the resulting PDF file on third party apps. Please check the help file for details.

MÅNEMANN reacted to machineboy in Nearest neighbor scaling of text and layers
Setting the view quality to Nearest Neigbour does not affect layer scaling. Also, it's impossible to create non-aliased text with AP without a proper nearest neighbour mode. Raserizing a pixelart image layer smooths it to oblivion, so unfortunately in its current state it's not possible to work with pixel art layers and text in Affinity (Pixelate filter is not viable since it doesn't remove the aliased pixels which ruins pixel art).
An example included, with
1. Original sprite
2. Scaled up with yucky aliasing
3. Horrible mush when rasterizing layer

MÅNEMANN reacted to machineboy in Nearest neighbor scaling of text and layers
AP is great, but for pixel art it's lacking a very basic feature: a nearest neighbor/hard pixel scale mode option when scaling layers, objects and text.
Right now AP is not suitable for retaining the look of pixel art when working with layers and text, and would make a great addition since it's already so good at everything else!

MÅNEMANN reacted to DM1 in Is there a way to “lock transparency” or “alpha lock” on Affinity Designer iPad
Clip the pink layer onto the black layer so only the pink on black shows.

MÅNEMANN reacted to MEB in Use of Pen, Pencil and Vector Brush
There are no foolish questions...
The Pen Tool gives you more control over your lines. You have to place each point individually and thus define the shape of each path with a great level of precision. You can assign pressure profiles, but you can't control them directly (the width) while you draw them. The result is pure vector paths.
The Pencil Tool gives you freedom. You don't place nodes individually. You draw the lines in their entirety. It leads to more expressive paths, like in hand-drawing. You can control their width with pressure sensitive tablets while you draw them. But, they are still simple lines (paths) with variation in width. The result is pure vector paths. It's great for inking or free-drawing where the expressiveness given by the width variation is important (cartoons; for example).
The Brush Tool is similar to the Pencil Tool regarding the freedom to control the tool while you draw. But, here you can attach a bitmap texture to create a multitude of organic/natural effects. The pressure (or other controller) define how those strokes will be drawn. The result is a bitmap based stroke. If you zoom in enough you will start to see the smoothing effect applied by AD to the pixels (to avoid pixelation). So it's wise to use high-res textures if you want to keep the detail of the texture used to create the brush. There's a multitude of uses for this, but the end goal is to get a more natural, less synthetic look. Since you can create you own brushes, it allows a more personalized/distinct result. It lets you develop a style if you will.
In all the three cases you can still change to the Node Tool to correct/adjust the nodes/paths created by those tools, which gives you more control than painting/drawing directly with pixels.

MÅNEMANN reacted to R C-R in How do I set stroke width in Photo for iPad?
This is probably one of those things that should be obvious, but after searching the built-in help for ½ an hour without finding the answer I gave up & am asking about it here. So far, the only thing I have managed to do is set the stroke of a vector object to either no color or a color in the Color Studio, so I know a stroke property is supported, but how do I change its width?

MÅNEMANN reacted to Alfred in How do I set stroke width in Photo for iPad?
As far as I can see, the only way to do it is via the control that appears when you choose the Pen Tool.

MÅNEMANN reacted to DM1 in AD for iPad: invert pixel selection?
If you use Resize and change Document to Canvas in the Context menu then change the dimensions, you will resize the canvas without resizing your document. Eg reducing size of canvas, object may be too big to fit.

MÅNEMANN reacted to Girlvsworld in Character/text styles Designer ipad
Hello, is it possible to create character styles in Designer, that can be used across different text blocks or files? Until publisher is available on iPad (hopefully!) I’m doing layouts in Designer and would like to be able to apply text styles across several documents. Thanks!

MÅNEMANN reacted to dorian in Vector brush tool smoothing – Affinity Designer – I want it off.
Thanks for confirming this. I hope my request will be considered. I'm quite sure I'm not the only one anyway.
How about making some polls to help/convince the developers?

MÅNEMANN reacted to Gabe in Vector brush tool smoothing – Affinity Designer – I want it off.
Hi Dorian,
Welcome to the forums.
There is no option to disable it at the moment.
I've moved it to our feature requests section.
Thanks,
Gabe.

MÅNEMANN reacted to dorian in Vector brush tool smoothing – Affinity Designer – I want it off.
Hello Forum :)
Is there a way of switching OFF the smoothing on the Vector brush tool?
It makes freehand drawing a little too automatic for me. I want all the imperfections of my line drawing. ;)
I have the same request for the iPad version...
I could not find anything in the settings either.

MÅNEMANN reacted to Alfred in is Crop to selection possible
Although I don’t agree with @toltec’s assertion that ‘Crop to Selection’ is a terrible idea, he quite rightly points out that there are several quick and easy ways of achieving the desired end result.

MÅNEMANN reacted to Markcq in Live Paint Bucket equivalent
Definitely +1.
I do a lot of geometric art and complex charts. I use the live paint tool in illustrator all the time. So now, whenever I need to create one of these I have to go back into Illustrator. I really would like to ditch Adobe and only use Affinity.
