On the VIVADesigner website it only says the IDML files can be imported from or exported to InDesign; "Due to the excellent Import and Export functions of the Viva technology, InDesign® documents w.e.f. version CS4 in IDML format can be imported and also re-exported to InDesign®." I accomplished what I wanted (not perfect, but much better) by using a New Live Filter Layer >Blur > Median. 20 px; 68%; Average. Details in the eyes, etc were excluded. The selection brush is quite accurate once you get used to playing with the size keys [ ] . Way back in the day I could have retouched it using pencil on a 4x5 neg. (/brag)

Aff Photo 1.9.2.1035-Win 7 I have an H&S RGB portrait photo jpg file that was scanned and the scanner left slightly visible bars on the face and forehead. Pls see attached sample of cheek. Is there a quick way of removing them, or at least ameliorating them? If you sit way back from your screen they're visible.TIA.

What I had in mind was a simple A -> B or A -> B -> C -> D measuring tool. That should be easy enough to implement in the Affinity suite. My buddy has an NCD cutter in his garage that follows a line with a blade or a milling tool to cut out complex forms, logos, etc. A specialized tool for a specialized use.

I did manage to get my Brushes panel to show by un-clicking Studio-> Brushes (thanks, guys) and then clicking on Studio-> Brushes again. Here is my current brushes panel (more brushes at bottom). Why there is such a huge gap at the start, I don't know. But it's progress ... of a sort.

The sub brushes (whatever they are) but can't delete them.

Photo 1.9.2.1035, Win 7 I seem to have created a monster: a rectangular brush I cannot get rid of. I also tried to create an image brush following all of James' steps in his tutorial bur could not see it being saved. Then I tried exporting something the pixel layer and it must have ended up somewhere but I can't import it. Confused? So am I. It's all quite a mess, really. My omnipresent monster never goes away, even after editing and I have no other brushes to choose from. Where are the brushes?

For one or two simple measurements between 2 points I use a 1990's kludge: Draw a box between them, or a line, and get the dimension off the Transform palette. Works with all 3 pgms. But really Affinity, You should at least have a tape measure.

Native Indd files not likely. Via IDML, it is possible in Affinity Publisher. Last November Eddie Aguirre said "Any of you guys on a Mac looking for a way to convert your native InDesign files to Affinity Publisher (through IDML), IDMarkz, might be the tool you need. As many of you have mentioned, this can be done using InDesign, but if you're looking for a long-term solution that makes the process seamless, check out this video showing how simple the conversion process is. The video shows the process with an older version of Publisher, but the current version will convert using an IDML rather than PDF." I asked about a WIN solutions and Eddie said: "It's in the works."?

I'll go one further and suggest that the DEFAULT for filler text should be ADJUSTABLE text and that the switch in the Filler Text panel would be labelled as "Make filler text properties UN-adjustable" (or something like that). R

One size does not fit all. I can not imagine using filler text in Photo or Design. What for? But if they claim to worship at the Temple of Consistency, which they don't, then real consistency would have the Filler Text panel in all 3 apps. And, Clip/unclip canvas would be found in the same place and do the same thing. Yes? They aren't and it doesn't. Try it. I'm not sure the if UI was designed or "It just growed."

Not a reference to my quote, but good to know (for those who still use InDesign). I can see possibly using character leading for a title design or a sub-heading but space after (or before) is probably more useful for sub-heads. Playing around with automatic Filler text, I find it less than useful because you can't select specific lines or paragraphs (at least I couldn't). Maybe I haven't played with it enough. I prefer my own filler text file.

Here's a suggestion: Bring the leading over to the type spec in the UI. See attached. Or give users the option of re-arragning the UI.

Leading is not a character spec. You don't lead one character; you might raise it, but not lead it. People don't set type o n e c h a r a c h t e r at a time. Leading is a function of lines of type, therefore it is a paragraph spec normally found in paragraph styles. Affinity screwed up on this. My next lesson will be on Kerning: What it really means for designers.

My mistake—it happens occasionally. What I meant to say was "If only type specs for typeface, font, size and leading had all been combined in one place (preferably under Paragraph, but I guess Character would do) it would be good. Type is always spec'd as "10/12" or "10 on 12", height and leading together.
