Just an FYI, I don't know any design program that has that feature. It's a coding thing, CSS/HTML, not a design thing. Certainly not offered by InDesign. Definitely not in something more basic like Excel.
You can select a column and tell it how wide to be. When you adjust other columns, it won't affect the size of the column you've specified a width for. So simply set each of those dummy columns to your preferred width, and you're good to go.

still waiting for reflowing embedded content like images ....
it's really critical for any DTP workflow .. I know Affinity say it's on the to-do list but it should be a higher priority than some of the things on that changeling list ...
let's put it plainly - DTP is not Designer with Pages - it's for working with documents of many pages .. changes to layout, styles, margins, boxes, .. will cause text to move .. and you want anchored content like diagrams to also move intelligently .. you don't want to do that manually for documents of more than 5 pages.
    that is pretty core.

    Status: Public Beta
    Purpose: Stability and General Testing
Requirements: Mac OS 10.9 or above
    Hi,
We are pleased to announce that Affinity Publisher build 257 is now available as a manual download from the link above and on auto-update.
As this is a beta it is considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity where you may be adversely affected by the application failing, including the total loss of any documents.
We hope you enjoy the product, and as always, if you've got any problems installing or running up, please don't hesitate to post in this thread.
Any problems actually using this version please make a new topic in this forum and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. Please feel free to leave general suggestions and comments in the Discussion Forum.
Many thanks for your continued feedback.

cubesquareredux got a reaction from Läppä in Affinity Publisher Public Beta - 1.7.0.249
The following is not a bug report. It is an appreciation.
I have to say that the quality of Affinity's beta software is better in many respects than "finished" software sold by certain other companies.
Three simple examples (just FYI, I'm on a Mac using OS 10.13.6):
    1. It may be that I am a lousy beta-tester – perhaps I am not pushing these betas to their limit – but I swear that not one of them has ever "hung" or "crashed" on me, not even once! I have no idea how you people do it but I have to admit to a certain amount of amazement.
    2. When I use Affinity's betas to open a file that was created in an older non-beta version, I get a sensible dialog with careful and clear options. Small details like this can be extremely important!
    3. Tiny details are fixed in the betas that are not even detailed in the release notes. For example in Designer, text boxes "usually" have 8 re-sizing handles, but two of them on mid-points can vanish if your zoom is set "too low." In previous betas, the work-around was to zoom in, at which point the "missing" handles would re-appear. In recent betas, you can re-size the text box even if you can't see the "missing" handles. I presume the latter (new) behaviour is intended and I, for one, certainly notice and appreciate it!
These are just three examples. I could go on but … in short … THANKS FOR MAKING GREAT SOFTWARE!

Thank you for your help. It was a new install of the most recent beta and a newly created document. I will restart my Mac and try again. It’s not an urgent matter, I just wanted to let the Affinity Publisher team beware of the issue.

But did you try to restart Publisher and try this in a newly created document?

I would like to be able to copy a master page from one document to another. I've made a similar request previously about standard pages.
There are three ways this could be done in my mind:
Copy and paste Drag and drop Choose insert from page panel and select document to insert from I don't really mind which but ideally all three would be an option in due course.

Yeah, why bother with copy and paste generally. Or for that matter, any kind of convenient feature. If you aren't suffering you aren't doing it properly.

cubesquareredux reacted to Patrick Connor in Reporting Localisation issues in Mac Publisher Beta #249
The current Affinity Publisher Mac public beta #249 has all UI locales available, (and is no longer restricted to UK English since #238).
In the app menu, Preferences > General you can choose any of the 10 languages, restart the application and experience Affinity Publisher in that locale.
We do not expect to have got all the localisation correct yet and possibly we are not using the standard terms, so if you see any words or phrases that are out of the ordinary, or are clipped/cropped short in the MacOS build PLEASE report them in this thread, stating the language and version you are running and what OS you are seeing the problem on.
Use this thread (Do not make new threads) unless you are seeing a bug that does not happen in English, so Bugs in new threads, localisation issues in this thread

cubesquareredux reacted to A_B_C in Text Wrap Issue
Well, that’s not entirely true, of course. You can always use a transparent rectangle beneath your image that serves as a spacing element. Set Distance to Text to zero in order to ensure upwards compatibility. You certainly don’t want your document get messed up when this bug is fixed in the future …

I can't see that line - probably to do with being colour blind it fades into the background.
Switching to the dark UI I can see it. (although I prefer the light background on the workspace).
So looking at a dark background I can see the line appear either on the left, right or in the middle.
Might be a problem for other colour blind users...
    Thanks

First of all I want to say I LOVE Affinity Publisher! I've been using DTP software since the days of Pagemaker in the early 1990s, but only continued with inDesign up to CS2 (with a year of the subscription model being used also, around 2016; but never again, if I can avoid it). I've just completed my first project using Affinity Publisher, after making do with Adobe Illustrator CS6 for a number of smaller projects; and I have to say that the one thing I consistently noticed myself thinking while using publisher was: Instead of often thinking, "Why doesn't this work properly, or as expected?" I instead found myself thinking: "Wow, that's a smart way to implement this feature; it's easy to find, easy to use, and works very simply and very well!"
So well done Affinity Publisher! I can't wait for you to come out of Beta testing, whereupon I will be purchasing all three of your software offerings!
Anyway; one issue I did notice (and it might not be a problem at all): when exporting a PDF (which worked fine, and again I like the way you've implemented that export feature), I needed to reduce the end file size as much as possible so I decided to try the "export a flattened PDF" option, at least to see the projected file size (great idea, by the way, to give that feedback before the export is committed). However, the projected file size never resolved and instead my 15" MacBook Pro (2017; 3.1 GHz i7 quad core processor; 16 GB RAM; 1 TB SSD; Mojave 10.14.2) started spinning its cooling fan (I purchased this laptop last year and I think this is the first time I've ever heard the fan engage; well I suppose it's good to know it works) and after an appreciable time with no estimate of the end file size,  exited out of the dialogue and went back to exploring other export DPI options.

Well that's all; wonderful program for desktop publishing, though — I am thoroughly impressed!

    Hi Oval,
Yes, this was improved. The middle handles don't need to be visible anymore for you to adjust the width or height of the boxes as long as there's enough space between the corners handles for you to place the cursor in the middle (it should then change to reflect you can adjust the width/height). In the current retail you can only adjust the width and height when the middle handles are visible over the bounding box.

Is this really new? And you mean it resizes only the width/height of the box? – No, not only of text boxes.

Ver 1.7 will not have this feature. Serif have not said what features will be in 1.8 or other updates to 1.X. I would rather not think about a "final version" ... that feels very far off for this fledgling product.
