  1. Hallo, I have been trying to find a list, if there is one, concerning any changes or improvements that have been made to the PDF Export in version 2 of Publisher. It seems this may be the deciding point point for me whether to upgrade to Version 2 or not. is there a link to this information please? Thank you. Chris
  2. After all these years it suddenly dawned on me like a bolt of blue lightening while I was contemplating the meaning of the universe.....why does a publisher document have this setting in the first place? Why not set it to 2 ppi? My images range from 180, to 240, to 300 and even 360 ppi. I bring them in and they are there at their wonderful resolution very happy to take their place in the meaning of life. Now what? I print them out - at their resolution. So what on earth is the point in setting a publisher document to 300, it surely never overides your image resolutions right? Or am I going to be dissappointed with the answer? Chris (No, I have not drunk any vintage port)
  3. Hallo Old Bruce, thank you for replying, I have always been confused about this particular option since it has an ellipsis after it, which in any other software means you expect a dialogue box, regardless of whether something needs rasterising or not. On top of which I assume that anything that comes into publisher via my photoshop is pixel anyway and is therefore not vector. I never know what the hell this option means anyway. Hope you understand my confusion with this particular "thing". Basically then, if I place any box that has something in it that was created within publisher itself whether overlay or gradient, then that needs rasterising into pixels? Thankyou Thomaso for this.
  4. I need to flatten transparency which I have in my Publisher doc for PDF. Unlike Adobe PDF I see no option to tick a box that says you can flatten transparency before submitting to press. Also I can not find any flattening technique within publisher. All I have is a gradient or two over images and a picture frame box with a gradient white white fill covering half an image. Thank you
  5. I tried solving this last week, the help says nothing about it at all, I gave up looking for it, and then decided it annoyed me too much to let it go. I did the LOGICAL thing, created a preset for HSL and then looked for it. Could I find it? Absolutely not. No doubt it will be in the most un-obvious place....please help.
  6. Ok this was an embarrassment of the nth degree. Editing 100 pages over 4, 5, 6 times and more, Kyr's bright unagi idea just slippedmy mind. There are red lines around the originals, never computed - and I have had them for over 6 months.
  7. Hallo Old Bruce and Walt and Kyr, Here is a screenshot of the layers and the right side is part of the text with a red line. Sorry forgot again - ld Bruce No these are nt from any Adobe source, they are copies via online pdf where you can download single pages or whole articles from early 20th century newspapers. Besides this, other copies are from screenshots from an old film or world war one, they also have red lines.
  8. Hallo Gentlemen, Screenshots below: Plus proof that I have not inserted any stroke whatsoever. Yes the thin red lines also print out. Never seen this before as far as I can remember. Just seen this - The OUTER RED LINE has nothing to do with the image, guess it must be part of my selection from the screenshot?
  9. I was wondering why I have thin red lines around some of my images, searched and checked the obvious, but No, I certainly did not put them there. Has anyone else seen this before? Sorry forgot to say, this is Publisher Version One.
  10. Hallo firstdefence, thanks for the reply. I already went here, but as you see in my screenshot there is no option for this.
  11. Hallo, I can not find a way to achieve this automatically since I have to do a few hundred of them. I want to be able to type the word and with an automatic couple of tabs have these dots in between. Example: Math.............................23 Pi...................................25 Feynman......................48 Thank you Chris
  12. Nothing in the helpmenu unfortunately about this. I need to manually remove a number of misspelt words from the dictionary but I can not find how to do this. Thank you
  13. Hallo Murfee, thanks for responding, I actually type everythng in, no pasting. GOOD NEWS HOWEVER - in my frustration and annoyance I threw a hand granade 💣💥 at the text style called 'Main Body Text' and blew it up into pieces of unuseable data as I watched its binary bits turn into ashes, utterly obliterated its memory and then made the same text style all over again and refused to call it by its original name because I'm so childish I wanted revenge. Now the Head style works as expected, which was the main purpose. All I have to do is now go through all 100 pages and re-set the paragraphs that belong to my 'Main Body of Text'. I'm happy again.
  14. Ok Let's forget the analysis - what is the solution, how can I get rid of that 'Main Body Text' from off of my 'Head' Style? So I now have to Apply 'HEAD" to characters in the style edit drop down menu. But I have to do this for every text. My question is so logical, I HAVE ALREADY told the stupid style menu what to do, why do I have to now access the drop down menu of the style and 'APPLY HEAD TO CHARACTERS'????? to every text that I subsequently insert nto that text box.
  15. I re-organsied, deleted unused styles, re-formtted whole document, Re-did two master pages and made sure everything was in order. The two master pages simply have a text box at the top of the page where a header goes, each page a different text. The text style was so simple a child could have done it - ONE FONT; ONE 13 POINT; CENTRED. That is that!!!!! So why oh why do I suddenly get on some pages a situation where I click on my text style AFTER I have inserted a single line text on the relevant page and NOTHING happens except it gets centered, that's it -CENTRED and no other change, EVEN THOUGH in the text style drop down menu box CLEARLY INDICATES THE CORRECT FONT AND SIZE BUT WILL NOT OBEY WHAT IS TYPED INTO THE TEXT STYLE MENU BOX, EXCEPT THAT IT GETS CENTERED. What the bloody hell is it with these text styles?????????? The second image below is the problematic one. BUT HOW THE HELL DID THIS EVEN HAPPEN AFTER EVERYTHING WAS SET UP AFRESSH????? THIS IS THE PROBLEMATIC ONE BELOW - switching to HEAD and Main Body Text BUT I did NOTHING to pre-empt this, nothing at all !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Hi Anton and Jmwellborn, I appreciate your suggestions. Anton, your idea is a no go, if I had written a book with one font and one header that would be a great idea, I would have done that myself long ago, but the book is illustrated and with so many indents, tabs and headings and sections no way. Jmwellborn I think your idea is too complex for me sorry. I would spend hours on this. Believe it or not, the manual method is still quicker, if the document was pages of text and a few headings and sub headings yes, but my book is far to pictirial and illustrated and with so many variations in text structure that I would be on it till next month if I started this. But Thank you anyway.
  17. A text frame on a master page should not be a proble? What is wrong with that? Thankyou for the step by step on the header on the master page. Though it is too late to correct that, or I have nol idea how to correct it without destroying all 100 single sentence headers with different text? You have completely lost me on this sentence though:''''To change any formatting, try apply one of "applies..." from right mouse click or Revert defaultes or pres icon with letter "T".'''' I experimented with these 'apply' on the drop down menu in text styles and read about them, but I only read confusion confusion, even practising made no sense whatsoever. I simply edit anything I need to change in a style, makes so much more perfect sense and the 'apply this and apply that' just lost me.
  18. I have absolutely no idea how this happened. I have been aware of it but yep, it was a mystery to me how this happened, plus I do not know how to solve it. You say delete the character style header? Excuse me, that just deletes Everything? The header style is gone. So what on earh do you mean - as I said, I was always aware of this but have no idea how to set everything so that I have a header style with no other styles selected as often happens with this stupid style I set up. I see that it some text boxes have 'header +para Style, some have Header + charc Style and some have just Header. How do I solve this please, so that I simply have Header style and nothing else selects.
  19. Hi Walt, here is a sample. If you click on the text frames at the top of each page you will see how things change in the styles panel. This particular style is simply called "Header". But unfortunately each of the text frame boxes tend to alternate between 'Header' + Paragraph style, or Header + character style, or simply just 'Header' by itself. I am not experienced at text styles, I just know the basics so how it became like this I gave up trying to work out. Also, Old Bruce, it does appear then I seem to have done the impossible, I have text styles applied to the text box on the master page. Now I probably have misunderstood you, but this is how it appears to me. Sample_01.afpub
  20. Yes Hallo Walt, I always present the original problem in a logical well thought out manner, I think. 🙂 However as the conversation progresses I lose that logic and write as if I am having a conversation, hence I understand why I misled you somewhat. But thankyou for the trouble you take to help, it is very much appreciated. I suppose as an after-thought, just to clear things up, I have a text box on the master page, and have a text style for that box. On each one of my many pages I insert a different piece of writing and sometimes I have to actually click on the text style but mostly not. However, things began to go awry when I altered the font size of the text style, nothing updated, so I had to manually click on that text style to change each of my hundred pages so far. Good news however, as I insert new text into newly added pages into that master page text box, the text style is automatically applied. Hope to have solved the confusion.
  21. Walt I hope you understand that I am not even touching the context toolbar and never had to. I am changing and editing text styles. This is why I am a bit confused with your replies a little. When I edit a text style, NOTHING should be complicated here, a simple matter of wherever that text style is applied in a document it should change any paragraph that has had that text style applied, regardless of whether it is on a master page or not - it's that logical. This is not happening on two of my text styles, I did not bother to mention the other one as, to be honest, I am fed up with trying to solve it and I simply do it by hand the old fashioned way. Nevertheless, this should have been straightforward but some little piece of programming and code decides not to comply - fine - I will not fight it - it is not worth the headache. Thank you Walt
  22. Hallo Walt, you are right, I failed to mention that in my posts. Sorry. I had not expected that to be any issue since it is a text style on a master page, one assumes from logic that it would have changed everything within the document where the master page applied.
