  1. I googled this stuff and got a million answers as where it is. It seems win 10 does not have this Hardware acceleration, if it does I can not find it, despite googling the confusing answers to a very simpe question. Every answer I read I searched and it simply was not where they said it was.....
  2. Ok RCR, I am going to switch it off and see if I notice any difference as I compute through the coming week. However, and this is a request, I have read a little about what this Hardware thing-a-ma-bob does, But it does not help me to understand the benefit of switching it off becuase all I can read is what it does, and most of that is complete chinese to me. So in simple words what are the advantages of OFF as opposed to ON? PS, and while we are talking where on earth is it?
  3. Hi Walt, Thankyou for that detailed explanation, fortunately I have only ever done editing, writing and a few images into publisher since updating. Purchased direct from Affinity so that's good. So there should not be a problem. Thank you for your time on this Walt, as always. RCR - also thank you, but as I said, never had any issues at all with any of the affinity products for years, the last 4 weeks set of crashes are indicative of an issue with affinity's new release sadly to say. And as for trying to figure things out, forget it, I am not one for doing anything like this.
  4. I know this seems a silly question to some, but I need to feel secure with so much work dependant on the affinity suite as a whole. I want to go back to 1.09. Since upgrading to 1.10 I have had 6 or 7 crashes over the last 4 weeks or so. That's more crashes than I've had in 3 years. Just want to be sure. (This is not meant as a criticism against affinity, I mean that) Thanking you. Chris
  5. Ah, stupid of me, good idea, I get so wrapped up in my study and research that I am forgetting the simplest of things. Thank you Bruce.
  6. Ho Old Bruce - yes - you are spot on. I inserted a page because I did not want to disrupt the pages after this page that have boxes and all sorts in them, for every time I insert something new it disrupts a few things further ahead and I was getting fed up with having to correct everything. So I inserted a page to place a couple of graphics and text. I have fixed it now by cutting everything away and deleting the page, then just pasting everything back in. Basically inserting pages to be avoided I suppose.
  7. I tried following the 'Help' on text box linking but everythng gets worse. The screen shot shows the following: Some days ago I inserted an extra page between 33 and 35, which now obviously is page 34. Whenever I try to link the page 33 with 34 to restore the flow throughout the whole document everything goes hay wire. How on earth do I link it please? Thank you Chris
  8. Hi have just uploaded a few reports. There were about six, trouble is I know that publisher crashed a few times trying to import a two page pdf, I gave up on that one but did not report it. I do not know which of the rest are the arrow key crashes, sorry.
  9. I wondered and searched, so if it is in the help I can not find it. Is it possible to create a paragraph style by just selecting the paragraph and ...well...doing something else....as opposed to creating the style first, you then selct what you have just formatted and .....? This would be handier if possible. Chris
  10. Carl123 Thank you. Finally. RCR, I suppose I am not most users, many instructions from many sources I have read hundreds, but once in a while the instructions don't follow my logic. It happens.
  11. Thanks RCR but I have solved half the issue. Old Bruce: I was drawing a text frame amd insertig the hash symbol - tthis was what I thought the instructions meant. Now I have another problem - 1. I need page number 1 to start on physical page two. But it will not let me access the greyed out area in thesection manager. 2. Instead what it has done is put page number 2 on physical page two. Physical page one has its own text box and is not goverend by the master page. 3. If I change the section manager to start page numbering on page two, guess what, it gives that page a number 3 ??? Now how is this logical ??? (IS it me. or why is this page numbering so hard to figure out, prsonally I think the instructions should be clear) ? Chris
  12. Seriously? I thought these instructions would be sooo simple, so straight forward. To add page numbering: On the Pages panel, select a master page from the Master Page window. Create a text frame to place your page number field and optionally extra header/footer text. From the Text Menu, select Insert>Fields>Page Number. A hash symbol (#) indicates the page number. To change page numbering style: On the Pages panel, select Section Manager. From the Number style pop-up menu, choose from various standard numbering schemes such as Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3), upper/lowercase Roman (I, II, III, i, ii, iii), alphabetic letters (A, B, C, a, b, c) and more. I have one master page and every page is linked. Straight forward. I followed the above to the letter but got nothing but either a hash symbol on every page, then every page labelled as Page One, then Page #, then fiddled with everything. Please please put me out of sheer misery here - I have solved more complex issues than this so I am infuriated, these instructions must miss something so utterly very obvious. Thanks Chris
  13. Windows 10 recent updates applied. Latest version of Pubisher installed. I thought it was a one off, or even a two off, but these 4 times now over the last week. Publisher first says that it is not responding, then the blue circle for 30 seconds and then gone. This has happened every time upon the same movement: 1. Using the arrow keys to move the cursor across multiple words and letters within a text box. Oddly over the years publisher has hardly ever crashed, and this arrow key has never been an issue, only since I updated to 1.10.5.1342. 2. I am using publisher 8 hours a day for two weeks so 4 times does not seem so much. 3. I would not normally bug the forum but thought that this might be important now due to multiple occurences. 4. I am sorry I do not know where to go for any 'software initiated background reports' if you want them? Kindest regards Chris
  14. Old Bruce, this is fanatastic - thank you so much. The clarity with which you explain everything is truly appreciated. I hope others appreciate you as well Thank you. Chris
  15. Hallo prophet, thanks you for your input, but I went straight to Old Bruce hope you don't mind. Hallo Old Bruce, I used your second exampe as I understood it quite quickly. I did not think to use a text frame within a text frame, that was my downfall, however I will look at your first example sometime. I found the text styles palette with the option of a BOX a bit confusing since it made no sense how to edit it. Anyway I really can not see how you got that box within your frame or what on earth to do with it? I have taken a good look at your 'Box of Text' the first one. I am afraid after 10 minutes nothing there makes any sense to me at all. I look everywhere to work out how you did it. I can not find anyway to edit the box, I can not see how any of the text style menus can do this? Though I have used text styles - since these are logical. BUt the whole box thing seriously frustrates me. Sorry. Chris
  16. I have tried to put text inside a box. I have a very long document that will get longer so I need the text and the box to float. I tried a manual box with the box tool and a subtle shade inside around the paragraph and then sent the coloured box to the back. . Then applied float. But this did not work as the box then hid the text. I then tried the text styles and applied 'Box'. But quickly discovered no way to edit this even after looking alll over help and the drop down menus. The text styles pull out box revealed nothing. So I am lost now. Please could someone tell me how to float the box with the document with the text inside it ? Thankyoiu Chris.
  17. Stokerg and Walt, thank you very much for your replies. I was about to upload the files when I asked my wife to go through her workflow critically and discovered that she sometimes, for some files, clicked on "share" after the export dialogue in A.Designer instead of clicking on an actual folder in the USB. (Too much social media use I suppose). Anyway the problem is solved, as I always believed, the issue was never with affinity 😊 KInd Regards to you Chris
  18. Hallo Walt, I am so sorry, I really messed this up. Ok Firstly, we are not tryig to open the files that have the 'dot' and 'underscore' prefix, those we left alone, I understand this is an apple thing. What I have been so neglectful to point out is this: My wife draws in ProCreate, transfers to designer on IPAD, works a little there, then exports as a JPG and transfers to USB stick for printing. The printer then says the file is corrupt. I try to open the JPG in Affinity Photo in WIN 10 but get the same message. Funny thing here is that 3 of the 4 JPGs are corrupt and one is not, all done at the same time, this has happened once before. Now it could be that this has nothing to do with affinity, in fact I doubt that it has, which is why I have not posted this before now. But I wonder if anyone has any immediate advice at this stage. Hope now to have explained things more precisely - my fault. PS : My original confusion was seeing loads of these replicated JPG files with a ._ prefix added to them and wrongly assumed that this was the cause of file corruptions, which they are not. It is Apple's clutter being visible to a windows user as I eventually found out. Thanks Walt.
  19. Ok the "DOT" and "Underscore" prefixed files now I understand. Apparantly Apple's cluttering process when saving to a windows drive - a well known issue apparantly that annoys quite a few people. However Problem with corrupt designer files not solved. I'll just give this a miss for now.
  20. Hallo, on IPAD we are getting the prefixes attached of a dot and underscore as you see below to filenames. My wife draws in ProCreate, transfers to designer on IPAD, works a little there, transfers to USB stick for printing. As you can see all the files are duplicated with these prefixes and the VIEW mode on my Windows is NOT set to see hidden files etc. On top of all this she has suddenly been getting messages on our Laser printer that the file is corrupt. I try to open these files in Affinity Photo on Windows 10 and indeed I get the same message that the files are corrupt. Has anybody any advice please? Thank you Chris
  21. So, I am surprised. You can not access printer driver with IPAD Designer, photo or publisher, you can not select a specific paper type at all, you can not select for the application to control colour, instead of the printer, you can not select any functions at all within designer tht you get on a Normal Computer? Really? How is this NOT an issue with people working on IPADs then? Basically from the IPAD one has absolutely no control at all over the final print-out? Everything has to be transported to a Proper Computer in order to print ones products? I never saw this one coming when I encouraged my wife to switch to designer on IPAD due to her need for mobility. But thankyou for your answer and forgive my justifiable rant, thankyou.
  22. Asking on behalf of my wife who uses designer on the IPAD. When I print from my laptop we all know we have firstly the options from deigner to select who manages colour etc. Then we select the printer options and can choose from a multiple range of options. But, on the IPAD when my wife selects Print, she gets only Two options , number of pages and then size of paper. Now I know nothing about IPAD but can not believe that this is it. Is there another button somewhere within Designer on IPAD that we have missed, where she can have access to all those options that we get from an apple mac and a laptop and have access to the printer Driver also, as we do from a "Normal Computer"? Thankyou.
  23. No It is not pixlelated till you magnify to at least 242 to 300%, which is a good image. I took the image into Photo and imediately went to the resize box. You can see what I did and how large the image can be at 300 ppi. Tis is a good large size and there is nothing wrong. So what are you seeing if I may ask? By the way, do not rely on windows photo viewer to give any accurate representation of an image other than to present a nice photo for desktop viewing purposes only.
