    Jumping on this thread. Same here, Affinity Photo is basically unusable on my late 2017 iMac, especially so in the raw editor. Dragging out gradients takes an age - it is laggy and not nice to use whilst changes with the sliders is blocky and jerky. Sorry but altogether an awful experience. PS on the other hand flies. Is there something I am missing?

    Thanks :-)

    Hi,
    I'm a long time user and fan of Affinity Designer - I've been using the desktop version since Beta. But over the last month or so after using it since release with no issues at all Affinity Designer on my iPad has begun to freeze and then crash.
    I will be working in a document using the pencil either drawing in vector (most common) or colouring in pixel and suddenly the app no longer responds to any interaction - gesture or pencil. The only way to escape is to close the app from home and then to reload, invariably using large chunks of work including work that I have actively saved. It's incredibly frustrating, sometimes I get no more than 2 or 3 strokes before the crash, and so I have had to return to using a wacom and macbook in order to work.
    I am not working on particularly large documents and have plenty of storage space. I've tried the obvious turn it off and on again, as well as changing the auto-save to no avail. I have the pen set to pressure with no stabilisers. I don't rest my hand particularly hard on the screen and have even tried to place a book between my hand and the screen in case that was causing interference.
    I haven't produced a screen record of the issue because nothing specific triggers it and there are no error messages/indications.
    I'm using 1.7.1 (although I had the same issue in the version before) on a 12.9 inch iPad Pro (second generation).
    I'm completely at a loss.

    thanks Andy , but what is the value of this feature when the mask can not be altered because the masked image is corrupted ?  I understand that  contamination is removed when you do a simple cut out but this adds contend to the image and I´m sure I'm not the only one how will see this as a bug because it makes zero sense.

    @Andy Somerfield

    Thanks for the quick response!
    I actually much prefer having it the way it was where you set your preferences/custom settings for the selection tools and it stays that way when switching tools.
    I've definitely encountered massive workflow issues with it resetting every time, as I often select those custom settings for a reason and wish to keep them that way until I decide to change them (in which case I will). I'm much more likely to use the same selection settings for a project then changing them, so I think it would be better to have them stay the way that I set them up rather than having them default to 'New' every time - custom settings, by nature, are after all there for the user to set things up the way they want.

    Of course, I'm just one of many users, but if you prefer to keep it this way then I absolutely think that @Frozen Death Knight's suggestion of having a modifier key to add the little "+" next to the selection to add to your current selection would be incredibly useful - much like in PS holding down the Shift key will allow you to add to your selection without having to manually change the setting in the toolbar to "Add". Shift in Affinity is obviously used to add a straight line to the selection, so perhaps holding down Cmd would be a better option. That way you can create a selection, add to it by holding down (what every modifier key you choose to use) and subtract from it holding down the Alt key, allowing the user to sculpt out the perfect selection quickly and easily.

    mattius.m reacted to jannaj in Affinity Designer is rasterizing files that I export, reolution is very low
    Hi, please  help! Up until 24 hours ago everything was fine, then designer started telling me that some areas will be rasterized upon export. And they are horribly rasterized, please see the attached images. I mainly export in pdf for print, 300 dpi, most of my work is logos, flyers, poster, menus, business  cards for print. I also export in png, both formats are rasterized beyond use. I have tried everything that i know and still can not figure out how to fix this. please if someone can help, I have deadlines for work (some have already passed and clients are not happy) that are approaching!! All designer files are resterizing exported work, not just this file. Thank you!!
    PS, the pdf screenshot below exported with sharp, crisp lines 24 hours ago, now it's exporting like this!!!  The other screenshot shows the message that I get, "areas will be rasterized"  next to the dpi tab, if I export from the export persona or from the "file" drop down tab I get the same result.

    If this is to overlay an image you could use Blend mode: Multiply this effectively makes white transparent.
    Blend mode: Screen does the opposite, that knocks out the black.
