<EDITED> Please note, Affinity Publisher 1.8.2 for Windows is now live so this thread is locked </EDITED>
We are pleased to announce a major update for the Windows release of Affinity Publisher, version 1.8.0
    Changes in this build
The changes in Affinity Publisher for Windows 1.8.0 (over the last release Affinity Publisher for Windows 1.7.3) are as follows:
    New Features:
Template support – save documents as template files to re-use time and time again, share templates across all apps and even access files on multiple devices through cloud storage. New document dialog – it’s now simpler than ever to find, create and manage document presets with customised, saveable presets and thumbnail previews. Updated PANTONE© library – work with a seemingly endless range of colours, including updated PANTONE© Color Bridge and PANTONE© Formula Guide solid palettes (coated and uncoated). IDML import – import InDesign® IDML files, including all text styles, master pages, guides, pinned objects and more, directly into Affinity Publisher. Live preflight checking – customise the app’s all new Preflight panel to receive live warnings for possible errors in your document, including poor image resolution, bleed hazards, overflowing text, spelling errors, missing images or font resources, and more. XLSX import – import spreadsheet data from Excel, Apple Numbers or LibreOffice in XLSX format as a standalone table or inline with your text frames. Document merge – merge multiple documents together into a single file and take advantage of text style mapping, index merging and master page control, whether you’re combining whole documents or selecting page ranges to import. Smart master pages – effortlessly swap master pages and migrate edited content from any page to a new master page layout in a single click without losing any of your work in the process. Collect resources – organise all image resources into a single folder location and share with others in your network. New Anchors panel – easily manage anchors in your document and create new ones from selected text. Text column dividing lines – add lines to separate columns in text frame settings. Many other improvements. Fixes

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (Free for existing customers)
The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in Help > About Affinity Publisher).
If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the Affinity Store software it will check for updates and offer any available update. The latest update will install over the top of any earlier version, with no need to uninstall. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "Download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Publisher for Windows) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Windows Store purchases and needs a product key).
If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store— Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.

    Hi StainX,
I'm not aware of a way to do this, without the colour being a Global Colour.

    Hi!
So i have this 20 page broschure, where there is a 96/0/84/0 color defined. That color is in logos (vectorgroup), backgrounds, text, etc.. but its not a global color.
Is there an simple way to change that color to lets say 100/0/100/0 without selecting each single vector with that fill and change that manually?
    Greetings!

It depends as there is no magic solution for me...
I open in a pdf reader and print to pdf using a driver that has the option to not embed fonts. The Microsoft printer driver appears to do this by default and gives reliable results. Another option if the pdf route does not work is to use a pdf to png conversion tool.
Not ideal and really looking for pdf pass through to be implemented in Affinity.

@Lane That does not solve the problem ... it's a workaroud (as is saving your PDF as high-res JPG or TIF), but is not practical when you need to process a lot of PDF documents from various sources, e.g. adverts, barcodes, logos, drawings, graphs, tables, forms and many other small ,elements' in a magazine, book, catalogue or even on a poster (think "band logo" or "sponsor messages" for the poster example) or assemble a new layout out of several PDFs.
Placing and passing through a PDF "as is" is the de-facto standard in the design and publishing industry for this, because PDF is an exchange format invented for exactly this use case (among other reasons). Requiring ANY other steps is simply not acceptable.
In my opinion, the best solution for this would be to have PDF pass-through in Publisher and render PDFs for editing when opening them with Designer or using the Designer Persona in Publisher – this gives the user a choice and also makes for a good distinction between the two applications.
If Serif needs to purchase licenses for PDF passthrough from a third party and implement them in Publisher (just one app, not all three), I am happy to pay a couple of Pounds or Dollars or Euros extra or even buy it as an add-on or plugin. But again: For ANY professional DTP and Layout application this feature is an absolute MUST.

    What about PDF import?
The problem with native import not solved again? Why do the developers understand that Publisher is not suitable for professional use without this feature? Any external ad that appears in flyers / brochures / booklets / magazines becomes a problem. None of the layouters will deal with the installation of the countless fonts.
Too bad, it's a great program, unfortunately currently only for hobby area.

This is a must have for us as well.
I've got a workaround though ... We still have our Creative Suite 5.5 Acrobat, which allows us to save a PDF as an EPS file. Importing the EPS file into Publisher works!

LOL, I come back to the Designer forum every few months to see where this wonderful tool is that is to arrive 'one day soon' and here we are in late 2019 - 5 years later - and the 'contour tool' (AKA Offset Tool) is nowhere to be seen. Buying Designer for both platforms has literally been a waste of money for me for this very reason - I should have put the funds to good use and put them to a subscription to Illustrator for yet another year
What's even more annoying is that there is no mention of it in any future release either (AFAICS ?) - real shame, I had really wanted to ditch the adobe connection forever, but never to be it seems

As much as i love AP, i can't work with it if i'm not able to place client provided ads in there.
Also what i noticed, you can't set a stroke around linked documents...
So, yeah keep looking forward to those pdf features!

In 8 of 10 jobs we have to place PDFs "as they are". If AP didnt get the abilitity to import them as "picture" we cant use AP. :-(

    Hey there!
Anyone else have a very low scroll speed on the Pages Studio?
I mean, using the  Scrollwheel is a pain, at least if i set the Page Preview to small its working as intended.
(Using Windows 10, no special mouse software installed, 3 Lines per Scroll set in Windows 10)
