  1. A small bug in Designer artistic text tool, I often want to split one line of text into two if I write two or more words on one line highlight and cut the second word and then paste it underneath.
Now when I highlight the second word with move tool it doesn't show the font family, now it I put the text tool at the end of the second word and hit delete the font family is now showing.
Must be an invisible glyph or something.

Would be nice to be able to divide two words into separate lines (Illustrator has a script to do it).

Surely you can see that every time there is a change to the linked text file the text in the Publisher document will be reimported, as unformatted text.

I do it all the time in In Design and it keeps the original formatting no problem, that's why I need to keep using InDesign. As I have stated before it is a LAYOUT program not a word processor if simple text linking can't be achieved properly then it is useless to most people who receives external documents.

I think that the main collaborative function that V2 currently provides is the Books feature, Michael. This allows, for example, chapters of a book to be easily created by different team members, using Publisher, and the resulting .afpub files are assembled into a final publication by another member.

Other users have also asked for Linked text files, and perhaps they will come, someday. But I think there are other functions that will also be needed before Linked text files can truly be useful. For example, importing DOCX files gives you a new set of Text Styles, in many cases, which may then need to be adjusted. With a naive implementation of Linked text files, you would have major rework in the main document whenever one of the Linked files changed, and was re-imported.

So, in addition to supporting Linked text files, some significant rework on Text Syle importation would be required, too.

So if linked text documents are considered not that important then what makes linking photos so important apart from file size if embedded.

    Serif team,

For God's sake, please make it possible to link (vs embed) text documents.

The Affinity Publisher team seems disinterested in supporting document collaboration.

Affinity Publisher is not a reasonable choice in most corporate environments, since reports, user guides and similar documentation requires multiple contributors, necessitating some form of collaborative capability.

As a technical writer I have worked in multiple corporate environments, currently for the US Government. In each environment I advocate using Affinity Publisher ─ since the alternative is Microsoft Word 😒.

While exploring the feasibility of using Affinity Publisher for the Government I ran into the same issue ─ the only major issue, no collaboration capabilityAffinity Publisher is mature enough for collaboration to be a high priority.

The following is a Serif Affinity sponsored video explaining linked and embedded resources in Affinity Publisher. At 30 seconds it explains: "an advantage of using linked resources is you can utilize collaborative workflows. It allows colleges and other users to make changes to the image files separately":  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5YIUkksr4Q

With publications, collaboration needs are primarily for text, not images.

Please make Linking and Embedding work with text documents!!!

In June 2022 I offered the following suggestion, which is more comprehensive and complex to implement, but would also satisfy this need and may further distinguish Serif Affinity as an innovator.

I agree 100%, I use InDesign and have tried out Pagemaker and Quark in the past and the one thing they all have in common is that they are all first and foremost a LAYOUT program designed to work with multiple contributors, this is almost impossible to do without the ability to link all documents not just photos.

  5. I have notice a problem with placing DOCX tables, when placing a table with merged cells (as displayed on the left of page) the first column will be way to wide it appears that the first column is the width of the whole table, the table displayed is 60mm wide in MS Word and the first column here is 60mm wide, The table displayed on the right of page is without the merged cells and is the right width.

As someone who works with long form text, I find it frustrating that while I have the option to choose between linking or embedding images, but cannot do the same with text files.

Having to re-place a text file after having made an amendment to the underlying document file is an absolute nuisance and unnecessarily time consuming.

Does anyone else have the same frustrations or is it just me.

Absolutely I have posted before, I have one major project that needs DOCX tables and text to be automatically updated from other sources, so I have to stick to InDesign for the moment.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

The Resource Manager is for Linked or Embedded documents or images (such as PDF, JPG, .afphoto, etc.). This gives you a container within your Publisher (or other Affinity application) document which holds that other data. It is a separate document within the parent document.

The support for DOCX (and text) files is that the text and other content is placed directly into the Publisher document. It is neither Linked nor Embedded, which produce containers. It is just directly there as part of your Publisher document, just as though you had typed it directly.

Why!, in InDesign I import Word docx and Spreadsheets that need constant updating and are in the links, seen very odd for Publisher not to do the same.

I have many projects that need this and prevents me from using AFPub.

  8. PHOTO
Would be nice if the user could change the order of the tools in the adjustement panel.

    PUBLISHER
    1. To import MS Word tables correctly, at the moment docx tables dont keep the same dimensions as original.

    2. Resource Manager able to update all imported files not just images ie. text and spreadsheet files.

    DESIGNER
    1. Add sharp corner nodes to the warp group similar to your standard shape editing with curved, cusp and sharp nodes.

    2. Proper 100% vector brushes in particular calligraphy brushes and make your own. (like now but vector and not png)

    3. Vector eraser.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

  9. I know I can set the tools, didn't explain myself very well.

I copy and paste a lot from client's briefs when copying text ( usually only one or two words for a logo ) from elsewhere I have to physically pick the A tool before pasting or it will paste as paragraph text.

It's not a big deal but I find myself pasting without picking A tool so I have to delete it pick the A tool and paste again.

  10. Hi, first up I really do like this program just a bit frustrated with the development time.

    A few tweaks needed

1.) have the A text tool as default and not T text tool ( in an illustration/designer program I rarely use paragraph text )

2.) when making an new document palette name it at the same time instead of having to re-open it to rename it

3.) the ability to make a new style from a group, currently if you highlight more than one item they are added to styles as separate items ( often have a solid colour overlay layer on a gradient layer )

Thank you for a great program.

    John
