I am sorry Sir, but it's the same problem as in earlier versions. Here two passages you cannot correct inside the Affinity Publisher without access to the software that created the PDF (the PDF itself may be too complex). We still have to follow the process (the workaround) I described on September 24, 2018: This is not bad, although not exactly a successful import of PDFs we like to create. Best wishes, Ueli.

To improve the quality of the pdf-import, there is another function that could be added: increasing the spacing in the text boxes. The dialogue would look like this:

As it is known that AfPublisher works more properly if the texts in the pdf to be imported (= to be opened in Publisher) are not hyphenated and not justified, the opening dialogue should be expanded by two functions as shown here, namely an Undo of the hyphenations and an Undo of the justified texts to aligned to the left.

There are correct little blue ones (soft return), and many many wrong ones, if the imported pdf was made with texts hyphenated and justified (not aligned to the left).

You probably dont't see the difference at first sight. There's no posssibility to work with the original pdf: wrong box sizes and many little blue poisoned characters you cannot delete. Normal text to edit in AfPublisher if the original text is reduced.

Windows 10, 32 GB ram, Beta Af-Publisher 1.7.0.238 This morning, I opened many PDFs in Af-Publisher and was astonished, how good these files looked and how bad my own. So I started to make experiments. I found out that the import of PDFs is nearly perfect if the texts contain no hyphenation and are all aligned to the left. I have an example out of Microsoft Publisher 2006 in the original layout and now adapted as mentioned, as well. So if you not only have a PDF to convert but also the software that produced it, you can continue working with the PDF in Af-Publisher without big problems. Still the same PDF-import errors in Beta 1.7.0.221 (Windows 10): the textboxes have not always the exact sizes. Most times they are okay, but not always. The hit rate of the textbox size in the PDF import has improved, but on the whole is still error-prone.

The first file was an Affinity Publisher file, the second file was the PDF, exported in Publisher.

It is easier than I thought: on every page, you see the layers with empty frames. You delete them. Then you control in the history. There should not change anything that is visible.

In the Beta Version 1.7.0.133, the PDF-Opener is now better. There are significantly less empty layers, i.e. layers with empty frames. It's unfortunately untrue: one time, when I open the pdf, there are many layers with empty frames on all pages, another time with the same pdf, there are nearly none...

I converted a Microsoft-Publisher file to an Affinity-Publisher file. The process seems to be the same for original files out of PagePlus, InDesign and QuarkXPress. Make a PDF. Open it in Affinity Publisher, Favour editable...: No, Group lines...: Yes. Delete all empty layers (the ones that show nothing...). Delete the text of the first text-frame (don't delete the frame). Open the original program: PagePlus, InDesigne etc. Copy and paste the content of the first text-frame: the fonts and formats remain the same. Connect the frames that must be connected. The table has about 140 rows (it shows the 140 ways to enter the Wallis/Valais). I placed it as text-frame per copy and paste in a new Affinity project, A1. Then I made - on the same page - an Affinity table: same number of colums and rows. Select all the cells in the original table, copy. Select all the cells in the Affinity table. Paste in. The file here is 10% of a book of 1998. The layout will be changed to double side A4 landscape so that large panoramas can be used. Most of the pictures will be exchanged (here they are all analogs). It's possible: put the text-table on a free page (here A1). Make a table with the same number of colums and rows (rows can be more). In the text-frame, ctrl-a: select all. Ctrl-c: copy. Go to the empty table. Select all. Paste in. Now there is a new Affinity-Publisher table of 143 rows, convertet out of MS-Publisher 2003.

It's possible to import MS-Publisher pages, double pages as well, per copy and paste. Text and pictures remain original. Unfortunately, there are about five layers added, empty and without any function. You have to find and delete them piece after piece. It would be helpful to have the function: Delete all empty layers.

I make a PDF with MS-Publisher 2003 on Windows 10, without changing the name: I open the PDF in Affinity Publisher Beta. Everything is acting okay. I save this new file. Proposed name: the old one. I think the ending will be added automatically. A strange warning appears. There should not be a file with this name already... Maybe I just can't remember? I'm stupid. I save: Yes. The new saved file only has the old name of the MS-Publisher, and it has also its Icon... The old file, the original Ms-Publisher file is overwritten! If you open it, the message appears: Can't open it...
