    Hi there,
thanks for the update. Really a nice step forward and I love the new option for - Size / Rotate objects to same - as well as the export to DXF. This saves time and a workaround for my work as I´m still only experimenting with Affinity for some projects yet.

I really hope to get a few "minor" things with V2.X update before you jump on V3.
    1. Would love to have a "vectorize" option in Designer for transforming pixelgrahics to vectors with a reliable result. Maybe with a little help of AI.
    2. Would love to have plugin support for cut plotters as mine just work with Illustrator and CorelDraw.
    3. Would love to have some more "Lightroom" functionalities within photo or with a different app. - Library, Batch Editing, AI Noisereduction and AI Masking for local adjustments and AI Skin smoothing...(Don´t get me wrong - I think the path of generating images based on AI is not a path we need to go. But sometimes these AI tools save me quite a bit of time which I can spend for nicer things)
As an owner of a small graphics agency I would love to get some more work done with Affinity as I really like the way these apps work together and of course I would be more than happy to cancel some subscriptions I need today...
    Thanks again for the update!

I agree... I think apps should accommodate the UI design principles of the OS they run on. Windows 11 automatically applies rounded corners to top-level app windows, so maybe the Affinity apps were designed in a way that prevents rounded corners from being applied. I'm not aware of the complexities involved, but it would be nice if Serif could address this at some point.

This would just make sense for Designer as I see no need in Photo for it. But the measurement tool could be so much more useful this way.

artmischke got a reaction from Aisthetikos in Zoom in by keeping the selected object centered
    Hi there,
trying to use Affinity more and more over other application. One behaviour I really miss vs. other applications is the zooming behaviour.
InDesign i.e. always keeps the selected object centered when zooming - so I don´t need to swipe or scroll. I´ve looked for other requests related to zooming - could found some but none of them were exactly focusing on this specific feature.
I´m referring to zooming via alt+. Hope this is not a huge thing, but small steps for one are big leaps for others...

    Hi All,
Thanks again for all your continued help with this release. We are getting very close to launch. This will be the final beta build before what will hopefully be our first release candidate next week. For that reason we are not really making any further significant changes (or anything which could be considered risky).
The main thing I want to make you all aware of is that we have decided to not release the cross-references feature with 2.1. For that reason this feature has been removed from this week's build.
Any documents you may have created which include cross references will still open (and they will even still update), but you will not be able to edit or create new cross-references in 2.1. We understand this might be disappointing for some of you, however we will be moving into 2.2 beta very shortly after 2.1 release, and as soon as a 2.2 beta is available that will include cross-references again (and will definitely make it to 2.2 release!)
We have made this decision primarily as we have been working on adding better formatting options (as have been requested on these forums) into the feature, but we have not quite managed to get it to a point where we feel it will be releasable in time - and considering all the other great stuff / fixes we have put into 2.1 we don't want to delay the whole of 2.1 because of it.

Other than that in this build it's mostly just fixes which you can see in this thread.
    Thanks,
    Ash

Would love to see this happen aswell. I mean AI has always pros and cons but AI selection tools and some AI filters are really missing in Photo. But personally i use them more with DAM systems to darken or lighten or blur backgrounds as you do. So we miss DAM aswell ;-). Still the reason I love LR and PS for these tweaks.

I searched this forum first and was surprised not to see this asked before. Adobe's subject selection tool with a single click is proving very popular with subscribers to that software. I often isolate my subject to blur the background and would love this to be much faster. Do any of you know or even just think, that we'll see a feature like this added to Affinity Photo 2.0 in the very near future?

    Hi @SStohelit,
Just to let you know, N.P.M. is another forum member like yourself and not a member of the Affinity team - therefore they have no control over the Feedback section of the forums.
I'll be sure to pass your feedback regarding feature requests through to our team here as I agree a 'ranking' style system would be ideal for commonly requested features.
I hope this clears things up.

If we do it, it will just be an option to whether you want to convert the measurement to an object or something along those lines. And should say to set expectations this will not be what could be considered a full dynamic dimension tool or anything, but clearly the convenience of just leaving the measurement on document would be welcomed.
Out of interest one use case we are aware of are some universities using Photo to edit / enhance imagery taken by microscopes. The measure tool is going to be very useful for them, as once scale is set then can us to take measurements - which might be parts of an insect, or down to distance between individual cells in some tissue. But yes use cases are less in photo which is why we are not including the tool in the toolbar by default.

artmischke reacted to Ash in Affinity V2, updates, pricing and no subscription [repost]
    Hi All,
Well, it’s been a pretty crazy week since the launch of V2!
This has been a real labour of love for us over the last year or so, and I can’t even begin to describe how hard the development team have worked on it. Not only getting the V2 apps launched, but also of course finally bringing Publisher to iPad.
With this being our first paid-for upgrade there has understandably been a lot of feedback / questions around future updates and our pricing policies. I thought it was worth addressing / clarifying our position on some of these personally...
    Updates to V2 moving forward
Buying V2 not only gets you all the new features you have seen, but we have various updates planned – including many more new features and improvements – which you will get for free. This will continue until such a time that V3 is released. We’re not sure exactly when V3 will be, but I can confirm we are not going to move to anything as regular as an annual upgrade cycle as has been speculated.
It’s worth saying too that V2 does include many under-the-hood changes to our underlying technology, and we have also been investing in several new areas of research recently. Some of these haven’t manifested themselves into new features yet, but overall V2 does give us a better platform to develop on moving forward and I’m sure you will be pleased with the updates V2 will receive.
    Updates to V1 moving forward
While we did say on the FAQ that V1 would no longer receive any updates, I want to clarify that was about new feature updates. We will be updating V1 to fix any critical problems caused by operating system updates in the future. So if the next version of macOS breaks V1 we will endeavour to fix it. There will be a point in time when continuing to maintain V1 in this way will not be tenable, but certainly for the foreseeable future we will continue to patch. In fact, we have an update to V1 queued up for release very shortly with some fixes for Ventura and issues caused by a recent Windows security / quality update.
We will update our FAQ shortly to make that clearer for everyone.
    Offer period
In case you didn’t see, I’m pleased to confirm we have decided to run this initial launch offer until 14th December to give everyone the best chance possible to get it if they wish / have a decent amount of time to trial it.
    Upgrade pricing
It’s been really hard to see some of the comments about us not looking after our existing customers – we’re pretty devasted that anyone feels like that to be honest. But the fact is we felt our hands were tied somewhat with being able to offer upgrade pricing in a fair way. The main reason for this was App Store customers (which make up around 35% of our userbase). The problems with that are two-fold: firstly, we didn’t have a way from within V1 to validate an App Store purchase receipt to reliably ensure customers who were entitled to an upgrade could get one; and secondly, we could not find a good way for people to get that discount via the App Store. Us pushing upgrade customers to go exclusively via our own site (including customers who were previously acquired via the app stores) may also have put us in violation of App Store Ts & Cs which we were obviously concerned about.
I’m not saying that these issues were completely insurmountable, but any solutions we came up with would be messy, and most importantly could have resulted in some bona fide V1 customers struggling to get validated and claim their discount. We certainly don’t have the support resource here if we ended up needing to manually validate tens of thousands of receipts for example.
The only option we felt was safe to move forward with was a general launch offer, which would guarantee that every V1 customer could get the discount, whether they purchased directly through us or the App Stores. We knew a side effect of that would mean some new customers would end up receiving that same discount – but we felt that was a better option than V1 customers missing out. It’s also worth saying that while there has been some good press about V2, all our main marketing has been via email and through social media to our followers. In other words, we felt ok about it because we knew the vast majority of people who would find out about it or take advantage of the offer would be existing customers. I would be surprised if over the offer period customers upgrading from V1 didn’t make up more than 90% of our sales.
Overall I do believe us giving a 40% discount, along with the addition of the new Universal Licence of course, is offering fantastic value for money for those who want to upgrade.
However, taking on board some of the feedback there is something extra we can do – we will offer a new free bundle of content exclusively for V1 customers upgrading to V2 as an extra thank you for your support. I’ve seen this suggested by a number of customers and it’s a great idea as it does remove the App Store conflict entirely.
We’ll need a little time to put something together, but all customers who previously registered or purchased V1 and have since upgraded to V2 will receive a voucher code for this via email as soon as we can.
    A comment on no subscription
I do want to say that some of the points above are exactly the reason why software companies move to subscription. Whatever you do with upgrade pricing, you still have the issue of customers who bought the previous version 3 months ago vs. those who have had it 2+ years. Offering perpetual licences also gives the additional overhead of needing to maintain the previous version longer than you would if everyone was on subscription / generally always on the latest version.
We are a small team so some of these complications are not ideal — all we really want to do is focus on developing our latest codebase, push out regular updates and continue with our mission to make great creative software accessible to everyone.
But it does need to be funded somehow. We know you love our no-subscription model, but there also needs to be a level of appreciation that the alternative is having paid-for upgrades from time to time. That unfortunately comes with its own problems.
All of that said, I have to say we have been blown away with the response to V2 - around 3 times as many people have upgraded in the last week than we expected - and we really can't thank you enough for the support you have shown. More than anything the success of this upgrade puts us in a great place to continue investing heavily in development which is ultimately what it's all about, and we’re super excited to crack on with some great updates coming next year!
    All the best,
    Ash

It is not only about the visual appearance (rounded corners) defined by the respective OS, which all standard applications should respect, but also about other functions that the given OS brings for manipulating windows/applications. For example, the distribution of windows on the desktop.

The fact that the application does not respect the features of the OS is its big "bug" (albeit at the design level).

First: Thanks for the new version and congrats on the release.
It is not a bug, more an important missing feature: Windows 11 Rounded windows. I think also a design suite should care about UI guidelines. And with V2 i wanted to see rounded Windows 11 corners AND drop shadows of the main windows, it is possible on MacOS too. It is not a gimmik or a joke, it is to separate multiple windows while working. When i work in other graphic software it is nearly impossible to separate and find the Affinity Window. Attached a sample which shows Affinity Photo above Blender. Round Corners is "just" a OS design feature but window shadows and in Windows 11 the light line around the window are important thinks and i would assume that a software which is meant to design UI and other stuff is using this rules.

Regards and thanks for a day one patch  ... For now, i have to test new stuff...

v2 is a nice update. Unfortunately, palette docking on macs still hasn't been addressed. While the windows version allows two or more columns of palettes to be docked side by side, in macOS only one column is possible. I much prefer the tidyness of docked palettes, and really can't stand the floting ones Would be nice if finally, after so many years, someone took the time to fix this.
Would be interesting to know how Serif thinks about scripting. From the perspective of tech savvy users it opens up so many possibilities. Is it ever coming?

    Hi,

First of all, well done and congratulations on your new Affinity suite.

I really appreciate all the hard work that I can see has obviously gone into this suite and I’m enjoying the UIX updates.
There are two features that I feel are holding me back from cancelling my subscription to the other big company who competes with APhoto and those are :
    - AI Object and subject detection auto-Masking (Intellgient object detection and subject masking). I cannot tell you what a killer feature this for your competition and it’s one that I’d love to see included (even to Mac variant).
    - A better way to browse my Affinity suite of assets across the apps - Originally I was hoping for something like Lightroom but in hindsight I think something more akin to bridge may be more apt.

In any case I’d appreciate if these suggestions could be added to your backlog for APhoto v2 for downstream consideration or even planning!

best regards and congrats again on an excellent software release.
