+1 Being able to copy gradients back and forth between Illustrator and Designer would be really nice.
Here's hoping that version 2.0 doesn't rasterize in the same way version 1 does.

+1 For a permanent reset to "Regular bounds".
"Regular bounds" should be default, not the "Base box", it's just not intuitive.

    Hello everyone,
I wanna start by mentionning that i am a big fan of affinity suite. For 3 years now, i am trying to ditch Adobe and switch to Affinity. But whenever i try to do some real life work, this copy paste issue shows up. I can't paste to Keynote, i can't paste to Figma (with keeping the vector properties). I think affinity team should put a little more focus on real time workflows instead of adding new shiny tools. With every new major/minor update i check the list of new features with the hope of seeing this improvement with no luck so far.

If you don't mind it being converted to Curves, select it and click the Add button on the Toolbar, or Layer > Geometry > Add from the menu.

I see. I'm a bit puzzled with it to be honest. I'd like to have a clear distinction in my mind about what's vector and what's not when I work on my projects. This is how I understood the Designer Persona and Pixel Persona. I though this is how you separated the two words from each other. The idea in my mind was that when I start a vector project, I simply stick to Designer Persona, but when I wanted to add some bitmap content to it, I'd switch to Pixel Persona for that reason. If it doesn't work like this - why do we need Personas?
As for the brushes, it's just very confusing to have a Vector Brush Tool which draws bitmaps...

True vector brushes, perspective, envelope distort and export preview are Linux only features.

If Serif would add true vector brushes, it would reduce the need to look for alternatives. As it stands, Affinity lacks some hard core vector options, like vector transformations, vector knife and eraser and true vector brushes. If your work requires the output of pure vector graphics, you might have to try another app. Vectorstyler is in beta right now and is a lot more like illustrator, so that might suit your needs better. However it is more difficult to work with than Affinity, and the UI is not as polished.
One thing I do appreciate about the vector brushes in Affinity, is the direct visual feedback you get, which makes it a lot easier to judge the drawing. Also these raster based brushes are a lot better for more complex brush strokes, which makes other apps quite laggy.

@waveman777 - Having 100% vector brushes (beyond the top two in the "pens" category) along with the ability to edit and build our own 100% vector brushes is something that's been requested many times for several years now by the Affinity user community. I work in the screen print industry and most work I do requires 100% vector output. Many are hoping Serif hears our requests and implement it in an upcoming version soon. We love Affinity - we just need certain tools to properly do our work with it

I've been wondering, why there it no option to convert vector brushes to curves? I'm in Designer Persona, brushes supposed to be vector, but the only vector thing about them is that I can edit the trajectory of the brush. Yet, when I wanted to make a 100% vector file out of it, I realised that vector brushes are exported as bitmaps. So, even though the brush tool is labeled as "Vector Brush Tool " it actual isn't. This is all so mixed up - I would expect such behaviour only in Pixel Persona, not in the Designer Persona, where all should be 100% vector graphics.
Any tip how to deal with it?
    Thanks

    The problem is this:
It is five years already (an eternity in software design) and the programs are still riddled with bugs.
Some features that are being mentioned were talked about years ago.
You can't live off potential forever.
They have to take a big step forward at some point and fix the bugs that are there for starters.

Correct. It is already too late - the professional market is already out of reach. Professional features, colours that blend naturally, natural brush movement... still nowhere to see. The hype was based on dreams and hope. And the hype is a thing of the past for this reason. Too little, too late, too slow.
This is beggars can't be choosers software. Still a good thing. But nothing more.

    Hi,
Please bring these features to affinity designer as these are very compulsory in designing vector shapes.

Also needs improvement in Node tool (direct selection tool)

This just needs to be a menu option like Illustrator – something like Object => Offset Path => <enter value>. So much faster than this method.

Yeah, that message is just plain wrong -- it should just say that you need to install Affinity Designer from the Mac App Store, not Affinity Designer Beta, which of course is not available from anywhere besides directly from Serif.
Neither is it so that they are the same build. The file sizes & Mac application package contents differ significantly, & according to their info.plist files the last beta build number is 18E226, while the 1.7 MAS build number is 18F132.
But that isn't why the beta won't run. It is because the beta is older than the retail update.
EDIT: It occurs to me that assuming the beta compares its build number to that of the MAS retail app to tell if it is older, it might be possible to trick it into running by editing the beta's info.plist file to change the build number to a later one than 18F132, say 18F200 or whatever. I am not brave enough to try that because it is an unsupported hack that might cause major issues with the retail version, so please understand that I am not recommending that anyone try it!
But that said, if there are enough custom brushes, assets, etc. created in the beta that were not exported from it before the retail update was installed that you are willing to try something this dangerous to recover them, this might be a way to run the beta so that can be done.

Not so! The number you’ve quoted for the beta version includes the build number, which is 14. App Store version 1.7.0 is the same build.

    I have the same question.
I have the latest version of Designer 1.7 downloaded from the Mac App Store, and when I launch the Customer Designer Beta app I get the same window you posted.
The Customer Designer Beta app is supposed to continue to run, tracking feature additions for a future 1.7.1 build, but this challenge window blocks the Beta app from running.
Perhaps we'll get some guidance from the Affinity staff.

You run this board like Affinity Designer is an idealistic pursuit. I'm sure you're convinced I am the problem, that's good, think what you want. Where can I talk to actual Serif customer service staff? This is gross if this is how they are letting their customers be treated.

I paid for it over 4 years ago, when updates were rolling out all the time. I'm still unable to switch from Illustrator, because some AD solutions are making the workflow painfully slow.
Right now I'm trying to figure out, why using a shortcut twice makes it switch to a previously used one... Whose crazy idea was that?? In illustrator, no matter how many times I click "T" tool, it's still I Text Tool, in AD, "T" can become anything, depending on what was used next, so I have to be careful all the time not to accidentally press it twice, as I'm using shortcuts constantly and switching between them. In Illustrator - I don't think about it ever, a shortcut is a shortcut! to one particular tool! AD drives me crazy.
And I'm also unable to use Undo > Redo history, because when going 10 steps back, I need to be very careful not to select any object with a mouse, because if I do, all Redo history is gone, as AD is counting object selection as an action. Another crazy idea that makes the workflow a pain.
AD is good, for beginners, who have plenty time to play with it. If you're in a hurry and want to finish something fast, it not always the best solution.
