  1. When Publisher is first opened, it takes a while to load the first document with "File-Open". In Windows there is a small message in the upper right that says "Loading 1 document..." It would be good to have a progress bar pop up or to have some kind of animation in the existing message (such as moving dots) to indicate that the program is working and not frozen.
  2. When searching for a custom field, it does not work when "Match case" is turned on in the Find options. Only finds fields when "Match case" is turned off.
  3. When searching for a custom field, it does not work when "Match case" is turned on in the Find options. Only finds fields when "Match case" is turned off.
  4. Same issue here. Doesn't matter if after entering page range you tab, return or click OK.
  5. Feature finally added in Publisher v2.2! THANK YOU SERIF!!!
  6. Still hoping that has worked its way up the priority list! is it coming?
  7. Having the same issue. Any of the v1.1 released have been painfully slow with redraws, resizing, etc., in Windows 10. After reading this, uninstalled Photo and reinstalled 1.9.2. Back to normal speedy response times.
  8. I am having the same problem. v1.10.1.1142. Any file that I created prior to February 2020 crashes Publisher on opening. Please fix ASAP!! Thank you!
  9. Thanks, @Old Bruce Actually, I understand that I can hardcode fonts in Paragraph Styles. My question is more about why you can't reference a Character Style's font also. Look at it this way: "Text Paragraph Type 1", "Text Paragraph Type 2", etc... should be able to be based on "Text Font". Likewise "Header Paragraph Type 1", "Header Paragraph Type 2", etc... should be able to be based on "Header Font". So if I have 6 different Paragraph Styles regarding text passages, and 8 different Paragraph Styles regarding types of headers, if I want to change the "base font" for text and the "base font" for headers, instead of changing each once in the "Text Font" Character Style and the "Header Font" Character style (which would then be inherited by the associated Paragraph styles), I have to go into each of the Paragraph Styles and change them. But even if I base the Paragraph styles on the "Text Font" Character Style (and likewise for headers), changing paragraphs from headers to text changes the other paragraph attributes but not the font, because the font family says "[no change]". I would think it should be able to pick up the font from the Character Style it is based on. I understand your approach regarding using mostly Paragraph Styles, but there are lots of other things including capitalization, color, etc., that I use Character Styles for when I don't want the entire paragraph to change.
  10. Is it possible to have a paragraph style also carry with it a character style for that paragraph automatically? That would mean whenever a particular paragraph style is selected, it would automatically also apply a character style to the paragraph? Here's a scenario: Document has two character styles: "Header Font" and "Text Font" "Header Font" (based on No Style; Lato font family; next style same) - Creates a uniform header font for the entire document "Text Font" (based on No Style; Roboto font family; next style same) - Creates a uniform text font for the entire document Also has two paragraph styles: "Header Paragraph" and "Text Paragraph" "Header Paragraph" (based on Header Font character style; next style Text Paragraph) - sets spacing, justification, etc., for all headers "Text Paragraph" (based on Text Font character style; next style same) - sets spacing, justification, etc., for all text paragraphs I type a header line and apply the Header paragraph style, then press Enter. Since the "next style" is set to "Text Paragraph", I would expect it to not only change the paragraph formatting to "Text Paragraph", but also the character formatting to "Text Font". It doesn't. It changes all the paragraph attributes, but not the character ones (because I have left all the font info at "No change". Font stays as it was in the Header. I know I can go into the Text paragraph style and manually assign a font family, but that seems to defeat the purpose of "Based on," doesn't it? The "Text Font" character style that gives me the flexibility to universally change the document text font by simply changing the "Text Font" character style. But if I have to manually assign a font family to the "Text Paragraph" paragraph style (since there is no way to assign the "Text Font" style directly to the "Text Paragraph" style, it seems to undo the base settings. Maybe I am trying to next things too deeply. I thought in reading the documentation that I could set a universal base font for text, headers, footnotes, etc., and then simply change the base font settings for each of them and then have all the character and paragraph styles built on them update automatically. I guess what I'm really trying to accomplish is the automatic linking of a paragraph style and a character style for that entire paragraph. If someone has a better understanding of this, please let me know if I am off track or if there is a better way to do this. Thanks!
  11. I have been experiencing the same issue with Publisher. Click OK, print dialog closes, but no printing. After doing a lot of troubleshooting and printing selected pages, at least twice I have narrowed it down to a font the Publisher doesn't like. If it is present in the page range being printed, nothing prints. If it is deleted, printing happens as usual. So far I have identified two fonts: "Aleo Bold" (even though all other variations work) and "Heydings Icons". I even tried the same experiment printing to the Adobe PDF printer, and that produces an error log instead of a file.
  12. I have tried to trace the history of this document back to see the point where the problem started but cannot find it. Where can I privately submit the file to the staff to be examined? I see that has happened in other posts.
  13. I am also getting crash on save with Windows 10 on desktop PC and Affinity Publisher v 1.8.5.703 5b1cd5c0-9107-40b2-8c85-26408cf4da5a.dmp
  14. I have a layout for an 8 page magazine (8.5x11 page size on 11x17 folded paper). This is just a test run for a larger publication. I am experimenting with this publication as a single page document because my printer requires submit single pages to print a magazine. The master pages have worked well for most things, but trying to create headers that correctly format left/right pages has been a real challenge. In the attached document, you can see I have created a header for right-side pages with the section title on the top right and article title on the top left. I then created the identical header in reverse for the left-side pages. When I apply the right side master to the right-side page, it works just fine and I can edit the placeholder text. Same with the left-side page. But I occasionally need to rearrange pages, so what started as a left-sided page may end up as a right-sided page. In that case, you will notice that applying the new master (with migrate content checked) changes the text alignment. The text itself remains, but the alignment changes. The top left corner now is right-aligned, and the top right corner is now left-aligned. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Maybe I haven't designed the headers properly, but I've tried a number of different ways to no avail. And in case you want to know why I haven't used it as a facing pages publication, when I move pages around in that setup it is a nightmare to manage and reformat. I started out that way using a facing pages master and that worked (since both the left and right are specified in the spread) but moving a single page around really messes things up. I am hopeful someone can point me in the right direction or offer any advice on how to properly configure a magazine of any length for left/right headers/footers...AND with the ability to rearrange any page or spread in the document without wrecking the whole thing. Thanks!! APub - Master Example Magazine L-R.pdf
  15. Have been used to destructive cropping in PS for so many years, I would really appreciate the option. Best suggestion in this thread has been to add it as a context toolbar button. On/Off. Or make it possible to add Rasterize and Time to the toolbar.
  16. Similar situation here. Not every time, but after making edits to an existing file, selecting File-Save results in the program simply vanishing! But starting up again, it actually saved the edits.
  17. Unless I am missing something, it seems the only way to create a new table is to draw one. The problem is, as the table gets larger, new rows and columns are added. But if I want a table that is physically larger but with not so many rows and tables, I have to go back and delete the unwanted ones after creating the table. For example, if I need a new table that is, say, 3 columns and 6 rows, but I want the table to be 7.5 inches wide, I am not able to draw it as desired. Instead, as I increase the drawing width to 7.5 inches, it creates 6 columns automatically. One alternative is the way it's done in MS Word: you have a choice of drawing a table or creating one via a pop-up with the desired number of rows and columns. However it fits best into the APu interface, please add this feature. Thanks!
  18. Sorry to compare, but the "Linked Images" tab in InDesign is much easier to deal with than going through the menus to Document-Resource Manager when trying to update/embed/replace resources. It would also be good to have embed, replace or update in the properties menu of graphic objects. And the ID Linked Images tab makes it easy to spot any changes to linked images with a warning icon. That would be nice, too.
  19. The studios are nicely designed, but for some reason there is no studio for text wrap - just the button on the toolbar. Also, when selecting an object to be wrapped, it would be good to be able to right-click and select Wrap from a properties menu. It is a bit awkward for workflow to go the the toolbar each time.
  20. Is it possible to clear a style from an object once it has been applied? For example, once a photo is placed, if I apply a style, it cannot be removed unless all the attributes are manually removed or another style is applied.
