I do not claim to be an expert on all things Mac but I tend to stay away from third party 'cleaner' utility apps because they have more than once in the past deleted or damaging something they should not have that ended up requiring a reinstall of the OS to fix. This may have been because the utility had not been updated for the current Mac OS version, some pre-existing file system corruption issue, a conflict or incompatibility with another 3rd party add-on, a user error of some sort, or a combination of several of these things. Regardless, for my own use I consider these apps to be too risky & rarely if ever necessary or effective. But as always, YMMV.

It seems odd that in the second screenshot the Dock popup shows AD is not responding but in the third one taken ~1 minute later the Force Quit Applications window does not.

jasbury reacted to Beck in Export Affinity Designer as layers - PSD, Photoshop, Layers
    Hi,
I have looked through many forums although can't find the answer to my issue!
I need to export my Affinity Designer files so my suppliers can access all layers of artwork. They ask for PSD although when i export as PSD they say the file is exported as a "flat" image with no layers. When i open the PSD file on my computer, layers show perfectly? Is this a glitch? Or am I exporting it wrong?
When i Export as PDF, and leave "Don't export layers hidden by Export persona" unchecked - does the PDF export as layers? So if my supplier opens in photoshop or other program they can access them?
I need a way to just supply my artwork to my supplier in layers. Please help!

    Thanks!
    Beck

    Hi Beck,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
Do you mind uploading the original .afdesign file using this link so I can check what's going on? Notice that not all PSD features are supported - for example we don't yet export text objects as editable text layers to PSD (text layers are rasterised on export). Most of common objects should export fine and kept as independent objects/layers. Thanks.

One of the things i used in illustrator was the live trace tool and i know there has been discussion about when/if it will be added to designer. i was determined to find a way to make it work and i have found something that works for me and i like the look much better. i am a illustrator/pattern designer and use my paintings in my pattern design.
afphoto is SO GOOD at selection i used it's various options to select the areas and color them by creating a fill layer and dragging that underneath the selection layer. i really love that it still maintains the painterly look. i have been playing with the same thing coloring photos. i am attaching my files. the look may not be everyone's cup of tea but i am thrilled and will continue to play with this more. just wanted to share my 'discovery'
the flower on the left is colored from the painting to the right of it and the hydrangea is a photo i colored by selecting various colors and the alpha range.
    thanks for letting me share.

We've had a query about what is viewed as 'acceptable' content, and what our stance on it is.

This topic is one which is typically fairly volatile because everyone is so different and what is acceptable for one person, can be shocking or inflammatory to another. We don't want everyone to feel cautious about what they click, just in case they are faced with something they'd rather not see, but we also don't want to discourage people from sharing the amazing work they've been creating, so... We think the simplest, clearest thing to do is:

If you think your image could in any way be described as controversial...

    - Start a new topic with an appropriate title
    - Upload your image to a sharing site (Flickr, Behance, Instagram, etc) - you can even use the 'Share' link in the app's File menu
    - Write a proper description of your work in the body of your post and add a text link to the image you have shared

Now, if people think they'd be offended, they just don't have to click the link and they won't see it at all.

    Thanks,
    Matt

jasbury reacted to v_kyr in Pattern Design in AD - general question
Well there are some tutorials which show how to deal with that and making Symbol based patterns (vector) with AD, for example:
    Affinity Designer Mustervorlage [EN]
Affinity Designer - WYSIWYG Wiederholungsmuster [English UI]
    Affinity Designer Repeating Pattern Tutorial
The other option is to use Styles as fills for then, which are instead bitmap image based fillings and are even easier to build up.
So it depends on if you want to keep it all vector or instead bitmap based for your fills then, if all is vector things do scale up of course in a more neatless manner.

This is so good! Proof that it doesn't have to be fancy to be amazing. Brilliant work, and yes, AP and AD both have put PS off the radar for me, don't need it anymore!

jasbury reacted to toltec in removing background - affinity photo
Is that the original at its highest resolution? It seems to be very low resolution.
For this white background one, I just used the selection tool to select the white and manipulated the edges with a mixture of growing and feathering..The first image I selected the black and then refined the edges. That won't work on the second (white background) image because the resolution is too low.
What you do always depends on the original file, some techniques work on low resolution, some on high and so forth.
In fact, sometimes it is better to use a vector path but not with this.

Basically, a three step process that took 2 or 3 minutes. Nice image BTW.
