  1. Sorry to burst the bubble of some commentators here who disparage Canva for not being “professional”, but a lot of design work does not need to be “professional”. The reality of most “content” today is Instagram, YouTube thumbnails, TikTok, and swiping in less than half a second. In the past I have disparaged Pantone colour matching in these forums. Although it is “nice to have”, it is vastly overrated if I am looking at digital output. The designer has no idea about the capabilities of the display or the lighting in which their work will be viewed. They may sit there in their colour-neutral room and monochrome GUI designing stuff with a latte on their desk, and there I am under fluorescent lights and windows with a green tint looking at their output. From an end-user POV, nobody cares that a designer has picked a Pantone colour. They see “dark blue” when they see a dark blue Pantone colour. It is the same principle with Canva. Look at some of the things on its homepage: YouTube thumbnails, YouTube banners, Facebook Cover, etc. The sort of things that are looked at on a mobile phone in 100% unknown lighting conditions. Nobody needs Photoshop to design a YouTube thumbnail, but some people would insist that it should be done “professionally”. If there are usable templates, why not use them? Obviously Canva can produce things which look “professional enough”, hence people use it. It is easy to belittle what other people use, and say it is not professional. I have a GH4 camera. In my hands it produces usually very acceptable output. Sometimes it is outstanding. In the right hands it produces stunning output. But some people would say “but it’s not full frame”, and that would be the sole basis of their argument about it not being a “professional” camera.
  2. I did above. That was the output of the command. I'm not going to share the file as it has limited circulation.
  3. They don't. They are pattern matchers, which may or may not be plain text. Meanwhile they work for me. (507) % grep -i dormitory V8-Student-Guide\ v2\ 20230415-02.afpub Binary file V8-Student-Guide v2 20230415-02.afpub matches Misspellings and non-existent words do not return the same result. (508) % grep -i farrell V8-Student-Guide\ v2\ 20230415-02.afpub
  4. Where are the afpub files stored. Let's imagine a simple case, they are stored in your Desktop directory. In the terminal type 'cd ~/Desktop'. Then try the grep commands.
  5. That's because grep/egrep is not looking in the same way. Try it with a test file.
  6. You may have some luck from the command line. Open a terminal and type: egrep 'where the blue mountains rise' *.afpub You may see the result 'Binary file <filename> matches. If that doesn't work above, try egrep mountains *.afpub. In both cases you need to be in the directory where the afpub files are located, or add the full path before the file names.
  7. I understand that. But in this particular case, would people stop visiting the Affinity forums if the pages loaded slower the first time they visited them? I doubt it.
  8. Another point: can anyone really tell me that for a text based forum like this, that variable fonts make the slightest bit of difference? Really? I'm not here to wonder at appearance of the text in a forum.
  9. But the subject of the post is disabling the export preview, so that is what the responses should be about. There is nothing to stop Bob opening a new post venting their spleen about their dislike of V2 GUI in general.
  10. Even that 4% is very debatable. Linux on the desktop is in fairly widespread use by developers, but not by all. For those developers building for iOS, for example, Linux is of no use at all.
  11. None of which addresses the request at the beginning of this post.
  12. That is not what was being asked for by the originator of this thread. Perhaps they, specifically they, are not interested in Windows of APub for example. I don't know. It is you who is making the generalisation that many posts apply not to just one app or platform. That is true, but it is not the whole truth. Perhaps Bob is uninterested in Windows at all. Or perhaps Bob only used APhoto, and problems in APub are of no interest to him.
  13. As mentioned, adding tags would not stop you reading any post. Would you really ignore all posts that have "Windows 11" as a tag, if you only use a Mac?
  14. Yes. Just as I ignore the dates. If tags annoy you that much, why don't you round up a posse and run ALL the tags out of town?
  15. So... you can keep reading all the posts. But for those who wish to ignore certain platforms or apps, they would be useful.
  16. It was meant as an example. I suggest you go back and read the original item on this post. I'll quote a little bit here: There is no way to filter topics for a certain product/platform. How hard is it to accept that putting a couple of tags on a post at the start for those two things would not help? And, as mentioned, you can ignore them if you wish.
  17. If you read the context of the problems with corrupt files, you will see that I gave that as an example. It was clearly not meant for every post.
  18. That's fine. They can read every post for every platform for every app. Nothing I have suggested would stop them from doing so. Indeed, adding a couple of tags would give them even more words to read.
  19. It saves two updates and time even if there is no solution: 1. Are you using cloud storage for this file? 2. Yes I am, or no I'm not.
  20. You've put two conditions before that, so I don't know what you are referring to. I don't use Windows, so I barely look at problems running on Windows (not problems with the apps themselves). I haven't suggested an endless list of tags. I suggested two common ones: OS/version and App, because those are always applicable. There are some people who have one app only. If they see problems with APub and they have only AD, then it is probably not a post for them.
  21. But it does have a typical response along the lines of "do not use cloud storage because that is known to be problematic", does it not? If you know that information up front, you don't need to ask it = a little more efficient.
  22. The solution could/would be completely different. I gave you your own example. It's all about Apple. Nothing to do with Windows. The information is not remotely of use to a Windows user, just as how a Windows app installs is irrelevant to Mac users for example. Adding a couple of tags does not prevent anyone wishing to participate.
