4personnen reacted to R C-R in How in the world do i continue the previously made node and path?
@firstdefence, The 'add new curve' mode must already have been enabled in the OP's screenshot -- otherwise I don't think the badge on the Pen Tool pointer would be that asterisk-in-a-circle symbol. More to the point, that mode does not add to the original curve. Instead, it starts a new, unconnected one in the same layer. When the asterisk-in-a-circle symbol appears, from what I can tell it just means the next curve will start with a node on top of the one the pointer is hovering over.
You can check this by changing to the Node Tool & clicking on that node & dragging it.
AFAIK, to continue to add nodes to an existing open curve works the same way it always has: first select one of its end nodes with the Node Tool, & then use the Pen Tool to set the next node. Using the keyboard shortcut to temporarily toggle the Pen Tool to the Node Tool (CMD on Macs, probably CTRL on Windows) makes this fairly quick & easy.

    @gdenby

Thanks for the tip about the "lasso" tool. I saw that in the overview of the new version on Affinity website and been looking for how to achieve it everywhere (I don't think it's in the help files but I may be wrong)

4personnen reacted to gdenby in [designer 1.7.0] how node points selection work?
A few other things. The 1.7 version allows irregular "lasso" selection while holding down the option/alt key. For small adjustments, I usually use the arrow keys to nudge the point(s). If you want precise positioning, ince the points are selected, use the transform panel, and type in the exact value. Typically, I position the transform control point at the center.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, Jonas.
Yes, there is. There’s a Preferences setting, labelled ‘Move Tool Aspect Constrain’ when the UI language is set to English. The default is for objects with a natural aspect ratio to maintain it without the need to use the Shift key modifier, but you can choose instead to maintain the aspect ratio by default for all objects or for none.

    Hi Haymaker25,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums
This was already requested quite a few times. There's plans to implement it in a future version, but no eta. It may still take a some time since the dev teams are currently focused in stabilising the latest Photo and Designer updates (macOS, Windows and iOS) and preparing the launch of the upcoming Affinity Publisher (macOS and Windows).

Is it possible to select multiple lines or objects in Affinity Designer by color or stroke thickness? Like in Adobe Illustrator you can select all lines by a color fill or stroke thickness.  This is very important for me to have this function to be able to select colors on my architectural line drawings and quickly change the thicknesses of a color group ive previously made a specific color.
    Thank you!

    Hi!
Same here, I had the latest Beta installed, then I pre-ordered AP and since I got the error message attached, AP won't start, and re-directs me automatically to the bugs reports on the forum
Not a massive hindrance as I had postponed my projects following the anouncement of the release, but I can understand it's a bit disapointing.

PS: Edited: I didn't have the latest version (I thought I had, it felt a bit like downloading a version every other day lately  )

Hello, and sorry if the question have been asked before, but I would like to know if there is a function that would select automatically the "similar objects" according to stroke colour, fill colour, and other parameters.
I used this function before in illustrator (Unfortunately, I no longer have it to check) and it was very useful, particularly when you have tones of layers.
One of the top reason I may use it is when I am trying to select die-cuts marks on small objects (think small stickers scattered on a big sheet of paper and needed to be cut with let's a say a plotter)
We use the same artwork to print the packaging and in that case, I need to get rid of the die-cut marks (they are all with the same stroke colour). The way I was doing in Illustrator was to select one die cut and "auto-select" all the others based on the reference selected stroke colour.

If it doesn't exist yet, I'd raise my voice for a feature request

    Hello!
So I have created some brushes for a project of mine, and decided that I could as well share them with the community. They are made from actual paint strokes, and some are black with some textured bits (bits of white) and some are plain grey, meaning that they will take the colour (I hope it makes sense! :) ) See sample sheet below.

I am a bit new to this, so any feedback appreciated. If I can improve the user experience, I will....

@v_kyr, I thank you for an up-to-date summary of online tutoring. I retired twelve years ago, but the latter part of my career involved much on-line tutoring. I have to admit that the online tutoring world has moved on considerably since my day. Personally, I prefer a static web-page tutorial to a video-based one. I could do interactive, but not on these forums.

4personnen reacted to Mabel in Editing Embedded Files
Hi, I'm still learning about Embedded documents. But I was wondering, about having a copy of the embedded object and unlinking it and so having two copies independent of each other?
So I'm making a mockup for a mobile app. I have icons as svg files which I brought in as embedded object. Then I used these to make a Light theme UI for the app. Now I copied the layout for a dark theme UI, the same images, text and these svg icons. However if I edit the colour of an icon (say on the Dark theme UI) it will change colours on both screen mockups (i.e. Light and Dark UI).

Is there a way of unlinking them? So that I have two icons that look the same but I'm able to change the colours without one affecting the other?

4personnen got a reaction from jer in Affinity Publisher 2019 Diary template
    Hello,

I confess being a total noob using a desktop publishing software, despite having downloaded Publisher Beta version for ages now :). I just didn't find the time to properly do something with it until now.
Topical I guess, I made a template for a 2019 diary (1 week per page)
With a master page, and text styles.
I purposely didn't add any fancy stuff in it, but I guess not inputting 365+ days by hand will at least be helpful. Decorate it your own way
Let me know if you see any mistakes, things that don't look professional, things that should have been done differently.
    I'm always keen to learn!

FWIW, It might be better to change the "forum" tag to something less generic like "affinity forum tutorials" because some people use Google, Bing, or similar search engines to find content, sometimes with a "site: forum.affinity.serif.com" modifier to restrict the results to this site. That is because this site's built-in search engine is fairly dumb compared to their 'smart' search algorithms, which makes it more likely your topic will place near the top of those search results.

It may seem at least a little less bizarre if you consider that there is quite a lot that applies to all the Affinity desktop apps. For some features, the only difference between the Windows & Mac versions are the keyboard shortcuts. All the apps offer the same Shapes & Pen tools; the same Transform, History, Snapshot, & a few other Studio panels; many of the same UI customization options; & so on.
Also, because Photo & Designer share a common native file format & documents created in either app can be edited in the other one without conversion, it is possible to open an afphoto file created in Photo in Designer & edit it, including editing live filters that can't be created in Designer. It even preserves the history if the "Save History With Document" feature is enabled. You can try this for yourself with this very simple Ripple.afphoto file -- you should have no problems opening it with Designer.
So this pretty much means that if all the forums were separate & users just followed or contributed to one or a few of them, they would be missing out on a lot of useful info.

4personnen reacted to kenmcd in Adobe Fonts -- space after apostrophes
All 7 of these old Adobe fonts have proportionally spaced Latin characters.
But there is something odd with the character widths for apostrophe and right curly quote.
I assume the apostrophe is being automatically replaced with the right quote.
In Adobe Myungjo Std for example ...
    The apostrophe width is 250.
The right quote width is 1,000 with a right side bearing of 775.
So it is going to have a big gap on the right.
This is probably what you are seeing.
In Source Sans Pro the apostrophe and right curly quote both have a width of 250.
This is what you would expect to see.
I looked at a couple of the other fonts and they appear to be the same.
And there are some other characters with odd wide widths such as accent acute, etc.
There may be a valid reason for this in these primarily CJK fonts.
    I do not know.
Or it could just be a way of preventing use of these free fonts for Latin text.
I have seen some things in other Adobe fonts which appear to be sabotage.

This is a far from lame question. There is no easy way at the moment.
I think I will help sort this out when we launch Affinity Publisher, either by insisting on tagging with the application or by having 3 sub forums in tutorials. The difficulty with forced tagging is that when that option is turned on for a forum, no other tags can be added than the ones you have to choose between. I like the free tagging we have at the moment. I will see what can be done. Thanks for the query.

    Thanks @Wosven
I routinely use ant-renamer so that's definitely an option. However I found that having all the group names in a word doc, and copy pasting each of them x50 and also having both files types exporting at the same time was less time consuming than exporting in two steps and renaming later from a .txt (take name from list in ant-renamer). I still have to do the showing/hiding of each group + exporting slice one by one by hand anyway, so it will never be automated I guess. Plus it doesn't solve the files overwriting each others in the same folder. Before the discovery of adding the suffix directly on the slice name input box, I had to rename after each export to avoid that. But thanks for the suggestion
