I solved the problem. I export to PDF/X1a:2003 in Affinity and open, convert and export to PDF/X1a:2001 with the free Scribus 1.5.8.
    Corel exports to PDF/X1a:2001
    Adobe exports to PDF/X1a:2001
    Xara Designer exports to PDF/X1a:2001
    Scribus exports to PDF/X1a:2001...
    Only Affinity can't!
I figured it wouldn't be difficult for the Affinity team to implement the PDF/X1a:2001 format. But since they can't, we will continue to use other software to finish what was started in Affinity, unfortunately.
I recognize that print shops are lagging behind with new technologies. But, do what? We have to dance to the music. If print shops require PDF/X1a:2001, we will deliver PDF/X1a:2001 to them. And everyone lives a "happy ever after"!

Which may mean that a :2003 file would work in a workflow based on :2001. But if the print shop specifically looks for :2001 they might reject it out of hand, even though it would work if they simply tried to use it.

I have read quite a few posts where people have said that the print shops they can use will only accept PDF/X1a-2001 (sometimes only that format, sometimes that’s the newest format) but I can’t remember seeing any explanation for that.
I can understand that, in some countries, the availability of print machinery could limit print shops to using certain older/affordable levels of technology which can only handle certain PDF formats – e.g. the machines can’t handle anything newer than PDF/X1a-2001 so the print shop can’t handle anything newer. (Some countries have embargoes on technology from outside sources and newer machines are simply not available in some cases.)
I can also imagine a situation where the print shop workers, in some countries, are taught by a small number of teachers who only teach printing using certain PDF types because that’s what they are comfortable doing – e.g. the teachers only know how to use certain types of PDF, and so that’s all they teach, and so that’s all their students learn, and so that’s all that can be printed.
In either of these cases, if either (or both) of these cases apply, however, I don’t think it’s Serif’s responsibility to ‘fix’ anything:
If the country has limited access to technology then that’s not something that Serif has to ‘fix’; If a business can’t afford/access different/better equipment then that’s not something that Serif has to ‘fix’; If the country has limited print shop staff knowledge then that’s not something that Serif has to ‘fix’; If the print shop staff can’t/won’t learn to use other technologies then that’s not something that Serif has to ‘fix’. Maybe I’m not seeing the ‘whole picture’ (and I’m probably not), but if people can’t print because their local print shops can’t handle modern PDF formats then that’s not Serif’s fault and it’s not something that Serif has to deal with. It’s not an ideal situation for everyone but it’s the situation that exists.
I’ve read that the Serif staff have said that they would like to support PDF/X1a-2001 but it’s simply not practical for them to do so. They would like to help but they can’t, for various technical/cost/whatever reasons.
The above was not meant to be a ‘rant’ (even if it may sound like one).

This has been discussed many times, as you will see if you do a simple forum search for Android.

Exactly, this is the reason I left using Windows as my primary Operating System for personal, my business use, and at work with my workstation. With Windows you don't own it anymore. Each edition pushes required online accounts more and more. They are actively adding and testing new ad locations on the Operating System. It's likely going to go to a subscription service at some point. I got tired of having to run debloaters to remove 2gbs of telemetry and ads used by ram and a variable amount on CPU usage. I work in IT as a day job and the amount of hours we spend removing all the bloat from our Windows Workstations creating custom images is staggering. Some of those return even if removed when you update the OS. It is an undisputed fact that Windows has become malware. It's no longer an opinion, its fact.

If Serif someday decides to support Linux I'd be overjoyed, If they don't support it... oh well, that's their call. I don't believe it is going to happen anytime soon either. I do believe you have correctly identified why there is so much toxic behavior about Serif supporting other operating systems on these forums. Users on the supported systems will shout down any suggestion for another platform to support other operating systems because they believe it will "waste money and support on it" and perceive it as a threat to Serif's resources.

I'm honestly not too concerned about it anymore. Open Source software is maturing especially Blender, Inkscape 1.2, Krita, etc. is proof of that. Also, Windows software through wine is getting better every week and while I will not use them for a few reasons, the Linux community figured out how to use Photoshop & Illustrator Adobe CC products on Linux awhile ago, so it's already here.

Serif Affinity can choose to support or not to support the platform. Regardless of what is said here. Right now they have no plans to support it. I paid for all three on Windows. If was an option on Android or Linux I'd likely pay for it all again.
Wine communities may some day bring support to Linux. Affinity Photo is #2 on WineHQ as their most request app page.
You can swap back and forth on Wayland and X11 as a menu option once it's enabled from the login menu on most distros.
Flatpaks and Snaps ship with their dependancies included. Distro doesn't really matter. Use Whatever tickles your fancy. I like Pop!_OS for desktops because it is the easiest out of the box setup and has fantastic Nvidia support out of the box.
Alternatives for Linux for Affinity Photo and Designer.
    1) Inkscape - latest update version 1.2 has made it my primary vector program even on my windows desktop. Check and see if it meets your needs. In my opinion Inkscape is equal to Designer with some small pros and cons on both sets of software. Designer lacks trace, Inkscape has work arounds CYMK support.
    2) Krita - was a fork of GIMP. Primarily painting app. With surprisingly decent photo editing tools likely left over from GIMP. Nondestructive and supports CYMK. Likely the best option with a good UI/UX experience.
    3) GIMP - has some great photo editing capabilities hampered with crap tier UI/UX experience. No nondestructive editing or CYMK support.

If you're worried about things not working in Wayland, then just use Xorg. It's still a few years until Wayland becomes the exclusive standard, and any app that ends up not working on it probably won't have been updated for years by that point anyway.

The statement was "WebP is better than both PNG and JPEG", with no qualification. It may be better for some purposes, but not for others. For many uses, such as printed books and photo reproduction, quality is more important than file size. I do think that webP should be supported in the Affinity apps, but, IMHO it cannot replace JPG and PNG for all uses and therefore is not "better" per se.

Pixeluvo is on Steam and it's an excellent, modern photo editor (a Photoshop Elements equivalent) for Windows and Linux.
    Links:

The 30 day trial version is limited to saving files no larger than 800×600 pixels. It has an excellent, easy to navigate UI and Gimp could learn a lot from it.

Sadly – and that's the point – there is not a single alternative to Affinity Photo when it comes to Android apps. Especially if you're looking for a photo editor with desktop-like UI and with no subscription plan. Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom are only available by subscription, same applies to On1 Photo Raw, Snapseed has a rather smartphone-like UI, Pixlr E is not available for Android, Pixelmator neither etc.
I've been investing a LOT of time searching for some usable photo editor for my Samsung Tablet (S7+) and I had to resign. Now I somehow get along with using Samsungs built-in photo editor and/or Snapseed for simple image editing and using PhotoPea in the browser for more serious photo editing stuff (when it comes to make local adjustments and/or working with layers), but switching between different photo editors is not an ideal solution. So I wish Affinity would finally recognize they'd face no serious competition if they were bringing Affinity Photo to Android, but they don't seem to care a lot resp. prefer to stay with the "cool kids" (namely Apple)... What a shame!

I keep checking back on Affinity, since I'd love to be free of the Adobe ecosystem. I still haven't forgiven them for killing Macromedia Freehand.
As an information graphics designer, I would like to join the chorus in requesting a graphing tool for Designer. It still aggravates me that Adobe won't upgrade the tool, yet they keep charging me $60 a month for Illustrator (and the rest of the suite). I bought Affinity two years ago, and they haven't charged me any money since!
The Affinity products still lack a few things, and have some aggravating workflows, but that's a topic for a different forum. A graphing tool that outclasses Adobe (not a difficult concept, as Adobe's still hasn't changed in over 30 years) would be a most welcome addition.

Not mentioned above is the solution I came up with is working with Grasshopper. This is as visual scripting tool in Rhino3D. Rhino is, besides one of the greatest 3D nurbs modelling tools, also extremely handy for drawing 2D vectors and it imports and exports with 100% scale to illustrator. So I do all the drawing in Rhino and the coloring in Illustrator.
Grasshopper is able to connect to Excel sheets and process that data to any shapes you want and of course 3D shapes as well. For those who are interested you can follow several courses on Lynda.com or crawl youtube. On https://www.food4rhino.com/ you can find all kind of plugins for grasshopper. Me personnaly would very much like to see Affinity write such a scripting tool for graphic designers or a plugin into Rhino grasshopper.

As Patrick pointed out, you need tables to hold the data, so this is a feature which seems more likely to be added to Affinity Publisher than Affinity Designer.

We are more likely to see Android support before Linux support. And so far Serif isn't even interested in that. Most of us voted on WineHQ for support because that path at this point looks to be much more likely.

Snapseed reacted to MacBook in Hope to support changing installation and cache paths
When installing any of the three software for the first time, you can specify the installation path. However, even if the software is uninstalled, subsequent installations will only take place on the directory where it was installed (usually C:/). This seems to be a bug, for example, I installed the Affinity Photo software, then uninstalled the software, and when I installed the software again, the software button said "Update", which prevented me from changing the software installation directory by uninstalling and reinstalling the software. This issue occurs in both Windows 10 and 11.
In some cases, the AppData directory may also take up a relatively large amount of space, which may not be good news for users with smaller capacity hard drives.
It is hoped that the software can freely modify the directory during the installation/update process, and specify the storage path of the cache, plug-ins and content at the same time.

    Hi support & forum,
I use the cloud for collaborate work.
The problem with linked resource: On other machine, the path will not match and we have to relink each resource.

So currently I can't find a solution to use linked file in collaborate work, because the link is absolut!

Would be great to could set «path relative from current file».

Currently I can only link resources «absolute»:

The path is clickable but not changeable:

Would be great to change link-path to relative:
Maybe if this could change (path editable) of our own: with (os x) 2 dots and slash, for «from current file -> one directory down and then ...» -> go to (E.g.) directory «Media» and use the file «Image.png» within.

    Advantages:
    This would make it possible
to use the linked resource also on other machines. to simplify the use of new directory-structure.  to move old projects to other destinations (external drive/cloud/...). ...
Maybe there is such a solution, but I can't find it.
If anybody has a hint or work-around, I would love it ;o))

Otherwise Feature-Request: I'm sure, to use a relative path would help a lot of «professionals» to work more with an ease.

    Regards
    Martin

+1 for this feature. All of my music software does this. My video editing software. Pretty much everything. Affinity is fantastic, but why not get even better? Would love to have it default to the folder I originally saved it in and then choose a new folder later on if need be since I easily do 2-3 different projects at a time in Designer or Publisher and much more often save in project folders than I do in some new folder I navigate to.

Snapseed reacted to Customer Feedback in Relative path for resources (Feature Request)
This problem is mysteriously still a problem in Affinity. During our evaluation of Affinity, we worked with files where the .afdesign documents were in one folder, and various linked resources were in subfolders:
    /drawing.afdesign
    /JPG/pic.jpg
    /JPG/pic2.jpg
The original was created on a mac. The files were copied to a folder on a Windows machine, only drawing.afdesign was edited. This file was copied back to the original location on the mac.
With relative paths all would be well. In Affinity, unfortunately, absolute paths were now saved to the files' location from Windows, and we had to relink the resources on the mac.
This design flaw makes Affinity Publisher in particular completely unsuitable for professional use in a mixed environment - but it should be easy to fix. And it should be fixed at the earliest opportunity.
I should add that our observations suggest that the mac versions of Affinity store a relative path, while the Windows versions appear to store an absolute path to resources in the Affinity Publisher and Affinity Designer files.
