  1. I am having a hard time replicating a document i originally created in indesign. I basically created a template letter where the file name is also used as the subject in the letter. For this I wanted to use the fields option, but the problem is that when I use Filename as the field, it adds the extention as well, which is not what I want. When I use the title field, it will not change when I change the filename of the document, or when I duplicate the document to create a new one. So I really hope an option can be added to hide the extention for this use case. What I am not sure about is, if when I use the field "date created", if this would change if I create a new copy of the document to reflect the new copy, or if it would take the creation date of the original base file? I can not test it right now, but I will have to see how this would work. Thing is, I want it to be the date I create the document, but I don't want it change once I reopen the document on another date, if you understand what I mean.

  3. Lasso selection does not seem to work for me. I get the lasso, but it selects nothing...
  4. Thanks for your response, but I decided to just go with setting AD up anew. Most of the brushes and assets I had installed I had backed up somewhere, So I had to reinstall them, but as I wanted to get on with it and use the app, I just accepted this. It was not ideal, but thats what it is sometimes. As my older iMacs HD is filling up rather rapidly, I decided to get rid of the 10gb file and start anew. Everything now works as it should, as far as I can see.
  5. Do you have Hej Stylus installed by any chance? I had this problem for a long time. Then when I uninstalled this app, it was gone.
  6. Designer did not start without me changing the container file. All settings, brushes etc were lost in the transition...
  7. When I try to zip said file inside the library at the said path, it tries to zip a 10 gb file, not sure what I should do to change that? I had a lot of custom brushes, assets and styles installed, perhaps this inflates the file size. I was amazed my self as I had no idea...
  8. I had the exact same problem Designer. I did the trick you mentioned and that made it startup. Does this mean all customized settings are gone? If so, damn... Not quite the smooth roll out I had hoped for... edit: Oh damn, all custom settings, Interface, brushes etc... gone

  10. You are right. I was doing test with a personal file to check the differences in the settings. I cannot find any consistency in the color conversion, sometimes it is still RGB, sometimes DeviceCMYK, I never get it to become a profile like you see above. This has me completely confused...
  11. You are indeed correct, and so is your printer. There are problems which I did not notice at first. Though the ink manager shows no RGB data, the transparency blending data is still in RGB, not CMYK. Only when I convert it to x-1 as described above these transparency issues are resolved. However when checking the images these are in a generic CMYK profile, not the profile I chose... This is a pretty nasty problem in some situations I think and I hope this can be addressed!

That is strange, as I checked and compared the files created with various setting with the output preview and ink manager in Acrobat: the conversion with specified color profile does not contain any RGB data, whereas the other do. I am not an absolute prepress master, but to me this indicates the images are correctly converted. It would be interesting to see you file to be able to compare it.
  13. I think I found what causes this problem. When I output as PDF for Print and leave the color setting on "as document" and profile on "as document" the images are indeed RGB when I check these in Acrobat. When I set it to CMYK but leave the profile to "as document" the images are not converted even though they should be, which is a bug, I would say. But when I define both the color setting as CMYK but choose a specific profile from the list (it does not seem to matter which one) they are correctly converted. It is a small workaround, and they do need to fix this, but at least it works!
  14. I have been wondering about this for another reason: The App-Store apps are all sandboxed, the Serif store version is not bound to this (I believe?). The issue is with font auto activation: I have FontAgent Pro installed, and it works well for the Beta versions I have installed, but not for the app store versions. I wondered if this has something to do with it being sandboxed? Also could the non-app store version potentially be less limited in the ability to add plug-ins to the software?
  15. I have an issue with a font manager called FontAgent Pro. It has a font auto activator, which is very handy because I use many different fonts and don't want to have these activated all the time. I run into the issue where the auto-activation works very well for the Beta versions, but not for the app store release versions. How can this be? Is the way the app store version is sandboxed a limitation for this to work? If this is the case, is it possible to update to the non-app store version of Affinity Designer (sold in the Affinity Store) as I believe this does not have the sandboxing?
  16. I have been working with something similar, and instead of creating an artboard as a symbol, I created an asset out of it. I can just drag the artboard in, change the name and its ready to go. Is there any benefit to using symbols instead. As you said the guides are not treated as something that can be changed afterwards. If there is nothing that needs to change for everyone artboard, an asset seems simpler, no?
  17. I had some success in creating an asset out of an artboard. I set up the artboard up as I wanted, with margins, guides, grid etc. then created an asset out of this (make sure you have the artboard selected with the artboard tool). Set the view mode to "list" in the assets window, as the preview is invisible, but you can just drag it on the canvas and have an artboard exactly like the other one.
  18. I am not familiar with the old Serif software, but at least coming from an older version of indesign, I can say that the Beta of Publisher works really well. It is not perfect, and it may not have all the features (yet), but as a first version still in beta, it is really good. I think Publisher does a very good job on small to medium size print projects. Indesign still has the edge in more complex documents with the book option and incopy. But I think Publisher certainly fits for professional users not working in large publishing companies. For a freelancer like me I have been looking for an alternative to my old CS5 Adobe programs, as I don't want to get into the CC subscription. I seriously considered QuarkXpress and tested it, but it felt very odd and unfamiliar to work with, with a very dated interface. When the Publisher Beta started I almost directly felt at home, and managed to get work almost as quickly as in my familiar InDesign. This to me is the real test for the software, and I think Publisher is on a very good track.
  19. For plain B/W graphic, I can recommend the convertio.co convertor website. It can convert almost anything, also huge files, and does a pretty handy job. I tried many of the apps mentioned (except vector magic, which is really only for power users, way to expensive for casual use) and they are all rather meh. Super Vectorizer 2 is OK, but it seems to downgrade the input before creating a vector trace. So when I use my 1200 dpi huge B/W scans it creates a lower resolution graphic which it then traces. This is far from ideal. Intaglio Vectorize is better in this respect, but it produces very many nodes, especially on diagonal lines. Also both these programs have a flattened graphic as output (one curves layer) which is really annoying if you want to edit the graphic (f.i. with letterforms, alphabets, symbols). Convertio.co does a better job in this respect too. I am not sure about greyscale or color photos. as I never use vector tracing for this, as it produces quite awful results most of the time. A 3 color logo in a decent resolution did not do too badly in SV2, though there are some issues with the separation of colors, which require some postprocessing.
  20. You can use online file convertor Convertio.co. For B/W graphics it gives very decent results, and there is a very generous 250 mb limit for file size, much more than many other online services have. It is free, but has some limitations in the free version.
  21. Yes, I do set bleed at first, but as in the use case mac_heibu describes, the flexibility at export level would be useful. But what is most important to me, is that bleed is a part of the preset I create, so using the preset will always include bleed. Seems like a simple but useful thing to implement.
