  1. I won't go as far as you, but I preffered the previous one, especially on the Mac
  2. I think he gave a very elaborate answer why giving you the brushes for free is not going to help you much. If you have bought Affinity Designer or Photo, there are already a good array of brushes to get you started with whatever it is you want to make. If you don't yet know what you want the use the brushes for, try them all out, see what they do. Try to recreate works by others to see how they can be used. As a brush collector and sometimes brush creator I can understand the desire to try new tools all the time, but really if the structure, the idea and the hard work is not there, none of these brushes will help you archieve real growth.
  3. This is the Mac Beta forum, but the screenshot is from the iOS version. Is it the same in the Mac beta?
  4. I knew this issue was familiar! 😁 Still hope this can be fixed though! 🤞
  5. I am using High Sierra (10.13) so perhaps that could be a reason? I use a Intuos 5M Touch.
  6. I noticed in the latest beta that the pixel brush tool is broken again. It seems to read out the pressure from the Wacom Intuos in a wrong way, so light strokes are not registered, and with slightly more pressure a line suddenly appears with full pressure, without any transition. See the video to see the difference between the retail and the beta versions. I used a default pencil in both accounts and the Wacom settings are the same too. pencil_tool_problem1.mov
  7. I must have things messed up. I once saw a video on YT (have tried to find it, unsuccesfully) where a blending mode was shown doing the opposite of multiply. This would allow me to have one color, FI the blue on the top image, and mix it with a darker color I wanted to have, and the result of the blending was a lighter color. When I overlaid a blue shape with another shape in the lighter color and set it to multiply, the result would be the darker color. I hope this makes sense? I work a lot with overlapping color shapes in multiply mode for my illustration, so being able to define colors in this way would be useful.
  8. The new Divide blend mode does not work as it should in CMYK documents. It should do the exact opposite of multiply, which it does in RGB. In CMYK, the result is different. See the screenshots:
  9. Thank you. I hope this can be changed so it is less obtrusive. It should only be visible when rezising the brush in my Opinion. It makes no sense to have it there otherwise. It is annoying and distracting to have it pop-up everytime I finish a stroke or pan the canvas. EDIT: this is still there in the latest Beta. Should I make a thread there to bring it to the attention?
  10. I also noticed that the timelapse is not saved when the document is closed and reopened. It just takes the start of the new session as the start of the timelapse. Is this in some way connected to using the "save history with document" feature? I have this disabled as I don't use this in my work.
  11. I made this illustration based on a picture book from the 1960s with illustrations made by Doris Dumler. I tried to recreate it using Designer, usng the Shinznizzle styles for texture and patterns. It was interesting how a convincing mid-century look can be recreated.
  12. I really like the new timelapse feature, as its a nice way to share the process of an illustration. However, I did notice that when I create a timelapse of a CMYK document, it will have very different colors. I guess it only works for RGB? Will there be a setting to change this?
  13. Thank you very much. I was trying to create this vintage feel from old posters and matchboxes and stuff. Trying to create the small imperfections in vectors to make it believable is what I am trying to work on.
  14. To battle procrastination, I recreated this illustration in Affinity Designer, only in the Vector persona. I tried to archive a vintage and organic looking illustration using only vector tools and assets. Only raster addition are some grainy PNG texture overlays. I hope you enjoy it.
  15. One really annoying bug (feature??) in Affinity Designer on ipad is the constant return of the brush size indicator in the middle of the screen. Every time I pan or zoom or rotate the canvas while using the brush tools it is shown, which is just very distracting and annoying. The only time this needs to be visible is whan I change the brush size, otherwise there is no logical reason for it being there.
  16. If Serif would add true vector brushes, it would reduce the need to look for alternatives. As it stands, Affinity lacks some hard core vector options, like vector transformations, vector knife and eraser and true vector brushes. If your work requires the output of pure vector graphics, you might have to try another app. Vectorstyler is in beta right now and is a lot more like illustrator, so that might suit your needs better. However it is more difficult to work with than Affinity, and the UI is not as polished. One thing I do appreciate about the vector brushes in Affinity, is the direct visual feedback you get, which makes it a lot easier to judge the drawing. Also these raster based brushes are a lot better for more complex brush strokes, which makes other apps quite laggy.
  17. I created this illustration using only the vector tools in Affinity Designer. I created the shapes of the 3 colors with the pen tool first. Then I played around with the colors. To be able to create a less clean look I then created new layers/groups for each color using the previously created shapes to create a mask. Of course I could have used the raster tools now to create natural textures, but this time I wanted to try if I could create a good result using vector brushes to fill the shape. I must say I am quite pleased with the result, with the big benefit of being able to easily edit the strokes and the colors afterwards. Also, it is a pretty fast way to fill larger shapes with a non uniform fill. Now that we have the select same fill/stroke color it is even easier to make changes. I hope you like it!
  18. As it says in the description, I get consistent crashes when I try to delete categories of assets. I work on a non-metal iMac 2011 with High Sierra.
  19. I would love to see something like procreates quick shape feature, but for the vector pencil and perhaps vector brush. I think it would be very useful to quickly create circles, ellipses, triangles and other shapes while simply drawing them. Plus and because they are vectors, they can then be edited in every way you would want.
  20. I don't agree with this assesment. I think it is very nice vector program that is fast and intuitive, but lacks some of more advanced features Illustrator has. With regards to vector brushes you are correct, and I do wish Serif would add more options in this regard into v2. I have worked with with Illustrator for several years, but always found it very cumbersome to work with. It has great features, but I never likes the basic path manipulation. I like this a lot better in AD. I guess it all comes down to personal preference, but I personally think Designer is the most original program of the three, as it is something between Illustrator and Photoshop. I find it very nice to work on designs, create iterations on multiple artboards, look reference images in one big space. Though Illustrator could potentially do this, it is just too sluggish for me. Publisher is great to have because I want to have an alternative to indesign as I need it for my job, but it is more like a light and quick version of indesign in many regards. As for Photo: I never really use Photo that much for my job, as I do hardly any photo work, and for the more lightweight tasks, I just use Designer... PS I am happy about some discussion, but can we get back to the original topic, this whole thread is starting is gone quite off rails. Thanks.
