In my Version (1.7.0.57) i can drop .PSD files. Not just dropping, it also can edited directly in AP by double clicking it. There you can turn on and off PSD-Layers in AP... maybe the version of the .PSD files ire important?

+1 ...yes visible bleed are important, i miss it too... the option to set it in the "new document" is a good idea
